Neon Souls

Neon Souls

That’s where you’re wrong. These same effects are the main part of the game mechanics, which at first didn’t seem to me, but the more I progressed through the levels, the more I saw the importance of using these effects to my advantage, whether to anticipate some moves or to help me stay alive. Gameplay quite different and very attractive 100/100.

As good as the colors of the soul. It is necessary to play with caution and explore slowly so as not to die. Very good.

Holy cow, this game is my aesthetic. I turned off the pixelation; as fun as it is, it’s difficult to deal with the entire time. This game isn’t scary as much as it is a weird B-movie with occasional jump scares. I love the ambiguous storyline; this being a relatively small community it’s got a lot of mystery in the world and gameplay.

It has a lot of personality and the devs continue to do a good job in updating it. It’s a survival rogue-like at heart; you have to make decisions as to how you’ll survive, and there isn’t a lot of room for equipment. Dying can be discouraging, but (at least in easy mode) you can go through the entrance of the biome you died in and pop back into the level you were just at. There’s really not a whole lot to it once you understand what’s going on. It’s just a fun, addictive game.

AMID EVIL

AMID EVIL

AMID EVIL at its core is a wonderfully rendered retro throwback FPS that beckons the nostalgic memories of games such as Heretic and Hexen and Quake with gorgeous environments, beautiful weapon feel and a majestic combat encounters.

However, I come to you today not focused on the weapons, the enemies or the aesthetics, but rather something truly gorgeous: the Difficulty Selection level.

Most games dare not be so bold with something so seemingly obtuse as a Difficulty Selection level where it is not as simple as clicking a rather comedic naming on a menu. AMID EVIL, in this regard, dares to be different. There have been other reviews left for this game with scathing remarks as to the “poor design” of the Difficulty Selection. I disagree wholeheartedly. For you see, the Difficulty Selection tutorializes the player of the movement mechanics and the weight of the Champion in such an elegant and silent way that most take for granted. To go for the Easy difficulty, it is straightforward and one could get by the challenge by only holding the “W” key on the Keyboard. This is Leon Zawada and Simon Rance’s brilliance coming into full display here. By having the Easy difficulty being so easy to access, it makes clear of the very nature of the room so as to not to cause further confusion with regards to the other options.

Amid Evil is strange, half of the game is some of the best level design, music, atmosphere, and art direction Ive seen in a game. The other half is a boring bland repetitive slog. Its a coin flip for which episode is which, but imo the best Amid Evil gets is worth the worst it can be.

2 points:

  1. Regardless of your susceptibility to epilepsy, this game WILL give you a seizure (note the 5.5 hrs on record - i was not conscious for at least 5 of those hours).

  2. This is not a duck simulator and is exploitive to waterfowl more generally.

All that being said, I recommend this game. …if only to promote a market where more waterfowl is featured in gaming.

Game provided by the Dev via my Curator Page.

Saturday of Piercing Screams is the second game to the “Samozbor” series created by the Russian Developer “Derevotyan.” The goal of the game is to sacrifice 914 people over the course of 64 levels to the great shark god thing? Honestly I have no idea what’s going on… Like the whole series in general is super confusing to me, but it’s interesting none the less.

Clarity of The Soul

Clarity of The Soul

Clarity of the soul is a psychological horror from the first person, where attention is paid to the study of objects and the challenge of fear in the player.

This is a story about the main character who was on the side of justice and bravery, which inadvertently led to a sentence of 12 years in prison. At the end of the term, the hero returned home, but there was no one to wait for him and he will have to partially return to his former life. At night, the hero is overtaken by nightmares that remind him of what happened earlier, so the task remains - to end the past, cope with stress and move on.

Space Moth: Lunar Edition

Space Moth: Lunar Edition

This game has a complex scoring system with lots of different ways to score and a focus on risk versus reward. The bullet patterns are interesting and the gameplay is good! It also works with my Saturn USB pad without issue.

However, this is NOT a beginner’s game. I’ve played a lot of shmups, and this one is quite difficult. There is only one difficulty level, and the the only way to make the game easier is to ignore the scoring system altogether.

Star Hunter DX, by the same developer, is another good game with an interesting scoring system, but it’s a little easier for beginners (but still pretty hard).

Real player with 3.3 hrs in game

I’ve just started playing the Lunar Edition of Space Moth and it is a top tier indie shmup in my opinion. The scoring system is super simple and engaging for beginners and the skill ceiling seems high enough for most die hard fans of the genre. It also has a tate mode for us vertical monitor users (I do wish the game supported portrait resolutions, but thats only a slight inconvenience).
