A Year Of Rain

A Year Of Rain

As a Warcraft/Starcraft and Command & Conquer Kid, I was positively surprised to hear there’s someone taking a stab at a new RTS.

It’s heartwarmingly reminiscent of those games. Yeah, let me go grab my fucking Pulitzer, I bet there is a category for stating the obvious. Of course most RTS games are akin to the merciless RTS Emperor sitting on the throne made out of the bones of anyone who dares step into their domain.

Reading it was Daedalic running straight into that chainsaw, I was prepared for another mixed bag.

A Year of Rain

A new, unique RTS that had potential, but due to lack of publisher faith, was crippled at launch and abandoned soon after

So… This game is pretty good. It’s pretty much like a Warcraft 3 spiritual successor. Better than WC3 Reforged in a lot of ways.

As much as I want to love this game however I can’t pretend I’m not disappointed. The game was released unfinished, and abandoned very quickly. I don’t think Daedalic had any faith in it, they released it before it was ready and didn’t even give it a chance to build momentum and customer faith. They were hoping for a big launch with their unfinished early access game, didn’t get it, and abandoned the game rather than wait. As a game dev I understand the circumstance, but you can’t expect an EA title to sell like a finished one. It does come with a beefy campaign, that can be played solo or coop. It has full on voice acting, in game cutscenes, etc. Plus skirmish mode, and of course Online mode. So the content is there, it was mostly finished even, but as expected needed work, which is the whole point of early access. Pathfinding can be pretty bad sometimes, which REALLY hurts the play experience in an RTS. Other than that however the game-play is pretty polished and AYOR really gives WC3 reforged a run for it’s money IMO. I do hate the Coop AI, because I prefer to play solo and I have always hated Coop RTS campaigns with AI allies (like Red Alert 3) but still the game has SO MUCH potential it makes me depressed. I’m just disappointed that Daedalic seemingly launched this game to try and make back as much of their money as possible without ever really planning to support it, they basically lied about it, but in an underhanded way so they could shrug off blame.

Mytheon

Mytheon

Great Game! Collect Stones and Armor and use them in the correct combination to conquer your enemies. A lot of bugs for sure. Some that make it almost unbearable Such as logging in. It will on average of five attempts to get your char to it’s destination. First Log in fail, Server Fail, Char Fail, and Zone Fail twice. After that your are playing a online game solo. You might see a person but can’t talk except through Mail system. There are other chat channels set up but they are broken over 90% of the time. Than if you do get to group it will take allot of failures getting to the same zone. Also since the communication is horrid you tend to solo anyway. Worth it? To most….. maybe not. To me YES! The frustration of trying to get to a boss, (That may or may not be glitched) and taking him/her down solo sometimes feels impossible. So when you finally do the feeling is so rewarding! Sometimes that has to be enough for you, because you’re probably not going to get the loot you want. Also when you get it, you will already be able to take down the boss without it. Seriously though I do love the game. How can I love a game that seems so broken or perhaps is so broken? To be honest Mytheon has such a great concept I feel the developers were onto something fantastic with the logic of gameplay. The combination of stones, with armor, and class using the right tools for the job makes it so rewarding when you figure out the correct strategy for the boss/environment your are in. Yes there are broken stones you can use to kill almost every enemy but even then you have to still use the right timing and armor. Also obtaining the stones and armor is a feat in itself. You can challenge yourself or you can play with ease it’s up to how you want to play. Mytheon truly is a enjoyable game once you get passed the glitches. I would love to see a remake or a new game with advancements of their concept. Until then, I have enjoyed Mytheon and will continue to as long as it is out.

I played Mytheon back when it was released in the Beta format around 5-6 years ago and I loved it. Despite my horrid internet connection back then I found myself pouring hours and hours into the mythical world this game presented to me and now, 5 years down the line I was beyond ecstatic to see that the game was getting a re-release on Steam and bought it as soon as I was able.

Delving back into the game after all this time I was hit by a wave of nostalgia when I was presented with an interface I’d spent so much time interacting with all those years ago and despite the janky gameplay style, I couldn’t have been happier; it was exactly how I remembered it. The stone system is a unique gameplay aspect that I’ve never seen replicated in any other game and it’s this aspect that I think gives this game its charm.

COD 4 what can i say but it was the call of duty to start the prime days back in 2007 of complete pure fun until after BO2 then they went off the rails for me but this is a very good game i tell ya but its modded to hell now well most of the severs are and another problem i could not get my hands on with the multiplayer is there is no prestige mode for you once you have reach level 55 thanks to some of the severs they have added a prestige mod for you to carry on enjoying yourself and having more of that replay ability there for you and for an old game there is still a good amount of players floating around so that’s something i appreciate but if you like the old school call of duty with its campaign and multiplayer this is for you to try you will not get bored.

Monster Jaunt

Monster Jaunt

This game has that classic Nintendo couch party vibe. I’ve played it with a few different groups of people, and it seems to work well with both frequent and casual gamers. The minigames have a good amount of variety to them, and there’s enough minigames to give it a plenty of replayability. One particularly nice touch is the adorable art of the hybrid creatures in the game. I’ve fallen in love with the panda/andaconda hybrid"pandaconda" and the fiery otter “magmotter”.

Favorite minigame:

I would heartily recommend Monster Jaunt for anyone looking for a new party game.

The mini games give you a variety of challenges that mostly focus on skill and not pure chance. The board game is engaging and yet lightweight enough to be understood at a glance. Nearly the entire game allows for simultaneous play, so you don’t lose engagement while someone else it taking their turn. The Remote Play Together integration works wonderfully, as expected. Being able to play a local game across the country with little detriment is a huge bonus feature for a game like this.

XIII

XIII

★☆☆☆☆ Terrible!

Action

The 2020 remake of XIII is a cheap, lazy, broken cash-in on a once fascinating name.

It really makes me feel bad to have to say that because I had high hopes for this. But it’s true! In the same year that 2K gave us an amazing remake for the original Mafia, XIII stands in its own class of awfulness. That anyone could release a game in this state and try to charge 40 Euro for it, let alone goat people into pre-ordering it, is appalling.

At first, I thought the ‘very negative’ review status on Steam was a little overboard. I had followed the discussion boards before release and boy, some people did not like the style change. Having played this for an hour and then gone back to the original, I can say with a certainty that I should have listened to those people more. Not only have the developers ripped all of the charm from the original game, but they have also failed to replace it with anything of substantial worth. I think this is the most apparent in the half-a$$ed attempts to tie some of this remake’s style into the original’s. In the original, was frequent and eventually blended into the background. Here it’s reserved for very few things. It’s noticeable that its inclusion feels inconsistent at best.

Real player with 18.6 hrs in game

Graphics aside, what the remake was INTENDED to be was the original game’s campaign and levels more or less faithfully recreated (with the original cel-shading replaced by more of a Fortnite-like cartoony art-style), but with new, more “modern” Call of Duty-inspired gameplay, including aim-down-sights, a limited inventory, a simplified health/armor system, and partial regenerating health. Rather similar to what happened with F.E.A.R. 2/F,E,A,R, 3, Bioshock Infinite, Aliens Colonial Marines, etc.

BomberX

BomberX

The game of childhood. Exciting - it would seem that the gameplay is straightforward. But placing bombs, thinking where to escape from the explosion and from enemies, and listening to music - the head turns off, and a day passes, and not an hour after the game. A variety of levels, enemies. The real strategic game is to understand when, where and why. Recommend!

Real player with 1.7 hrs in game

BomberX is a pretty fun little arcade blocky game. It reminds me a lot of that old game a lot of us used to play in our childhood, Atomic Bomberman.

Keep in mind right from the start that the game’s in very Early Access and there’s bound to be some issues around. But, with the help of the players, the team behind this unpolished gem could create something great.

Things are basic and easy to get right into. You load the game, and you can play either offline mode with bots or jump into the multiplayer with other people.

A GAME EVERYONE SHOULD BUY!!!

I usually never spent a dime on games BUT THIS GAME IS IT! JUST TRUST A STRANGER FOR ONCE,

you’ll make good memories, download it on a laptop, and play with a chick you like on the same keyboard :)

thank you developers!!

it came very handy in parties, played with 8 people on a tv, everyone got the handle of this game easily,

I would dare to say this is better than popular party games!

Always enjoyed playing Snake, first on my Nokia 8310, and then 3600 (remembered the model number for the latter, as I bizarrely included it in a sketch for my answering service message, but had to look up the former—N O S T A L G I A).

This game has everything you loved about those versions, enhanced by (optional) power-ups, local multiplayer (up to 6) and a plethora of modes and modifiers to keep things interesting. A couple of my fav. settings, should you care to try them, are “Pew Pew Tailless,” on “Super Fast” (second fastest) game speed, and “Tail Runner,” on “Slow.”

The first thing I need to say is READ THE MANUAL! If you’re like me and tend to play a casual game or two to get the hang of things it’s very easy to have no idea what you are doing and lose the game. A quick skiim of the manual will give you an idea of what is what and how the game runs.

I very nearly wrote a bad review after my first game after giving up in just five minutes, I hadn’t read the manual and had no clue what I was doing.

The graphics and sound options on the game are not great, basic graphics and no volume control are something of a turn-off, but you can do what I did and turn off the game’s music and ignore the graphiocs quality.

I got this with stardock legends pack, so it was so cheap. It works on my win 10, and I don’t update it unless it asks me so it works perfectly on win10. First with the cons, the training isn’t working as it shows when you press f2 ( it’s been showed in help, f1) so I played a game at beginner than “difficult in pain”. After few lose I managed to own the world. So there should be some ways to endure the others. Ok you will say me to use cards and lucki but cards require too much resources for a losing company. Maybe I’m telling this because MOBA games and their competitive game strategy is popular now, however, I still think there should be balance. Also I wish to have suggestions to continue after 55% global market sharings. Or there would be other choices such as technology winnig. And pros, if you like this kind of games you will like it. You really need to control market, demand and sellings should be balanced very well, otherwise you lose. I really liked it. I wish ppl upgraded it till now, but this gem also lost itself in the marketing :/
