I can honestly say that this game has been one of my favorites of all time. I’ve replayed it so much and every time I do I find some kind of new info or an idea that I never saw before. Also I love how it has inspired me to try and take a look at all of the infrastructure that supports my area.

The Witness

The Witness

The Witness is one of the best puzzle games that I have ever played in my entire life, ever. It’s concept is so ingenious and unusual that it is a masterpiece and a piece of art in and of itself.

Graphics: 4.5/5

Gameplay: 5/5

Audio: 3/5

Story: N/A of 5

Accessibility: 2/5

Graphics:

This games graphics were absolutely stunning when this game first came out, but over time, have fallen off pretty hard since it first came out. I gave this game a 4.5/5 in the Graphics department because the game, to me, still has amazing graphics for its' time (when it came out), and docked it a half point because they’ve fallen off a bit since then.

When I first started playing this game, I’ll be honest, I bought it for the graphics and a brain teaser or two. What I got instead was a masterpiece in my opinion. This is one of the best games, if not the best game, of all time I have ever played, up there with Portal Two. And after playing though a certain endgame challenge, I can honestly say I enjoyed every second of this game. Were there times I felt really stupid and had to look up a guide? Of course. Were there times the elegant solutions inflated my ego and made me think I was a genius? Also yes. And with the randomizer mod on expert difficulty, I’ve just grazed the surface of what this game has to offer. TL/DR: This was one of the best games I’ve played in a long time. Would definitely recommend, worth the price (though if you’re on the fence or don’t usually enjoy puzzle games, wait for sale).

Kairo

Kairo

Well this definitely is a strange one.

To those that message me every time I write a recommendation saying “you write long recommendations” … THIS is going to be a long one.

I have a thing for first person puzzle games at the moment, and I was rather intrigued by this games trailer and description. I think what interested me most, was the sense of ‘mystery’ that I got from the trailer. It doesn’t tell you what it is about, or why you are there or what’s going on… and to be honest this game has a real mysterious feel to it throughout the whole thing, you’re asking yourself questions on the who, what and whys but in fairness they aren’t answered all that clearly.

Kairo isn’t a game for everybody. In fact, I wouldn’t even say it was a game for most people. It’s the type of game that takes a lot of patience to enjoy. You’ve got to really put yourself into the game, imagine that you’re really in this place, seeing these things. The atmosphere and mystery are everything, and if that isn’t your bag then you won’t find enough to enjoy here when it comes to pure gameplay.

There are indeed puzzles to be solved, but most of them are quite simple. There are no controls beyond moving around and jumping, and there’s no text or story to speak of beyond what you’re observing of your environment. As is to be expected with these types of games, a lot of it is open for interpretation, including the ending. The graphics are solid, but quite simple and low-budget; most of the architecture is made up of blocks and flat planes.

NightCry

NightCry

I tried, I really really tried to like this game, but NightCry makes it SO hard. It’s like it purposefully punishes you for playing, believing frustrating and clunky game mechanics make a good horror game. Well, let me tell you guys something…it doesn’t, and it didn’t back in the mid-90’s either. The premise, PS2 era graphics, nonsensical storyline, god awful voice acting, and ridiculous dialogue are all superbly nostalgic, but having to drag myself through its gameplay to experience the rare moment of comedic genius is not worth the payoff.

After playing around 12 hours of the game, getting all but two endings (got the best ending), and seeing a majority of the content, I’d say I’m ready to give my opinion of this game.

I came into this wanting a new Clock Tower game. Not in the likes of some odd magical girl fantasy or weird fetish horror like Haunting Ground/Demento. No, I wanted to relive the experience I had being chased and tormented by a sinister creature wielding a giant pair of scissors. And this game delivers in that aspect.

You Are Not a Banana: Better Edition

You Are Not a Banana: Better Edition

Introduction

You Are Not A Banana is a pixel styled adventure/puzzle game set it everyday life. The big reason I liked this game is because of the humor and the really cool soundtrack. The basis of You Are Not A Banana is you follow a man as he goes through a day. Weird and odd things happen, and plenty of little puzzles are present throughout the game. You Are Not A Banana is very short, but the price tag of $2 is reasonable for the time. There is controller support, but the game doesn’t have different icons for the buttons in game. This game is very quirky and is not for everyone, but it is definitely worth a look at.

Really? An unskippable Sokoban puzzle?

The only thing going on is that you go from point A to point B. It is a walking simulator, no real decisions.

Looked alright, but I can’t recommend this game. Way too basic and boring.

A Long Road Home

A Long Road Home

Let me be fair and square. Lately I´m not that much into RPG Maker games since they are mostly all alike, This one stands aside.

Firstly, it’s a point-and-click adventure with completely deployable mouse.

Secondly, the game has both a good story (including lore) and a bunch of good puzzles.

Thirdly, you actually have to read the docs you find in order to move on through the plot, which I find pretty unique these days.

Besides, the soundtrack is fantastic and adds a lot to the atmosphere.

For a game that I payed 80 cents (sale) this was a good bargain. I’ve passed about 8 hours playing it, it’s not too much hard, but I do recommend a guide because some puzzles can be a bit more frustrating. You need to be very attentive to what you find and read!

Story was not a must but for the price I wasn’t expecting something grand. I do recommend.

P.S. - I had to play it in the small window mode, because fullscreen makes the pixels too much big, a pity that there’s no middle to window size in this game…….

Just completed playing the early access

it took me almost 13 hours to finish the lady with red dress’s route (I guess the game is supposed to have routes since you can unlock different outfits and rooms for each) which is quite thrilling

but I spent way too much time because of bugs and replaying the game over and over lol

I’m sure that it’s going to be such a great horror game, I personally found it entertaining!

here are some tips that might help developing it

(might contain spoilers-do not read unless you’ve finished)

well, i am not into a scary game to be honest. I just want to search some game to chill on. I see the game from my friends recommendation and i think the game is kind of cute. How wrong i was….

I love how the game remind me back to Amnesia genre, but with 2D perspective. I like how the puzzle works and kind of giving me exploration mood with all of the stuff in the game.
