Up Left Out

Up Left Out

Up Left Out is a sliding block puzzle game where the primary gimmick is that the blocks have to be slid out of the pegs holding them before they can be moved around like normal. For the starting levels, removing the blocks from the pegs is all you have to do, but later on you’ll also have to create complete lines from red fragments on top of the blocks, as well as contend with other mechanics like rotating blocks and moving walls.

My main problem with this game is that it feels half-finished. There’s only around 50 levels, and considering how every time a new mechanic is introduced the game uses a few levels to ease you into how it works, it feels like only one half of the package is made of actual puzzles. Of those, the majority felt more like busywork than brainteasers, and when I reached the point where the game became engaging enough that I felt it was about to truly START, I suddenly got a “THANK YOU FOR PLAYING”, followed by a few bonus levels easier than what I just played. Disappointing, to say the least.

Up Left Out is another short minimalist puzzle game from the maker of Hook, Klocki and Push but this time you are sliding blocks around.

There are various goals to accomplish. It starts off simply, you just need to free each block from it’s holding pin. Other mechanics are slowly introduced, blank blocks that just get in the way, patterns and lines on top of the blocks that need to be matched together to end the puzzle, buttons that rotate all the pieces and walls/gates that can be manipulated to stop blocks at specific places. These walls demonstrate the fundamental mechanic, blocks slide as far as they can until they hit something. Some of the later and best puzzles contain blocks that can only be moved once that pattern on top of them is replicated on other movable blocks.

This just came out of the “Steam is Learning” phase and the devs upped the achieves to 5000.

This is part of the reason why “Steam is Learningj” was implemented in the first place, to stop devs/games from spamming achieves.

Edit: I was informed by the dev that this game was released before Steam implemented its “steam is learning” protocol, which this behavior, ironically, is why “Steam is Learning” was even created in the first place! O.o

Keep it up and Steam will find a way to cut you guys down some more and ruin it for others who are doing the right thing.

Games such as Minecraft, Dark Souls, or Assassin’s Creed mechanics are so good they can be copied and improved upon. I wouldn’t class Zup as a game changer though. The first game was fun, because it was something we hadn’t seen before, but once you got to terms with the game, every other Zup/Oik title since then has been the same thing, as far as gameplay and graphics are concerned. Adding a portal or making it possible to reverse the gravity isn’t going to change the fact that this style of gameplay is going nowhere real quick.

After getting past the bugs, it is a fun game. There are 50 levels, each using a combination of the 4 different pieces, each with their own movement pattern. There isn’t a ton of technique and the challenge doesn’t ramp very high, but it is enjoyable none the less. Unfortunately, I ran into a number of bugs while playing, and even the basics of gameplay are not immediately apparent, and so for that I cannot recommend. 4/10.

This could be, no, this IS the stupidest, easiest and dumbest game ever, though since I fell asleep without closing it, l now show playing the stupidest, easiest and dumbest game ever for over 25 hours. I can’t even say that I got it for free. Whoever got paid for making the stupidest . . . . game is a genius, though a dumb one.

if you like puzzle games. this game is good for these short breaks. jump in do a puzzle, still have time? do one more, close the game.

the puzzles challenge comes from understanding the layout, selecting a color randomly then figuring out what is the order of the puzzle pieces by which you can reach the target for that color. so this puzzle depends on how good you are at memorizing orders and deciphering the map infront of you. so you dont need a high IQ to have fun with it.

totally would recommend for those who love to puzzle, it will complete the games library for you.

Entangle reminded me of the kind of puzzles at millerworldinc. Entangle starts off relatively simple. The graphics are clean and bright, the mechanics are solid, and solving the 1st puzzle is a cake walk: “You Can’t Wait To Get To The Next One”. Simple and Fun. “This is going to be a breeze”.

But…As each new level is reached, the puzzles deceptively get a tiny bit more complex. Hardly noticeable!

It is this perfect balance that is So Wonderful and So Complicated to attain by the designer. That’s why I said that Entangle reminded me of the puzzles at miller world.

In this game there is something very profound, which is the effort to close a cycle and create a meeting!

A short game with intriguing mechanics I had a good experience that was worth it

Short, minimalistic and relaxing game. From level 28 onwards, the game got really interesting and challenging. Too bad, that there are only 30 levels. Would have been nice if there were more levels with increasing difficulty. A challenge mode with a limited amount of turns would be nice as well.

Knight Swap 2

Knight Swap 2

The fight for racial equality continues as green, purple, red, and yellow knights are required to get along to make their way home. Can they trust their fellow knights to guide them to their goals? There are trapdoors this time, so they better hope so.

The Good:

  • It gets very challenging. As of writing this, 12.1% of players made it past level 30 and 5.6% completed the game.

  • The puzzles are actually challenging.

  • The game offers up some new gimmicks along with the old: trapdoors, portals tandem pieces, board flipping, 4 different colors for pieces, and tandem switches.

Not great, but good considering the cheap price

This sequel retains all the mechanics of the first game, while adding 3 new ones which happen to make it significantly harder than its predecessor. These mechanics are:

1. vanishing tiles: tiles which disappear once they are no longer occupied after being activated;

2. linked pieces: some knights have a light on the back of their necks. The light can be in 3 possible positions: top, middle or bottom of the neck. When you move a knight with a light, others with the same light pattern will copy its movement, as long as there is an available tile for them to move to.

Knight Swap

Two knights and their countrymen must overcome their racial differences as they are forced to rule over each other’s kingdoms for a fortnight. Will they recognize similarities between their goals, mindsets, behavioral patterns, abilities, and more, or will they focus on the differences and fail miserably?

The Good:

  • You’ve probably seen other puzzle games that involve moving knights around, but this one manages to be unique.

  • The puzzles are actually challenging.

  • Throws a few gimmicks at you to mix things up: moving across different planes/gaps, portals, switches, etc.

Simple puzzle game, sure, but it was fun and I did enjoy my playthrough. 50 levels is a tad bit short and I did accidentally restart a couple times, but overall not bad for a quick puzzle fix.
