Pool Nation
- All Racked Up -
I quite enjoy Pool Nation.
I find something soothing about it.
Of course, I’m an avowed novice (I just loves my crutches), who would rather chat and play, in a more languid sorta way, than be champ. (Though, if by some miracle, I were to become champ, it would be sooo cool.)
I mean, there’s something very gratifying about being on a 6 ball streak, while carrying on a casual conversation, with friends, about the stupid decisions the characters on Walking Dead make.
But, play on any other setting and I’d have to put on my ugly old game face and actually concentrate on each shot, and…well, I don’t wanna.

Right off the bat, one thing that will catch your attention is the variety of game types. Most billiards games like to focus only on either 8- or 9-ball. Those games are here, but they do not stop at that. Along the game, other games like Rotation and Golf are in the mix. With nine different ways currently available with Snooker and Trick coming soon, there are plenty of ways to play.
Another strong point about the game is the controls. Like in any other pool game, being able to control the cue ball is important. Most games simply allow you to aim the ball and adjust the power. Even though most games stop at this, there are more options to offer. By being able to adjust the angle of the cue stick as well as where on the cue ball to aim, it gives the option of doing jump and swerve shots, something most billiard games leave out. Additionally, with a full tutorial teaching how to do all of these moves, it does not take long before they become second nature.

Cue Club 2: Pool & Snooker
I spent many hours playing first Cue Club and I was sure it’s the best pool&snooker simulator we can find. But later I found this one on Steam.
What else can I say? Graphics is very nice. Music is cool too. I think that the physics is one of the strongest points of the game. We can feel like we were potting balls on the real table, with full control of the cue ball. We have a possibility to adjust the gameplay, in almost every aspect. Snooker on the blue table? Why not. Balls are too fast? You can try changing table speed. Every match can be different, if we want. And maybe the most important point - the game is dynamically changing. We have regular updates, which means we have more and more content, some bugs or errors quickly disappears. Bulldog Interactive makes really great work.

I have probably spent a few hundred hours playing its predecessor Cue Club, but that was almost 15 years ago and that too on a CRT monitor.
I only got like 12 hours here so far but so far it has been quite nice.
A brief comparison vis-a-vis its predecessor is present below for reference.
Better in Cue Club 2 - Game dynamics, game types, improved graphics, multiplayer, music
Better in Cue Club (older) - Cue and ball varieties, Bar system, smoke on the table
I think I will give the older one a go if I can find my iso collection. Hopefully it will run in compatibility mode.

Virtual Pool 4
The Virtual Pool franchise has been going since 1995
Vrtual Pool 4 is the latest in Celeris next installment of the series.
How to sum up Virtual Pool 4? Yes its a game, but it goes far deeper than that when you break it down into its constituents.
If you like simply to bang a few balls around against an AI player from time to time and set the game level to your specific choosing you can do so.
If however you want to develop and learn about billiards and pool in general then it also can cater to your needs.

Most realistic cuesport sim ever… and that’s what this is really; a sim.
If you’re into cuesports in any capacity this is the game for you. It has its problems, and they are being fixed albeit slowly.
Pros -
-
Almost completely realistic ball physics. Any shot you can play on a real table you can play here, apart from a few (See cons)
-
Most variations of popular cuesports available.
-
Nice online community - most players are GOOD :P
-
Will definitely help your real game, especially by watching other people play.

Thunder Spheres - Virtual Reality 3D Pool
This is a fun game that’s easy to get started with, but is challenging enough to keep you entertained (especially if you repeat levels to beat your own score). An interesting feature is that it supports local profiles, which combined with the very short levels (each one lasts 1 to 5 minutes) makes it a great party game.
The graphics aren’t triple-A level, but the overall it’s fun, immersive and has good replay value.

This game would be cool….
if it only worked properly….
I’m using an Oculus Rift. The only weapon that does any good at all is the first one, the launchable ball. The bow and arrow is almost entirely useless, as in it is a chore in order to get it to fire anything at all, and the slingshot… well, the level I got it, I tried it. The level was 100% pitch black except for the timer and I couldn’t do a damn thing.
Well, kept me entertained for about 10 minutes. Uninstalled..

Brunswick Pro Billiards
VERY AUTHENTIC, GREAT GRAPHICS, I WOULD LIKE TO TO KNOW A FEW THINGS ON THE GAME LIKE HOW MANY “SOHO POINTS” CAN YOU ACQUIRE, HOW TO FIND MORE ONLINE GAMES. OVER ALL I THINK IT IS A GREAT GAME.

I really enjoy playing this game. What I like the most about it is the fact you can play it with a controller and it is rather intuitive to use. I am a long time pocket billiards enthusiast, and in the late 90’s I actually owned a billiard hall for several years. Brunswick tables in my opinion are the best tables made, and I find that this game does them justice as well. Currently as of writing this there is not a ton of online players but still there is plenty to do in the game like getting Brunswick bucks toward other in-game purchases. Personally I am very impressed!

Carom Billiards
This game is not a finished product not even close! Balls inside cushions, the hardest shot will barely make a three cushion shot, not that anything like three cushion is supported.

Terrible. Can’t play with others. Glitchy and terrible controls. Do not buy.

Casual Challenge Players Club is a very simple, classic arcade style pool game. Remember back in the day when you would go to the local fare with your parents, and you would have the little arcade with the 2P Pusher machines, those mechanical horse racing games, and an assortment of fruit machines and arcade games. Well, you will also remember that there was always super simple pool game arcade machine. Well this is basically like that.
There are 4 game modes, 2 modes for single player and 2 modes for multiplayer.

Legends of Snooker: One Shot
Nice game, unfortunately the game connects to external servers (non Steam), which is strange considering the game is has no leaderboards or online play!!! what is the meaning of these connections?
Also the games folder contains server configuration files with strings such as:
Mainsoft.Web.Security" applicationName="/" connectionStringName="LocalSqlServer"
channel id="tcp server" type="System.Runtime.Remoting.Channels.Tcp.TcpServerChannel, System.Runtime.Remoting
add type="System.Net.NtlmClient, System, Version=4.0.0.0

International Snooker
I have been playing the game International Snooker 2012 for the past 3 months. This game is really so close to the real thing that is unbelievable. Unfortunately, a lot of flaws still exists in the game. I have found the AI players to lack vision in certain respects, some are programmed to be over 100% which makes them impossible to beat. They can also sometimes make the strangest shot selections and are very limited when snookered close behind another ball.
My biggest criticism of this game lays in the multiplayer. It does not show all the names of players entering and also tend to lose connection at awkard times.

It’s not quite a simulation but it’s lots of fun. Having said that I’m getting breaks just above the 50 mark which is exactly how I fare in the real game. I like the career mode with the easy early rounds and then tough opponents later on. The AI is OK. Let’s face it the computer could play a perfect game every time so it has to be dumbed down, mostly you don’t notice. Sometimes it reminds me of early games with my Dad, when he would throw a few shots so I could get some table time. Cue ball action is a little unpredictable but you can mostly get the position you were aiming for.

Pool Nation FX Lite
I think the most important answer hidden in reviews
of Early Access games is the answer to the question:
“Is this game worth of buying at this stage of
development?” In my Early Access review of
Pool Nation FX I’ll try to convince you that in this
case the choice is easier like never before in the
whole Early Access games history.
LOVE POOL…
The pool love story all begun in the biblical Garden
of Eden where Adam and Eve were happily potting
under a cherry tree very first balls. Yes, it was all

Lazy Dev, Broken Game, Broken Promises
Don’t bother with leagues. You get 1 loss recorded for every game you enter and 3 losses per loss. It’s completely unplayable. The dev doesn’t care and won’t admit anything.
Don’t bother with snooker. The physics are broken, and the shot guide doesn’t work. Again, the dev doesn’t care.
Don’t bother reading the forums. Every bug somebody posts is taken down and replaced with praise from brand new accounts.
Don’t bother playing the “for cash” games. The game takes your currency, then doesn’t pay out when you win. The dev won’t admit this issue, even though it’s all over the forums.
