Game Guru continues to be the worst development program.

This game is notable in that it has NPCs.

The enemies shoot through walls and the ever present heartbeat of game guru continues to be annoying as hell.

Definitely avoid this.

Games set in Terminator universe are very few and far between. So franchise fans don’t have much choice, if any, and must adjust their standards accordingly. Thankfully, Terminator: Resistance shouldn’t require too much of an adjustment, as it is a competent title in its own right. Now, don’t get your hopes too high yet. This game isn’t a brilliant triple A gem of a title but rather a solid middle of the road tribute.

Terminator: Resistance is mostly carriied by its visuals, atmosphere, story and of course setting. I wouldn’t say that it is easy to recommend based on merit of its gameplay mechanics. It is a Terminator game first and foremost, and a decent one at that. But does it hold its own as just a game, its franchise notwithstanding? In my opinion not.

This game is a nice example for the lack of options between a “thumb up” and a “thumb down”. But since I had over twenty hours of fun while playing it I decided to rate it up.

I like the presentation of the dystopian city of L.A. Even if that means it’s almost complete colored grey. I really were able to dive into the story and I think the game is a nice addition to the movies. Even though you don’t meet characters from the movies with one (very short) exception.

But the game has problems. Not gamebreaking problems or any other noteworthy bugs. No the game itself is just kind of underchallenging. On the lowest difficulty your character is way to overpowered to let you feel like an inferior home defening soldier from the future. You are just the same old badass with sh*tloads of weapons and ammunition like in every other shooter out there. If you play on the highest difficulty you are a little worm getting trampled under the feet of some tin cans. This fits well in this kind of scenario but it also lowers the fun and turns the game into a stealth party with partially just unfair and annoying situations. But I think this is just a matter of taste. For the level design theres no other word than “bad”. Very often its just a bunch of (wide) tubes were you run (or crawl) from A to B and shoot stupid enemies.

I’m writing this review mostly to provide an alternative perspective to other negative reviews. Not that they are wrong, but I think that when approaching a narrative game like this it is important to recognise that other views are possible.

My overall impression at this stage (up to episode 4) is that this game is still very much in the same league as its two predecessors. This is because I feel that the plot, characters and decisions are all engaging and interesting. If you approach the story and the new characters with an open mind, and don’t expect it to be another instalment of “The Adventures of Clementine”, then I think it’s fairly easy to become invested in the decisions which you need to make. I certainly didn’t find it any easier to make most of the major decisions in this game than either of the others. All of them made me think about the impact that they would have on what would happen and how others would perceive me.

Where do I even start ?

I absolutely love the game and preordered it a long time ago, as I did with every season of The Walking Dead since I discovered what a beautiful masterpiece the first part was.

The story is as gripping and thrilling as ever - the characters are believeable and alive, you genuinly attach to them and feel towards them ; whether it’s love, sympathy, pity or hate. The choices are moving and unbelievably important irrelevant. The music is top notch, the world, the ever present feeling is danger, the constant threat and worrying about psychological state, food, ammo, dangers both from the outisde and from the inside. All those things make you contemplate on the whole point of living in a world like this, and answer one, crucial question ;

Some of the reviews for this game are allegedly fake. I am here to provide an honest review from a layperson who enjoys card games, roguelites, and roguelikes. This game is decent; however, I will hesitantly give it a thumbs down because of the lack of options. Be aware of the following… Firstly, this game needs a seizure warning; some random events cause the screen to flash in all sorts of colors. There is a lot of needless clicking; you will be clicking boxes or crates several times, providing either food, medicine, or ammo. There are no volume controls or any options, honestly. You command a fleet with the aim of capturing the enemy capital city, while fighting off enemy fleets searching for you. Fleet movement is a game of cat and mouse using a very well realised radar system, aircraft carriers, cruise missiles, intercepting enemy radio signals and much more. When two fleets meet, the game switches to tactical battle in which you directly pilot a ship and fight against the enemy. You can design individual ships in your fleet from the groundup and then use them.

The all-time best ever flying submarines in the sky game ever made. Although I have spent most of my time obsessing over ship design, “submarine airship game” is the best description for this FTL-like rogue-like UNFORGIVINGLY Difficult game I can come up with; in campaign, you spend a lot of your time trying to manage 15 different simple things (signals analysis, threat tracking, resources and fleet management, navigation, combat, landing, and then the global story/factions/political overlay of story driven decisions). The ship editor will drive you on the express train to crazytown; every. single. decision. carries huge implications for your campaigns when you start running custom ships, and this gets into the infinitely complex fleet design (what roles do you want your ships to play is critical, and the game lets you figure out your own ways to fail). This is one of my favorite games of 2021.

Inspired by classic western isometric RPGs (Fallout, Fallout 2, Arcanum), this is hardcore role playing game set in space 20 years post major conflict over asteroid mining.

  • It’s ok to fail - because there are many ways to solve every problem.

  • Completely optional combat.

Role playing

This is the most important part of the game - you can play whatever character you wish, play however you want to. You can be smooth talker, sneaky hacker or brawling bully; or something else - it’s your choice: distribute the points in character creation and make decisions when playing.

But once the character has been created, be ready for not only abilities but also limitations.

For example, characters with low CHARM value will find that often NPCs won’t even talk to them because of how repulsive they are; or speech - if low, that means you are a shy introvert, unable to initiate the dialog yourself. Lacking computer skills (scitec)? You accidentally crash terminals when trying to use them. Low tinker? Tools might break in your inept hands. Sometimes even too much is not good - too strong (PHYSICAL) and you cannot squeeze into vents thus unable to make use of some shortcuts. And so on - your character stats will signifcantly affect your gameplay style.

Multiple solutions

There are always multiple ways to solve problems (quests), usually tied to your character skills and abilities - play to your character’s strengths, work around its weaknesses. For example, if you cannot convince someone to help you, hack his computer and blackmail him. Or just straight-up pickpocket the guy - all items are always realistically placed in NPC inventories.

Note: there are usually 3-8 ways to complete a quest in the game. They can trigger related events in near future or lead to a different ending in the end slides.

Choice & Consequence

Your actions, your decisions matter to the game world. Make an enemy, you may need him/her later on. Opt for an easier solution to the current problem and you might have to deal with a bigger problem later. And in the end, you will get a unique game ending showing you the future fate of your character and those who he/she impacted through gameplay.

Non-linear world

You have an objective but how you approach it - it’s up to you; the game map is as open to you as reasonably possible (it’s a stranded spaceship after all) and there is no single true path to the end. If you know where to go, what to do - you can try to sequence break the game. Combine that with multiple solutions to every quest and you’ve got freedom to spare.

Optional but unlimited violence

You can complete the game without killing anyone. In fact, combat is completely optional. But if you want to fight - there are no immortal or “essential” NPCs - everyone everywhere has finite amount of HP and is fair game.

Turn-based combat

Game features old-school tactical turn-based combat with grid based movement, action points and dice rolls.

I wouldn’t give up on this game yet, TLT are not completely done. They have just received donation and they could get back on their feet. Not to mention the return of the Final season to stores. You just gotta have a little faith and not panic like everyone else ;)

So far, the first episode was pretty cool, it’s great to play as Clementine again in role as a protector of the young boy AJ. Feels like deja vu, but it’s completly different. You will get to meet new characters and new place. Final season comes with new stuff like:Secret achievements, collective items, but quiete interesting change is that you got camera from the right shoulder with free movenent, Just like in LIS.

(UPDATE) Episode 3: Broken Toys will release on January 15th 2019.

(UPDATE 2) On January 15th they released Episode 3 and on the 26th of March, Episode 4 released, the season overall is one of the best out of all the games, especially Episode 3 which was easily the best episode since Season 2, Episode 4 has a very cliche ending that you cant change though which brings the story impact down by quite a bit, the whole objective is to raise the kid that Clementine has devoted her life to protecting by making choices that will determine the way he is. Kill someone as to protect AJ from becoming a psychopath, or spare them but run the risk of them coming back and killing or damaging your friends. But this entire part of the game doesn’t matter by the 1 hour long epilogue, in the end they completely disregard all of your choices and in the end no matter what everybody’s AJ will be exactly the same with minor altercations depending on dialogue choices you made. But the attack or spare choices (the big ones) don’t have an effect on the ending, Season 4 has 1 ending while Season 1 had 2 and Season 2 had 4, but your choices still do matter when it comes to lives and protecting people, there’s a scene in the game which I will avoid entirely spoiling but depending on which character is with you at a certain moment the other one will be seriously injured more so than any other TWD game. They had guts and didn’t pull any punches in Episode 3 but then chickened out of multiple endings and made the ending completely fan service. Overall though I thoroughly recommend this season and it’s definitely worth a buy, the only downside is that it’s no longer on Steam and has been moved to the Epic store, if you own a console then buy it on there, (Switch, PS4, XB1) but if not you can try to find a key for steam if you don’t want to use Epic, I also believe it may be on GoG but I haven’t checked.

I saw this tagged as “sci-fi” but I don’t know if it should be categorized as that. It’s a post-apocalyptic story, but the science/technology in it isn’t fictional at all. Anyway, it’s got Mad Max: Fury Road vibes, but takes place within a setting similar to that District 13 underground city from The Hunger Games. The implication is that climate change eventually impacted the livelihood of humankind, and for some, the answer was to move into underground city shelters.

Good Stuff

  • Racial diversity. More than half of all the characters are not white.

I played Pinewood Island first and had high expectations for this one! I bought it during a sale since I couldn’t bring myself to buy it at full price!

Long story, short? I really enjoyed this game! Customization of your character was simple but I felt it added to the immersion of the game! The plot is phenomenal and I wanted to know more and more about the world we’re in! As of writing this i’ve gotten 2 out of 30 endings; 30 endings?! That’s insane but it shows how much thought went into this!

As mostly first person shooters player, i sometimes enjoy switching to less intense indie games. Ashwalkers would be one of those.

For me this game became liked a moment i saw it on store. Mostly because of character design and story setting, which is surprisingly similar to one i’ve wrote a couple of years ago. So far this is the closest thing to what could be called “dream game”.

As the gameplay is not challenging, it requires player to calculate their movements since “survival” part is taking an action. Game itself is user friendly, player just need to get used to visual narrative and simple controls.

For those looking for a game akin to the choose your own adventure books of old, Ashwalkers is phenomenal. Decisions require careful thought be put into them, and the game rewards reading into the choices and texts. Some of the choices endgame that determine the endings felt a bit arbitrary, but after having at least gone down the three main endings (that each have at least 12 permutations) twice I can say I had a fun time for the price of the game.

That game while short does its best to make the time spent feel much longer than it is between the unique art style of both the world and its inhabitants, and the survival mechanics of the game which help add a needed sense of weight to the smaller choices. I had fun carefully deliberating on if I wanted to risk losing one resources for another I was in desperate need of. On repeat runs however this meter watching quickly begin to feel monotonous.
