Dear Future

Dear Future

I forced myself to finish it so you don’t have to.

TL:DR 8 hours of boring walking to uncover a lame story, and a non working multiplayer.

A walking simulator made for some college student art project, what could go wrong???

But the innovative sounding multiplayer component, plus the fact that it’s free, sucked me in. And the game, although minimalist, initially manages to feel well-designed and polished…

But notice how none of the reviewers seem to have played this for more than 30 minutes?

Photos of future ruins

Dear Future (Dear Future Production Committee, 2021) is an asynchronous massively-multiplayer photography game about exploring an abandoned city. I have been trying to write about it for several weeks and have found myself incapable of doing with any organization or distance. What follow, instead, are orchestrated recollections and half-formed conclusions of my time with the game. A half-step towards the understanding I’m searching for. A version with photos is available here .

I played this game once and it froze. My second try at this game and all that appears is a hour glass with the intro tile of the game. This is unacceptable. I want to play the game not look at a intro page for 3 minutes. Please fix the game or just remove this from steam.

This game looks like it can be fun, it’s definitely creepy right from the start. However, due to bugs I get stuck almost immediately upon starting the game. In an early room with a “don’t look up” sign on a table, a few scripted events happen but then I can’t interact with anything and I can only walk around that room in the dark or a hallway with doors that don’t open.

Maybe come back to this game after the developers fix it. In the meantime I recommend “Don’t Knock Twice” as a much higher quality alternative.

SEDOMAIRI / せどまいり

SEDOMAIRI / せどまいり

This game is tight, the gameplay concept is so cool but it doesn’t match up with the setting of this game, it’s almost a waste. The atmosphere is awesome, the sound design is really good and again- it’s a shame. The game runs like a charm too, you would only find trouble running this if you played it on one of those touch screen calculators.

Buy this game if you want a cheap scare for a little bit, but unless you’re really into it I doubt you will finish the game because it follows a cheap gimmick, that’s the biggest problem I have with SEDOMAIRI. You have to sneak behind the ghosts, the level design doesn’t help you because it’s a maze, you could use the radio but it only shows you a general direction and in some cases with the convoluted map design it will work against you. The AI doesn’t follow an obvious pattern, their view distance is larger than yours so if you’re in front of them but can’t see them, they will still spot you and trigger a hunting sequence. Here’s the gimmick, you NEED to trigger the hunting sequence to reliably eliminate the “child”/ghost, you will trigger it and then run into a hiding space- that’s if you can remember where they are, then hide until they lose you, leave the hiding space and then sneak behind them and drive a nail into them (you need to find these nails which isn’t so bad but a really cheap way at motivating you to explore).

Starting to think it is impossible to find the dolls. in 35 minutes i played i was not able to find single one of them and you have to find 5 of them if i remember. take in consideration i was playing in the easiest difficulty. also the ghosts seem to go back to place where they spawned always that restricts you from exploring and trying to find dolls there.

Might give this a another try, when the frustration has worn off, but if you are looking challenge that seems nearly impossible go for it.

Castle of no Escape 2 is not afraid to make fun of its own retro aesthetic. It pulls off its stylistic approach to the point where even its unintended bugs look like a throwback to the classics it pays homage to. Not only that, but it does this all while still managing to put a fresh spin on old ideas in order to become something unique in its own right.

This game is a short, polished retro roguelike gem that borrows effectively from style and design elements of Nintendo-era (and older) games but also adds its own distinctiveness and charm. The ability to ignore a lot of the combat if you want, the openness of the levels, and the entire game occurring on one screen (with no menus and very little text once you are playing) are probably the rarest qualities of this game when compared to others of this genre. I was also impressed by the number of monster types that had unique game mechanics associated with them. The combat atmosphere was reminiscent of an old TSR game or the ancient battlechess game Archon. I can’t remember the last time I encountered a sprite-based centaur.

**Actual Review:

This game has (for a former flash game) really nice graphics, banger soundtracks (Basement 1 is op imo), smooth controls (uses arrow keys and wasd or wasd and mouse, don’t waste your time on shooting with mouse man.) and performance. I love that the story is much deeper than what you thought when you first started playing, I won’t say too much but Christianity is involved. TBOI has a big replay value because of the endless combination of various items found in the dungeons and multiple characters with different starting items and health variations that get unlocked by playing the game in specific manners like getting different endings (for example to not spoiler anyone who hasn’t had the opportunity to experience this wonderful game) plus almost every play through is different from the last. TBOI is also really balanced in difficulty, getting harder the further you explore and it actually gets wanna be the boshy hard near the end, especially if you have a bad run and your found items are bullsh… . Biggest Pro though: who does not want to shoot tears (or something else ;3 ) at poop

! and your insane, murderous and obese mum? ?**

Ok, where to start :D

First of all, I’m a very very very scary person.

But shortly after release I found this game for a few Euro and asked my friends if they would play this game.

Well, I haven’t thought about to receive so many positive answers.

So in the end, I created my own death ._.

LOL, no not really, but I mean, I played it now for 24 hours in total, went through a lot of updates and sometimes I just wanted to delete the game, but in the end, it is one of the most played games this year.

Partial Control

Partial Control

Partial control was a surprisingly rich and refreshing experience.

It’s a tactical semi-turn based game where the goal is to keep your cyborg alive. The action in the game happens in real time, but pauses at specific moments to let you make limited modifications to the field, yourself and the enemy cyborgs.

The graphics in this game have a simplistic cyberspace feeling to them which works well to give the game it’s unique atmosphere but is otherwise unremarkable.

Where this game really shines is in its gameplay. If you’ve played many tactical games, you will know that the solutions can sometimes feel a little bit scripted, you are expected to do certain things a certain way to beat each level. This was absolutely not the case for this game. It requires you to use a combination of chess-like prediction and creative problem solving which I don’t think I’ve ever encountered in a game before this one. Every level can be tackled in many different ways while still remaining surprisingly challenging.

Real player with 37.4 hrs in game

Partial control is a weird yet fascinating indie game, in which you play as a character who can only decide on their move in very specific moments (hence the name).

In this review I want to address a few specific things about the game, I might make a more full review later on or not.

Gameplay

In Partial Control, each room is a puzzle. But, not necessarily a puzzle in the traditional sense, where there’s a clear cut solution- but rather… some sort of a strange, adaptive puzzle, where you come in with an assumption and might have to change your decisions according to what happens, or if you end up failing and trying again.
