Grunt1914

Grunt1914

If you grew up playing Medal of Honor and other similar games on Play Station 1, this game will certainly take you right back to those golden days.

It is still in early stages so a few glitches and future changes are to be expected. Over all the game is fun, the shooting is done well although here and there, there are some of the terrain issues interfering with the shooting. But I’m sure that it will get sorted out in future patches.

The movement is fun, kind off like a mixture between most other major FPS games like the older CoD’s and MoH’s, and games like the original Quake games and similar other games. Again, a few minor terrain interferences and some of the enemy movements and animations can be improved, but nothing major and of course I’m sure they will be sorted out as future patches comes out.

I stopped playing FPS games around the time Battlefield 4 became really big. It got too intense! The maps got too big and there were too many players in every match. You can’t spawn without being F*%#ed by a tank or chopper… I missed the simpler times of fast “Arena” based FPS games like the older call of duty’s. That’s exactly what GRUNT1914 is! The maps are small but big enough to snipe in and although some of them are still a bit buggy, they feel fast and smooth. The guns seems to be accurately modeled after real guns from this era, however the sounds of some of the guns can still improve!

Ur Game: The Game of Ancient Gods

Ur Game: The Game of Ancient Gods

Great game! It’s an earlier version of backgammon, dating back 4500 years, when it was known in most parts of the world.

There is this hilarious video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZskjLq040I of the curator who actually translated the rules from an ancient clay tablet playing this.

The AI is not bad and you can play it against steam-friends, though sadly there is no public matchmaking. Extra points for the Horus(?)-like avatars.

Still getting updated with things like daily challenges.

Addictive little game, especially for times like these. Would you like to play a board game with your friend, but you can’t due to corona? Try this game, it’s fun, and I can say it’s definitely one of those games, in which you and your friend would be like “rematch?” after each game :)

Pros:

  • easy to play, hard to master (due to combination of luck and tactic/strategy)

  • low price

  • multiplayer

  • bots (various difficulty, so you can practice your tactic and skill to beat your friend next time ;) )

SAMURAI SHODOWN NEOGEO COLLECTION

SAMURAI SHODOWN NEOGEO COLLECTION

As someone who plays Samurai Shodown offline for the characters' stories, I think I can recommend this to those looking to play the NeoGeo installments. The museum has interviews with devs, tons of old Samurai Shodown artwork and pictures of old promotional material, including artwork and promotional material of the Capcom & SNK crossover games that feature SamSho characters. HD Scaling makes the characters look smoother when the games zoom out.

It’s a shame Samurai Shodown V here doesn’t include its story mode’s official English translation but it’s still a nice collection if you’re looking to play the NeoGeo Samurai Shodown games on PC.

This is a collection of all of the mainline games that were released on the Neo-Geo. I have plenty of good memories with these series of games, especially the first game. This collection doesn’t have every single title in the series, such as Samurai Shodown VI. Because of that, this collection comes off more as a tribute to the Neo-Geo as equally as Samurai Shodown.

Where this collection truly shines is in the Museum. There’s just about everything you can think of when it comes to the Samurai Shodown series. Character artwork, concept sketches, stage art, music, etc. There’s even interviews with some of the folks who worked on past games and some professional matches from past tournaments.

Blocks!: Hammer of the Scots

Blocks!: Hammer of the Scots

Looks great. Could be great .

However there are a some serious bugs that make the game not really playable. At least , not faithful to the board game.

The card that makes a noble switch sides , should be decided on a die roll. I have seen that card come up four times, and it was successful each time. Could happen, but there is no dice rolled in the graphics makes me thing otherwise.

The main attack force and the reserves is the biggest problem, that is just chosen randomly by the computer.

Naval movement only allowed me to move one unit. And then asked me if i was sure , when i pressed NEXT. So the game at some level know i was allowed to move anther unit , but would not let me.

The game requires some serious polish.

Besides a weak AI (more or less acceptable), coding is sometimes faulty.

The game hangs randomly due a fatal bug during wintering phase that turns it totally unplayable with either Scots or Brits. From time to time the cards drawing enters in a wierd loop.

Also noticed that picking destinations at the end of the turn are some times ignored, like Wallace unable to move to the forest, or nobles unable to pick specific castle.

There are some other improvable usability annoyances.

End of War 1945

End of War 1945

Not sure how this will go as a PVP title, but as a single player WWII arena shooter it has a lot of promise

It runs well, has a decent roster of weapons and the maps have some nice variety. I’ve heard it was a team of 3 who made this game and that’s pretty solid.

The price may raise some eyebrows, but this one is worth taking a look at. It’s got a long way to go, but it runs decent and doesn’t feel like a rip off

A good game! that is still in development would be nice if more were to play online, so a game can develop.

Walkabout Mini Golf VR

Walkabout Mini Golf VR

What a hidden gem! This is an absolute MUST have for VR, especially if you are playing with friends. You’re going to think I’m kidding, but this stands next to Pavlov and Alyx in my top three VR games.

While so many games feel like tech demos, this plays smoothly and accurately, has great multiplayer, has fun collectables, it’s got charm - It’s just an actual finished game that feels like it was made with love.

Not the mention the new map added for free which was awesome and introduced a new gameplay mechanic as well. I can’t wait for the next one. I’m writing this review because the devs really deserve it!

This is the best VR Mini Golf game out. I really like the map designs and searching for new golf balls and looking for clues on the (hard) courses to unlock new putters really adds more to the game.

Colonial Conquest

Colonial Conquest

First off, yes, this is a rather simplistic Strategy game and will not appeal to some. That said, you have to take into account that this game is a remake of a 1985 classic SSI game of the same title. I played that game ALOT and it was always a lot of fun back them.

If you do not have the time to sink into a massively complex game and still want the satisfaction of crushing those who oppose you, this will be a fun game.

If you want to micro manage your forces every move and take days playing, this will not be the game for you.

Real player with 60.8 hrs in game

The visuals are quite nice, with a lovely boardgame-like map to play on, and nice detailing and backgrounds on the menus. They certainly got their hands on a good artist. What you see in the screenshots is exactly what you get. Unfortunately that is the ONLY thing you get.

What the game promises, and what it delivers, are two very different things. The video on the store page suggests a cunning and strategic game of influence and military control over the uncivilized regions of the globe, but don’t be fooled: The game itself plays rather like a game of Risk where you can’t see your opponent’s pieces and every coastal territory is adjacent.

Hnefatafl

Hnefatafl

This game the most fun I can find these days (coming from an experienced hobby chess player). Different rules and game types are available for the ancient Hnefatafl game that was played in the viking area before the advent of chess. Hnefatafl is an unbalanced game where the strategy for each side is very different. One side plays the defender and must escape with the king while the attackers rush to capture him. Because of this unbalance in the rules the computers are still no match for decent human players. Try for example the mode legacy berserk and you will find yourself at the top of the food chain in no time. The number of possible moves to play increases faster than in e.g. chess and go, making it hard to calculate and predict far ahead, especially for the larger boards. Because of this complexity and the unbalance in the rules it will take time for the computers to play well leaving the arena for us humans to compete using intuition to guide us. Maybe you have what it takes to come up with a new way to play and beat the current top ranked players?

This appears to offer everything you need if you are interested in this ancient game, including all the main variants, the ability to customise the game and rules and create your own variants. online play, synchronization with with the mobile phone version, decent graphics and interface, graphical mods, and great developers who listen to feedback and strive to keep improving the game.

I suggested an interface/display change to make the game look better on my monitor and screen resolution, and with a day or two an update was released with the idea implemented. Fantastic!

Imperivm RTC - HD Edition “Great Battles of Rome”

Imperivm RTC - HD Edition “Great Battles of Rome”

This game has been out since 2005. The game concept is really good, you fight to conquer the map in real-time against your opponents in different modes from 1v1 to 4v4. You can also play against the IA, but it is so limited, after 5 hours you have already completed the adventures and scenarios that the game offers. The core of this game is the online mode. You can play with friends, members of the community, and even in tournaments organized by the community (the last one had $1200 in prizes). Sadly after the community gathered $74,000 (63,200 euros) through Kickstarter for the game developer to release the game through Steam and for them to FIX THE MULTIPLAYER, they released the game as it was, without any changes in the multiplayer. They promised to put some dedicated servers for the game, a matchmaking system, and even a small ranking system for the community, but they never did. Today you CAN’T PLAY ONLINE without the game lagging for 10 seconds every 5 minutes. The online experience is horrible and you can barely find players due to that issue.

Imperivm III is one of my childhood games and, in all seriousness, my favourite game ever.

The amount of hours I’ve spent on the game, playing online with friends and fighting in clan wars with one of the most active and dedicated communities I’ve ever seen, can only barely be summarized by my current playtime stated on steam.

Hence, you may ask, “Why are you negatively reviewing your favourite game?” in order to understand that, one must understand that this game, in the current state, presents a dissonance between the developer’s will and ideas, and the dedicated playerbase’s own ideas.

Tafl Champions: Ancient Chess

Tafl Champions: Ancient Chess

This is a fine game, and a free one on top of that.

There’s a surprising amount of tactics behind a very simple core concept.

Played with my friend, enjoyed it quite a bit!

Thought the attacker has a huge advantage by not being too greedy and encircling the field, as well as engaging in fair warrior trades, but defender can do quite a lot with his throne and a retinue of fighters preventing the enemy from capturing too many nearby squares.

Main cons would be unclear rules with the throne - it would be better if UI would suggest what will be captured by each move and King / Throne would be highlighted somehow whenever the Throne is left. This would help recognise that the King can be captured like a normal warrior now and the throne is hostile to defenders too - otherwise too easy to forget it and lose on the spot.
