Maestro Mode

Maestro Mode is the main attraction: a fun, relaxing experience where the music constantly evolves based on your choices. The Maestro generates random options that you can choose from to alter the music. Hear something you like? Store it as a chorus to come back to later, or save it for usage in the editors.

Build your own loops and define details like instruments, layers, intensity and random seeds. Whatever you do, Robo Maestro makes sure it always fits with the rest of the music!

You can also dive deeper and define the chords and time signatures yourself. You don’t have to though: Robo Maestro can figure everything out itself, so you don’t need to know any music theory to use it. But if you want, you can get more detailed control.

Advanced automatic composition

Robo Maestro is powered by an advanced procedural music generator. Dozens of algorithms work together to create each aspect of a song: drums, bass, melody, chords, rhythm, notes and much, much more. SUMMARY: A graphical toy to make weird, surreal spacescapes and the oddities that inhabit them, from playing with sliders to just randomziing items. On top of that, you get odd soundscapes that play along. A way to just mess around, or a way to create relaxing - or disturbing - backgrounds on your computer or tv display.

Anomalies is a graphical toy that some may call a glorified screen saver - fortunately it’s both!

Basically you can randomize or set a bunch of parameters, that then make surreal spacescapes that you can watch while strange music plays. Depending on your choices, you might watch stars circle by as you observe a nebula, be caught among strange particles, or hover in front of a bizarre tentacular space creature. Or a combination.

This is a really interesting piece of software. It is good to have around to either dip into casually or have a longer session. There can be some nice surprises. I just came up with a not very spectacular creation from the visual point of view, but it has a very nice ethereal sound. Tweaking parameters and hunting and rummaging are great fun. I have got some more choices of wallpaper too.

I found the Midinous grid paradigm to be an inspiring way to place note events within a period of time. Unlike most sequencers which slice a cycle into a number of steps, the Midinous grid allows one to drag events to change the time relationships as well as the overall length of a sequence. The ability to run multiple sequences on different channels on the grid makes creating polyrhythms with different sounds is a gas, baby.

Midinous is one of those really special MIDI sequencers that comes along every once in a while that completely rewrites how I approach making music. Through the semi-modular grid and it’s built in functionality, Midinous allows you to construct MIDI sequences that I could have never accomplished, or would be extremely difficult to create using traditional sequencing tools. I’m overwhelmed with the possibilities and I cannot wait to see where the developer takes Midinous in the future. Highly recommended if you make any kind of music with MIDI whatsoever!

Melody’s Escape is a deceptively simple yet challenging obstacle-based rhythm game with a lot of potential versatility in playstyle. While still in Early Access, it has almost no technical errors and the developer is extremely active, so I would recommend it to people who enjoy rhythm games, especially people who are looking for a different type of procedurally-generated music gameplay. I am terrible at obstacle running games, but I have never ever found the platforming element of this game to be obtrusive or overwhelming because it integrates so well with the beat and feels so smooth on a sensory level.

Summary

Melody’s Escape best represents rhythm synthesizer that generates various movement keys depending on the theme and digital nature of your favorite songs. The environment is always altered between each song you choose so everything is fairly different and randomized. As such since this is a rhythm game, a lot of gameplay is created based on the music’s movement. Some parts of a song can jump from being very fast paced to having a sudden drop in movement.

After Audiosurf made revolution in rhythm genre by letting us turn our personal MP3 files into custom racing levels, we’ve got all sorts of things with similar concept. It’s kinda fun, but, even though Audiosurf had a lot of space to improve, nobody ever tried to seriously compete with it. I mean, we’ve got quite a lot of rhythm racing games. We’ve got Music Racer, we’ve got Rhythmic Retro Racer, we’ve got Rhythm Race and so on. But those were just quick ways to make money. None of those ever tried to compete with Audiosurf for real. While games that actually tried to deliver something real? They just went for the other sub-genres.

When I first got this game I was really hyped because it was brought to us by the same people who made Music Racer, which already was a fantastic game. The graphics, game play, and the overall beat recognition was amazing and also trippy AF.

The problem I first had with the game was that it wouldn’t play YouTube songs, nor would it even play my own audio files. So that made me really disappointed. I read reviews that other people had posted about the game and they all seemed to have the exact same issue. A lot of people were saying that the developer stopped working on the game. At this point in time I believed them and I haven’t touched the game since.

This is a bullet hell style vertical shooter but with a very casual difficulty curve. You basically can’t fail (you will play until the end of a song), but your score and rewards will depend on your overall performance so there’s still a reason to try. The higher difficulty options can offer quite a challenge, but you can take as much time as you want before ever attempting anything above easy while still getting the play value from all of your music.

Basically the game is designed to be relaxing and let you browse your entire music collection while using elements of the song to customize the game play. Things like the tempo of the song determine how fast the game scrolls or the beats can determine some number of the enemies in each wave and then your difficulty selection magnifies these customizations. I don’t know all the specifics and the customization differences are often minor, but it does mean every song you play will be slightly different.

In Short:

This game is for those who like 2D plane slightly angled from top-down shoot em' ups in which one is predominantly dodging and destroying enemies that move and act in response to the tempo and all else of ones' (favorite) audio over a minute and thirty seconds long (that is on the computer you are playing on), then this game is for you.

Note: The enemies rarely fire at you, but unlike bullet-hells, you’re entire ship is the hitbox, so enemies can be smashed into, but it will damage your ship. Luckily you can repair it via collecting “Music Notes” (dropped points) from enemies one has shot to death after your ship lost part of itself (took damage).

Audiosurf is a very, very unique game and is definitely a landmark in the music/rhythm game genre. Unlike other rhythm games, which limit you to specific in-game songs, Audiosurf is limitless - it allows you to play any - that’s right, any - MP3 of your choice, so you can suit your gameplay to your own music tastes. This freedom is rarely found, if at all, in music games, and it has set the stage for other music games in the vein of it, such as Beat Hazard and the more recent Melody’s Escape. In my opinion, Audiosurf has infinite replay value, as long as you have a large amount of songs to play.

I’ve played this game for a pretty long while and still play it, simply can’t stop oO

Basically I launch drum & bass tracks in such styles as darkstep, techstep, neurofunk, liquid funk. From time to time I launch heavy dubstep which’s mainly deathstep style and also, sometimes glitch-hop, neuro-hop styles of glitchy Electronic Dance Music - it’s an amazing experience and makes about 90% of my races nearly impossible to finish with a good score. Tho probs I’m just a noob, but I still love it very much! xD

Maybe you are familiar with games like Audiosurf or Melody’s Escape. This is one of the games of that game genre. Don’t expect much from it at the moment, but it sure looks promising. The fact there is only 1 person working on this entire game, is mindblowing to me.

You control an airship with mouse and hover over the notes, while pressing the coresponding key each time. I like the gameplay, and the colorful graphics. The in-game gameplay is jittery, but it’s no issue for me. The game might have problems with placing notes when there is a lot of going on in the song. I get that, many games of this genre have that issue, if not all (It is actually impossible to create the perfect music analyzer that would work with any type of music).

Nice and simple game, great music and concept. It would be a very good game for its scale if it got some more polish in the way how the controls work and how the game communicates its concepts.

Some feedback for the developer(s):

  1. To jump I drag my mouse pointer and that’s fine. What’s weird is that it seems like the game tracks not how I drag the pointer on the screen, but how it moves in the game world. Meaning that if i fall down my arrow starts pointing down and I have to cancel my attempt.
