“If on a Winter’s night, a traveler” is a novel by Italo Calvino and possibly one of the greatest italian literary works published in the last two centuries. Each chapter consists of the beginning of a new novel, in a search for the pleasure of reading.

Red Embrace: Mezzanine is a short (~1 hour or even less) free visual novel with point-&click elements, 2 endings rewarded with 2 achs. Unfortunately, for now the game has limited features, so those achs won’t appear on steam profile((
I’m sure even if someone didn’t play Red Embrace or Red Embrace: Hollywood the game will be interesting enough. I have almost nothing to complain about: visuals are great, music is perfect to set that gloomy mood, the writing is so potent dragging you deep into that dark atmosphere. That’s really amazing how that short story, maybe not even the whole story but some kind of prologue for the future game, can awake such powerful emotions. Really impressive!

As usual, fine. As usual, there is a light sadness after passing the game. And not only because the story itself is sad, because it concerns loneliness, loss and hopelessness, but because it shows us what we dream about at some point. We all probably dreamed that on some day someone (and preferably some handsome guy) would offer us to change our lives. But this did not happen.
It’s very nice that the story echoes Red Embrace: Hollywood. I am very glad that I somehow found Argent Games.

И не только потому, что сама история печальна, ведь она касается одиночества, потери и безнадежности, но и потому, что она показывает нам, о чем мы мечтаем в какой-то момент. Мы все, наверное, мечтали, что когда-нибудь кто-нибудь (и желательно какой-нибудь красавчик) предложит нам изменить нашу жизнь. Но этого не произошло.

Tormentum - Dark Sorrow
This game is dark, despondent, despairing and depending on how one defines horror, it could be that too. A point and click not so adventurous “adventure” game. (Adventure because it does fall into any other catergory, not really, other then maybe supernatural. But even that would be a stretch.) Has a moralistic tone of more right vs wrong, then good vs evil.
Story: The condemned arrives with a fellow prisoner at a castle specifically designed for torture, torment, and purging souls of their evil through pain, suffering, and grief. (Dark, very dark, in tone.) The condemned man is told this in his jail cell by the horned guard, who also informs the condemned man he (the guard) will back to torture him. Of course, the condemned man does not wait around for that. This begins the journey through the Hell-bound castle, and meeting its various denizans. After that it is a trip though the wastelands, dealing with the inhabitants, and eventually to the condemned man’s goal, a structure of uprised arms with a shrouded female statue inside. Ethical choices are made throughout, in the simply question kill or not kill.

The game comes from a seriously engaging and tasteful angle despite this, and everything is done in a fictionally compelling way that serves the narrative and not just for the sake of shock. The core element in Tormentum is atmosphere, and its surreal influences show to the very root.

Bear With Me - Episode One
Well, for some reasons I played this game many months ago, more than a year, and then the third episode came out few months ago so I bought it as soon as possible and played it, enjoyed it a lot and so on.. now the collector’s edition’s out on Humble Bundle as far as I know.
Anyways this game’s is a great hidden object/graphic adventure with an awesome story; I loved everything here although the whole game setting is probably too restricted thus don’t allowing you to explore as much as I wanted to.

Ladies and gentlemen, this is a clawsome game that is impawsible to furget. Having a charming yet grizzly atmosphere that you won’t find too polarizing, I just couldn’t bear to put it down.

Ahem, so ‘Bear with Me’ is an episodic point and click game with a heavy noir detective theme. But you know that from reading the description, and really if you’re interested by that idea then you’re probably going to enjoy this game. Yet if you’re still a bit sceptical then let me assure you, it is worth the time to go through.

This seems like a decent game, but the puzzles are terrible and there isn’t much guidance otherwise. Unless you love scratching your head with very little story, I would skip this one.

However, one thing puzzles him the most: the characters he encounters tell him about a god who lives on one of the most remote islands. About a god who has never been in his game, which he himself has not created.
Players will be able to get to know the huge dark world stretching to several islands. Full of secrets and rich in various creatures. In order to find his way home and find a mysterious god along the way, the protagonist will have to travel through a vast land, which will consist of more than 130 locations - twice as many as in the first part of the adventure.
While wandering around the world, players will encounter situations in which game developers will question their conscience, forcing them to make often ambiguous decisions affecting the fate of the characters they meet. Thanks to such a procedure, the linearity of the game will be disturbed, which will enable more than one ending, depending on the choices made by the protagonist.
The unique atmosphere accompanying the game will be emphasized by a unique musical setting, this time enriched with metal sounds.
Bulb Boy
Bulb Boy is a horror/point and click game. Bulb Boy’s house is invaded by a monstrosity corrupting everything. The aim is to save his family while surviving the encounters, which are actually quite dynamic for a point’n’click. It is possible to die, but the checkpoints are very frequent so no real loss or frustration. What I found amazing was the diversity in the scenes and interactions. Everything plays differently, and it is very refreshing. Sadly, this also means that the game is quite short (2-3h).

Gameplay
Bulb Boy is a point-and-click adventure game. The gameplay is pretty simple with some twisted puzzles. It reminds me alot of one of my favorite games of all time Machinarium with its dark humor. The puzzles are never too difficult, and it appeals to a more mainstream audience. The game is very short, but a memorable horror game. The darkness has taking over your home and they kidnapped your grandpa. Your job is to fight back and reclaim what is yours. It is heartwarming story.
