If you find the background distracting, turning off all the graphics will fix that issue.

Each run takes about an hour and a half. The difficulty I would rate 3/5, so if you are skilled at all with roguelikes it will probably take you only 2 to 3 attempts to beat the game.

Nice change of pace, good game!

A lot of fun!

I absolutely adore the simplicity and drive of this game.

It’s easy to pick up, tricky to master and even trickier to stop playing.

Makes you want to try again, again and again to improve your progress without making you want to brake your controller.

Great job! :)

[PLAYED ON REGULAR DIFFICULTY]

Just from the brief amount I’ve played, I’m kinda surprised that this game has been abandoned. So, for those who have stumbled upon this game by accident (maybe your friend had it in their library or you got a coupon for in from badges), here’s a quick review for ya.

A Nifty Game is a very simple 2D rougelite shooter, similar to “Enter The Gungeon” in overall gameplay. Where it deviates though is through it’s simplicity and clunkiness. Encounters are very simple as they only involve dodging and shooting, and you eventually enter an overpowered state depending on how lucky you’ve gotten during a run. Still, I’ve found myself enjoying the little spirts of battle in the game, even when the clunkiness started showing up. I’m calling the clunkiness an intended feature of the game, given how it ended. I bring it up since there will be points where you escape from the map or where the visuals will look like they’re broken. Still, I found these bits of clunkiness fine and in some aspects enjoyable. The only real problem I have with the game is the music, or lack thereof. The trailer might be chiptune, but all you’ll really hear in the game is wind.

Atom Zombie Smasher

Atom Zombie Smasher

Atom Zombie Smasher is a super little indie strategy game. The basic premise is that you take on the guise of a commander holding back the zombie hordes from overruning your city.

It works on two levels; first is the strategy where a map of the city districts is where you see the progress of zombie infestations and plan your next mission. You can choose which military assets you take with you from: infantry, snipers, mines, demolitions, barricades, gas attracting teams or artillery. Once you initiate the mission, the game changes to a tactical sub-game where you place your units on the map to best protect the civilians you are trying to extract from the map, while avoiding collateral damage. To many dead civilians and you fail.

There’s alot to be said about Atom Zombie Smasher. the game is an amazing mix of challenging gameplay and challenges.

Atom zombie smasher does not hesitate to put you smack dab into action, your first challenge becomes to rescue some civilians from an impending zombie invasion which sets the tone for the rest of the game.

As you progress in the game you’re provided with varying mercenaries that randomly get picked for missions. Some examples of mercenaries are for example ranger teams, snipers and dynamite teams. Each map will provide a different challenge which requires alot of tactical thinking and planning.

Virus Blast

Virus Blast

This game has infected me like a Virus.

I love it. It’s incredibly addicting. I purchased it two seconds after Shattered Rift’s stream. We’ve been competing for the leader board. I can’t get enough, and I’m pretty sure I robbed the developers and need to buy more copies for people or find a donate button.

All of my thanks for such an addicting game. Props to y’all.

June 21st Edit. Virus Blast is a strong candidate for my choice of Indie Game of the Year 2020. If you enjoy non-traditional games, it’s fantastic. The learning curve is a bit steep, but every upgrade you unlock feels incredibly satisfying.

I’m currently ranked 3rd on the Leader Boards, and the video above shows why Virus Blast is as satisfying to play as it is to watch.

I only found 1 out of the 7 Super Bosses - Prepare to spend a lot of time playing this to get the high level pets.

It’s like they wanted this game to be a miserable experience. Because they sure did a great job of it. This game is shit. Don’t buy it. I might have only spent $1 for this game but it’s those 2 hours I’ll never get back.

If you’re interested in knowing why this game sucks, well, it sucks at fucking everything. The movement is seriously awful and clunky. There’s no key mapping. There’s absolutely no explanation for anything in the game so good luck finding out how something works. I ate 3 clips of ammo trying to figure crafting out. Yes, literally ate. The enemies are whack. You need to use like 4 clips just to kill one enemy and don’t get me started on the bosses. And no, ammo isn’t plentiful. You start out with like 10 clips then have to craft more, and in the entire 2 hours, I had the materials to craft like 3. The cursor is made just so that you lose track of it every ten seconds because it’s tiny, and blends into the environment.

EXPOSURE, a game of camouflage

EXPOSURE, a game of camouflage

A game of camouflage where you can’t see yourself. Change colors to hide, dodge predators, and survive intense bosses in the abstract wilderness of stealth non-bullet hell. Lose the ability to see where you are, and learn to feel and know where you’re going.

EXPOSURE and CAMOUFLAGE

Being out in the open is unsafe. Avoid detection to survive. Switch between light and dark forms to camouflage, but careful: you won’t be able to see yourself either.

Entrancing World

Begin defenseless, but evolve into something greater. Progress through different branching paths across 11 procedurally generated areas. Disappear into the psychedelic minimalist design and atmospheric soundscapes.

Intense Bosses

Each area introduces new predators and parasites. Everything is much more powerful than you, but everything has a weakness.

Features

Collect all the Fieldnotes. Beat the Daily Challenge. Discover the fastest routes. Shoot ‘em up without shooting. Bullet hell without bullets. See without looking. Die and evolve.

The majority of reviews on here are positive with like a few hours or even less which I’d say is misleading. I was very close to posting this review earlier on but I wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something by not beating the last 2 bosses, turns out there wasn’t much.

This game becomes a huge grind that’s priced higher than BoI:Rebirth or Enter The Gungeon with significantly less replayability and substance

While learning the ropes the game play is initially enjoyable but ends up being sub par. Seems awesome in the trailer, unfortunately each of those mini game rooms are all gated behind dozens of hours of playtime with the horribly implemented boss coin system, which I’ve only gotten far enough to even unlock two as the progression constantly comes to a halt. I just got on the third page of the six having already beaten the game needing the next character to further the tree anywhere else, he’s shot up to 30 coins to unlock. You get 1 coin per boss so at best you can only get 8 or 9 per run which totals up to 4 runs for just one tier of progress. I haven’t even completed everything on each of the first two pages either, there’s a lot of items cluttering the tree that have almost no use in the game, nobody is spamming grenades to kill enemies as they’re typically a rare resource for accessing rooms or items. Yet there’s a bunch that build off of this alone, which didn’t synergize with my rocket launcher or explosive bullets. There’s no way to speed this up other than to maybe throw runs halfway to farm the first couple of bosses which makes it more of a grind. Upping or lowering the difficulty does not change the amount of coins at all and only arbitrarily changes enemies hp a bit. That’s all, no other incentive to ever up it to hard mode so I wouldn’t even bother with it as long as I did as it just makes runs take longer, and get more repetitive.

GOOD, BAD, UGLY

I’m not recommending this game with the caveat that in the future with some work it could be great. I’ll wait for patches before revisiting.

THE GOOD

The game has a high level of polish. The design aspects and vaporwave aesthetics look great. It looks like a finished product. The core mechanics are polished, requiring a good handle on situational awareness along with some enjoyable gunplay.

The soundtrack hits all the right notes. It feels “cool” as you play and really builds on the universe of the game.

Pangea

Pangea

Distant future. Research spaceship faces with unknown physical phenomenon in a faraway space.

The outcome is safe - the spaceship manages to overcome the anomaly without visible consequences. Though, on arriving to the Earth, the crew discovers it not the same way, as it should be. It seems, the anomaly represented a point of contact of several parallel layers of reality, where the events were happening a little bit differently. When the spaceship went out of the anomaly, it appeared in another layer of reality, not in the same when it got into the anomaly.

In that reality the Earth was not affected by a meteorite, which killed dinosaurus. Giant reptiles remained the dominant form of life, and mammals were poorly developed. As the result - the intelligent life and signs of civilization appeared much later, and by the current moment the society is on the level of Stone Age.

Primitive tribes and dinosaurs, magic and futuristic technologies are waiting for you.

In the “skirmish” mode you have to find and destroy the other players bases. In the campaign, you must complete the mission task.

For each victory, new unit types will be unlocked.

Pangea is a hybrid of turn-based strategy, tabletop game and roguelike. Heroes' moves across the playing field are determined by dice rolls. Turn-based tactical battles take place in a separate hex based arena.

  • Explore procedurally generated maps full of prizes and dangers

  • Enjoy colorful tabletop game styled graphics

  • Lead 4 unique factions with their own set of units and structures: a warlike primitive tribe, guardians of the forest thickets, terrible monsters and highly developed aliens from a parallel world

  • Influence the playing field - change the landscape, construct buildings and set traps

  • Unlock many bizarre creatures and lead them into battle

  • Uncover the secrets of the Pangea world in a story campaign
