Time’s Up in Tiny Town

Time’s Up in Tiny Town

Time’s Up in Tiny Town is a fast-paced simulation game, in which you will build a town for a pocket-sized world.

As mayor and founder of Tiny Town, construct buildings, collect food and house as many townsfolk as possible. You will score points on how large your population grows but also on how sustainable your town is at the end of your mandate.

In Tiny Town, the more you build, the more land you acquire. And the faster your population grows, the more time you are afforded.

But be sure to balance-out your production, your population’s needs and your world’s natural resources. Because if your environment collapses, so may your townsfolk know deprivation and famine!

The Political Machine 2020

I played a few rounds of this game, some multiplayer, some singleplayer. Overall, I really enjoyed this game for what it was worth. The game is charming, in a humorous way. I really enjoyed the ideology system, and how it influences and reshapes the race depending on candidates are in on the race. My friend and I made some custom candidates, did stupid matchups, and we had a lot of fun just pushing the ideologies to their limit. Some of the ideologies, like fascism or giant meteorism, just end up shooting you in the foot, and its amusing to see races devolve into stupid fights between two godawful candidates.

This game needs a LOT of work, and with it now being over six months from launch I doubt that’s happening. It seems more time and resources were put into releasing the “Founding Fathers DLC” then going back and finishing their original broken product.

Perhaps the most glaring issue is that this product seems to have been made purely off some designers intuitive bias rather than any actual polling data. Universal healthcare and universal basic income are unpopular with “independents” but “Build the Wall” is. It also lists Trump’s intelligence as “smart” while Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s intelligence as dim, despite placing second in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair while in High School, being bilingual, and graduating cum laude from Boston University with a bachelors in both international relations and economics. Meanwhile the geniuses that built the game have the same issue “farm subsidies” listed twice in the policy management tab, as well as a few spelling errors.

Worth it if it’s on sale, it’s very short but good. The translation is weak at times, which can make it confusing what decision you are supposed to be making. Also the mouse cursor freezes/lags if you move it faster than a snails pace but you can’t enable hardware cursor or the game doesn’t even start. Maybe just my rig.

One thing that is poorly translated that I wish I knew before playing: on the map where you exchange resources with other towns is a number in very large font that says “the party has given you an order, X days til dispatch”. It means the party is requesting that number of metal from your town and you want to have it on hand when it reaches “0 days til dispatch” then it will be subtracted overnight. Dispatch as in you are sending the metal to the party. I spent a few hours experimenting with save scumming just to figure this out, thinking it was a bug and my resources were just disappearing!

IN A WORD: MAYBE

IN A NUTSHELL:

WHAT TO EXPECT: Stylised visual novel. Narration oriented Choose Your Own Adventure. Heavily scripted story. Bureaucratic simulation. Aspects of social management. Laced with political intrigue. Communist/Coldwar era aesthetic/ambience. Contains several endings. Designed for some replayability. Requires lots of reading. Single-player only.

ACHIEVEMENTS: A GOOD MIX.

STATUS: COMPLETED.

WHO FOR/WHEN TO BUY: FOR FANS OF THE SUBJECT MATTER. A MINIMAL SALE AT LEAST.

Not For Broadcast: Prologue

Wow! This game has some of the best potential I’ve seen in a game for a while now. I think this is coming from a standpoint that I have experienced working a tri-caster in college, but so far, its a really great story.

I think one thing I would like to see is being able to sabotage the broadcast a bit more than just losing viewers. Like for example, I would like to see some sort of scandal be released the next day or mission because we the player decided to show off some of the colorful behavior the actor shows to the his staff and the TV studio staff. I would also find it funny that during the press conference, that when you go to camera 1 where the staff is gathered watching, it would be funny if there was some sort of reaction.

“Papers Please 2 : Media Control”

seriously. similar premise. do “boring-workstuff” in an “oppressive” place. reminds me instantly of that. But the good news is, this game is feels pretty fresh. Mainly because of the animations and better pixels, in comparison to the game I mentioned.

ok so since this is just a demo, i guess it’s better to write a feedback than reviewing the good points. But i’ll do both anyways.

(+) First, the gameplay is actually pretty interesting (read=multitasking-challenge). There’s quite a few mechanics in here, and even though this is just the demo I really got the pressure I thought I would. It might even be slightly more pressure than I expected. Guess I’ll explain what you DO, at least, in the demo:

The game is pretty fun with little naive jokes. I especially loved the characters on the front page. I hope they all become available soon. It’s kind of addictive tho

Pandemic: The Virus Outbreak

The Idea used for making this game is good but it needed more substance, the game is already over when started and there are no notes of what each of the percentages do in each tab, at least you have written the rate of increase in the right hand format and total increase in left hand format for more clarification. Anyway this game doesn’t have much of an understanding to the impact of virus in world since after 10% infection rate you will become a criminal of Humanity. This game has potential so develop it more. That’s all i have to say.

Real player with 0.6 hrs in game

i think the developer of this game is biased when it comes to the current real life situation when it comes to closing down the government because it is impossible to win if you decide to no shut down anything no matter how much propaganda you use how can you go form a hospital capacity of only 19% full too 124% full if you accept the donation to ease the work load of your hospitals and everything is 10 dollars form vaccine development too growing your hospital capacity and propaganda which would be fine if you didn’t start the game with only 40 dollars and make getting money very slow no matter how much your economy grows if you choose not to shut down and with an unemployment rate of 0% and if you choose not to close the economy in the pop up and ignore the WHO you lose almost immediately and this is when the infection rate is less then 1% in your country this is like playing a political simulator game where you can chose which party to play as but if you didn’t chose the party of the developer no matter what you do as the opposing government party you cant win unless the unbalancing changes when you chose not to shut down everything my review wont change

The HeartBeat

The HeartBeat

Despite being a really short game, I like this one.

Your artificial heart gives you just enough time to answer your secretary’s questions before it gives out, and depending on your answers, you can get a handful of different endings that either save or doom your city. The main goal is to stop the Coro- sorry, Prion virus from spreading, but you can get some interesting different final results based on your choices. Aside from answering questions, the gameplay is mostly rhythm-based, pumping your heart in time to the beat of the music to stay alive just a few more minutes. After a while this intensifies and the meter starts draining faster, and if you hit 0%, it’s game over and back to the beginning.

Above the Fold

Above the Fold

Full Disclosure- I got my key at no cost, from the developer, to playtest the game, from Alpha 4 on.

This in no way affects my review of the game. If it sucked, I would be brutally honest about it. I call then like I see them.

Okay, that said, up there ^^^…

I don’t really tend to enjoy manangement sim games, I usually find them too simple, shallow, or just plain uninteresting.

This game is different. It may be because I have been inside, watching it evolve (and will continue to do so through Early Access, and beyond…), but this game has depth. The subject matter, a paper print newspaper from the 1980’s- (when I was a teen and young adult) is very relatable for me. The game is still in development, but it already very rich with details that hold your interest, tension that makes you hustle and make snap decisions, humor that pops up and relieves some of the tension, in a very silly way, and more challenge than I expected. I like challenge.

Its very early and developed by one person with a budget smaller then my allowance during all 4 years of high school combined. That probably isn’t true though.

Anyway, this game is a gem, and will be a gem in the future.

Yes, turn your music off asap or adjust using your systems audio mixer, that is a bit of feedback that can be acted on.

At the core this game is charming, you have a deadline you need to meet, an owner that can get angry with you, but also praise you. I imagine it is as similar to managing a news paper in the late 90’s was, and a news website today is. This is after all a simulation.

Entertaining, comprehensive, and educational game, though it’s underdeveloped. It has potential to be great, but needs some more work to get there. I recommend it if it’s cheap, but I ask the creator(s) to improve this game, or they won’t get better ratings.

Basically, there’s a reason this game has “mixed” reviews, but it’s still a good game.
