Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure

Beach Buggy Racing 2: Island Adventure

TLDR: This game in its current state is already an insane value and if you like any Kart racing games its worth it.

The game is structured a lot like Sonics Racing games. Get 1,2, or 3 stars based off coming in 3rd, 2nd, and first place. more stars, more levels, more unlocks.

10 hours in of just playing adventure mode and I already get the sense that this will take me personally probably at least 30 hours of casual game play to 100% adventure mode. That alone is crazy to me for the price of this game.

I played the first Beach Buggy Racing on my Playstation 4 and back then it was decent and absolutely worth the money.

Beach Buggy 2 is a much more polished game and it especially shines with couch co-op. We’ve had guests over and this one of our more popular couch game.

Pros:

  • Fun

  • Unique (doesn’t feel like a Mario Kart clone)

  • Great split-screen support

  • Upgrading and trying different types of cars is a blast

Cons:

  • Needs more maps. Reverse mode and other challenges increase replayability, but there are still too few maps.

Breaking Fast

Breaking Fast

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1621dP0IY1k

Plot/Overview: Breaking Fast is a fast-paced side-scrolling racing game about breakfast foods. There are power ups and attacks to help you win the mad dash to the finish line. The game is super easy to pick up and play, supports 4 player local multiplayer as well as 8 player online. There are 16 total breakfast foods for you to play as, all with different strengths/weaknesses and are unlocked as you earn expierence playing the game.

Music/Sound: The music and sound effects are very playful and simple. The songs fit the levels and the only thing I found wrong was the warning noise for an incoming special attack, it tends to drown out all the other sounds, and gets chaotic when playing with 7 other people.

Well this is the best Fast & Furious game on PC that i am aware of. Its better than showdown (which i missed on pc but played on PS3, oh dear) and miles ahead of Crossroads. Why? well it takes the premise of the Kids show and keeps it heart but knows we are all here for the cars, racing and gadgets.

The premise is the villain from season one has recruited teh villains from the other series and some old crew to help win the ultimate car. So the Spy Racers enterthe tournament to stop him. Simple plot. If you know the series you know it spans alot of areas so we get locations inspired from them. Sadly no Volcano or underwater levels but hey we do get Mexico, LA, etc…

Joe Danger 2: The Movie

Joe Danger 2: The Movie

Joe Danger 2 is the same basic concept as the previous game in the series. Instead of only riding a dirt bike, now you can ride a quad, a snowmobile, a jet pack, and more. The obstacles are very similar where you have to maneuver through each level avoiding bear traps, spikes, and other deadly obstacles while also trying to accomplish your level goals such as beating a time, doing tricks 100% of the level, or hitting specific targets.

The game starts off real easy and progressively gets harder. The game is an absolute blast and should be played by all. This is what Excite Bike should have been and the developers have truly attained an astonishing level of fun with this game and the entire series.

Fun game, but takes a while to get used to. Its a runner-style game, but with much more action per second, and some variety of levels and actions performed (including, but not limited to: riding bikes, cars, jetpack, unicycle, fighting bosses, surviving bosses, time attack levels ect). Controls are hard at first (jump, duck, fly down - all on one button, Space, quite unusual), may work better with a controller (I have one, but have a hard time using it, I’m a keyboard person).

Most of the game (about 80% of all levels) are quite doable and fun. Last few levels (Director’s cut) are a nightmare. Timing required is insanely precise, and controls don’t always work the way they’re supposed to (or so it seems). Retrying doesn’t take much time, which is good.

Marble Trap

Marble Trap

Marble trap is fine, it plays fine, it looks fine, and the music is fine. The game is short and can be beaten in more or less an hour. The game does include steam achievements but they are all for beating a level, and by the end you will have all of the achievements unlocked. It would have been nice to have some more achievements based on for example how fast you beat a level, or how little you die in the later levels, etc. Marble Trap does However has a leaderboard so if you are into that stuff, this game might just be for you.

Wow. I’m actually impressed with this game. You only use the arrow keys to play, but it doesn’t detract from how involved you feel while playing. I especially loved how very user friendly the controls were - very precise and on the money when it comes to where you want the ball to go. It’s also pretty fun to be careening around corners and speeding past obstacles at just the right time, slowing down only when strategically needed.

My only nitpick is the level-select menu, which was needlessly complicated by the poor placing of the ‘next page’ button - resulting at times in my selecting everything except for the ‘next page’ button. However, I liked the game despite this flaw. Largely, a very lively and well-made game. In fact, I enjoyed it so much, I even bought a second copy for a friend! :D

oOo: Ascension

oOo: Ascension

A very fun yet very difficult little time trial obstacle course game, controls are very responsive (so long as your responsiveness setting is at 10, 1 “smooths” out jerkiness), though they are not rebindable (not that the control scheme is bad, it’s actually good), and there is no long respawn delay or need to manually respawn after dying (which you’ll be doing a lot in this game), which makes it very much based on your skill and patience with a joystick.

Each sector has its own central gimmick and visual scheme.

Extremely fun game! This is my kind of indie gem!

It’s difficult, addicting, and will drive you to your max sometimes. In the harder levels you’ll feel hopeless due to how much strategy you need to figure out, or what you’ll need to pull off; it can be that challenging. I played this over the course of three days and it is some of the most fun I’ve had in a while. Try this out, it’s nothing but a good time.

The creativity of the levels is astounding, they can make some of these levels on a small little sphere feel really long somehow, up to over a minute for some of them (it will take you more than a minute to complete most levels though, trust me lol)

REVIEW

Skydrift is a hidden-gem of an combat-racer game involving what feel like go-kart versions of airplanes. It reminds me of Diddy Kong Racing from back in the day, (which was like Mario Kart but with planes). The game is a lot of fun, especially in multiplayer. If you’re looking for some simple-pleasure arcade action, you probably want to check this out.

Overall Gameplay Thoughts

SkyDrift is a great looking, fast action, arcade racing game. It’s chaotic, intense and skillful. Single player offers plenty of content and planes to choose from. It offers beautiful vistas of places to fly through and the world feels very organic and alive. It reminds me of Mario Kart mixed with Diddy Kong Racing. The three different modes of play, Power, Speed and Survival, keep it interesting if you want to change it up. Power is where you have the ability to use powerups. Speed takes powerups out and survival is about making it the longest. There’s a good amount of powerups, all sorts of different planes to choose from and a decent amount of racing tracks to chew on. The various different types of planes vary from flighty and twitchy, to heavy and slow but still remain balanced enough for engaging races everytime. The AI gets lots of help with rubberbanding and teleporting but it’s still possible to beat it. It’s just really aggravating. The game is definitely best played against others though. There’s a good amount of variety for such a small budgeted game.

Synth Drift

Synth Drift

This game was about worth what I paid for it: 59 cents on sale. It’s structured like any traditional speedgame, but bears some incredible flaws. Not being able to bind reset to a keybind is annoying, not being able to view replays is infuriating when trying to compete for leaderboard positions, not being able to buffer more than one input when starting a level is asinine, and the general gameplay loop becomes stale very quickly. One of this game’s three whole unique obstacles is a spinning saw with four spokes, of which will keep spinning before the level starts. This breaks the ideal deterministic principle I enjoy from other speedgames: by choosing when to start you can effectively change the level at your whim. Another detriment to the game is that the level design is uninspired and boring. Multiple levels in the game are repeats of previous levels with slightly more obstacles added, which becomes repetitive quite quickly, and even many of the unique levels (especially later on) were just a slog. If you’ve got an hour or two to kill and you enjoy grinding speedgames, give it a whirl if you so choose, but otherwise, trust that you’re not missing out on much by not playing.

Gotcha Racing 2nd

Gotcha Racing 2nd

I’ve expect a Good TDA Racer. And Gotcha Racing 2nd is one of them. But mixing in Gachapon elements? Might be bad. but this isn’t. Spending gold on gachapons rather than IRL Cash great let alone NO MICRO-TRANSACTION. Game play is how I expected (Even w/o Online MP). Race to win. Speedrun any tracks. And random Mini Games of 2. The key is: Getting the Best Parts and beef’em up to make it confident on Time Trials and show who the fastest. The Multiplayer is limited to Offline of 4 players. and not Online of 12 to 24 players. At least there’s Remote Play and Share Play support. Music-wise is good overall. The soundtrack seems underrated even for ASW standard. SFX-wise is the game hit the rough spot as if the sound mixing is poor. some glitches out, some goes in and out, some are loud, and some are quiet. Overall. The game is underrated, but good. despite my hate for RNG element. I go ahead and recommend this game to Top-Down Arcade Racing Veterans and Arcade Racing Fan out there.

Grade = D. Worth a buy, if you wanted to enjoy racing grinding, split-screen multiplayer. But if you’re looking for a good graphic effect, pretty car, don’t buy it.
