Cards of the Dead

Cards of the Dead

At first the game felt fine…and then it becomes clear that the only way you can progress is by brute-forcing it. There’s no strategy, there’s no cleverly using character abilities. It’s just sheer dumb luck and the deck is massively stacked against you. It didn’t become apparent until after the 2 hour mark, and the second story is absolutely infuriating in how badly it is designed in regards to gameplay. REQUIRING SERUM TO USE A GUN THAT YOU HAND OUT LIKE CANDY IS BAD WHEN YOU HAVE TO USE THAT TO SURVIVE.

The rules are simple, survive.

That being said, the game is really difficult. But, there’s pretty frequent auto-saves to help you along. If you enjoy RPG’s and are willing to play a card-game variant, give it a go. I’ve enjoyed it so far.

After an additional 5 hours, I can say that the game is still difficult. It’s a lot of trial and error, which I can appreciate as you’re really learning how to play as you go. I’ve just beaten the game and am only missing the 100% completion achievements, so that’s probably another hour or so, but overall, the game’s decently short. Personally, I’d recommend the game as it’s priced, especially for all those that love Indie games, but on sale, it’s definitely worth it!

Infinite Way

Infinite Way

Infinite Way is a deck-building roguelike in a post-apocalyptic world.

At the moment, there is no story and no quests. All you do is travel on a world map ‘til you get in a battle or find a camp.

In a camp, you can heal for water which you get after every battle. There is nothing else to do right now.

The battles are turn-based. Balance-wise it’s not in a great spot right now. The “block” cards get your armor up. They are good in the beginning but totally out of balance when you get deeper into your adventure.

Simple Roguelike with inventory management as main focus. Similar to Dungelot. Great to pick up and play. Very easy (I’m casual player).

I could possibly unlock two additional characters (with different environments?). Problem is, I don’t find a way to save my progress.

Still, very nice prologue.

Last Days of Old Earth

Last Days of Old Earth

This is a turn based strategy game that works at two levels. Most of your time will be driven on the world map where cards determine the units you can put in play. There is a little mechanic where you decide whether to spend resources you need to bring cards to try and get more action points to use them (but if your AI opponent spends more you lose them). This strategy layer is well designed but unfortunately suffers from increasingly long wait times for the AI on larger maps. The second layer is a pretty basic turn based tactics section where units lined in two rows attack each other. This gets boring pretty quickly with few decions to make. The graphics at this level are also somewhat lacklustre compared with the world maplayer which is simple but has a certain style. Sound is OK. As others have said though the real killer is lack of content; the campaign is short, wrapped in a weak narrative that drip feeds you new cards/units until the final maps. Ultimately I gave up as the game was frsutratingly slow re AI waits and there just wasn’t the scenario or card variety to keep me coming back. Not recommended due to price/better games out there to spend your time on. Eador Imperium for example gives you a ton more content and is much more involving.

Writing a review for an EA title is always tricky. The devs announced many major updates for the game in the future. Most of the time that’s a good thing, but I saw EA titles change so much on their way to release that it was not the same game I played in EA anymore.

This review is based on my own experience in the game how it’s now on EA release date.

I do not take future plans into account or features which did not excist yet.

I’m original a board game player and changed some years (20 exactly) ago to PC gaming. I still love boardgames and I love boardgames ported to PC. As long as I play games I want them as complicated as possible. I want them to be full of content and that they all have endless replay value. There is one genre I really hate and that is casual tablet gaming.

Rise of Humanity: Prologue

Rise of Humanity: Prologue

I recommend this to fans of turn based games who are cool with card based attacks. This is basically a free demo of the full version of Rise of Humanity, and it accomplished its goal of getting me interested in the full game which I have now wishlisted.

Here is what you need to know:

+High quality graphics detail, great antialiasing, as well as decent music and sound effects, but as for graphic performance…

-Ultra graphics setting @ 1440p on my RTX 3080 maxes out the GPU with an average of ~90 FPS? Its not like I can zoom out wide, so I was hoping for something a bit closer to my 165 Hz refresh rate.

Changed the audio settings aaaand… it’s gone. Completely. Reinstall did not help. I’ll probably try it later, with version 1.x. Unplayable atm.

=========

upd.: the bug was fixed fast enough, devs are surprisingly interested in feedbacks, and gameplay, nevertheless still being buggy, is promising.

I’d like to see less pointless actions in battles, like move to the shoot distance - use card - click on the single enemy instead of use the card on the enemy on click. Or drag card on yourself if this is the only option to use it - on yourself. Also planing a chain would be better imho then use cards one by one.

Zombie Strike

honestly i have only played 3hrs and that was from first login. i will be continuing as i have no reasons yet not to. consequently, this review is subject to change

the incredibly naive will quote this as a pay-to-win game, which is utter nonsense. only game i ever played (in 40 years of gaming) that falls into THAT category is zynga’s poker game which you could win actual money playing…….. as long as you were an american living in america. you can pay but you don’t win anything.

this game does NOT target your wallet……..that’s just cheap. no, this game is SO overly priced it targets your savings account :D

Atomic Cards

Atomic Cards

Some of the reviews for this game are allegedly fake. I am here to provide an honest review from a layperson who enjoys card games, roguelites, and roguelikes. This game is decent; however, I will hesitantly give it a thumbs down because of the lack of options. Be aware of the following… Firstly, this game needs a seizure warning; some random events cause the screen to flash in all sorts of colors. There is a lot of needless clicking; you will be clicking boxes or crates several times, providing either food, medicine, or ammo. There are no volume controls or any options, honestly. This is likely due to the engine used to create the game, which the developer mentioned in the community forum. (https://steamcommunity.com/app/1701140/discussions/0/2954915322322930678/ )

The game in its genre (card RPG game), in my opinion, is very good. There are many different characters, constant events and complex moral choices that will definitely not let you get bored.

DIMENSION REIGN - ROGUELIKE DECKBUILDER

DIMENSION REIGN - ROGUELIKE DECKBUILDER

The game feels a bit especially on the boss as :

  1. The boss has a large amount of hp - it is hard to combo break stun the boss.

  2. The boss can one-hit kill your heroes.

  3. With 1 & 2, it is hard to defeat the boss without taking any damage.

Hence you need higher weapons to defeat the boss

Minor user interface improvement would be great:

  1. When level up the hero the numbers should be in this order x/y where

x is the total number of orbs collected

y is the required orbs to level up

DIMENSION REIGN is a story about Karen and her brother Edge The Shadowhog who, so dissatisfied with the customer service at their local Stop N Shop, decide to go on a rampage arguing their way up through the chain of command: From disgruntled employees just trying to calm them down, to dozens and dozens of managers, to security officers trying to politely get them to leave, all the way up to the CEO of the company so that their many dozens of nonsensical, self-centered, and outright bizarre complaints can be heard.

#### What kind of game is this?

This is a zombie simulation of the end of the environment to survive the game.

The background of the game is one year after the zombie outbreak.

Players will play three different roles, searching for supplies in an abandoned hospital building to survive.

Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses, which will affect their chances of survival.

The materials in the game are displayed in the form of cards, which are mainly divided into weapons and consumables.

When fighting, random moves will be generated according to the characteristics of weapons to deal with the enemy. Weapons are durable, remember to maximize the use of weapons unique moves to win.

Players will lose their health, physical strength and spirit after fighting, moving and strengthening the room for rest.

After fighting in an empty room, remember to supplement your own state, otherwise the depressed state will bring serious negative buffs.

Finally, in addition to zombies, there may be a small number of survivors in abandoned hospitals.

They will be your companions or… Powerful and terrible enemies.
