Mira’s Brush

Mira’s Brush

Cute, colorful, and full of lighthearted humor. I had a little trouble getting a feel for the color-swapping mechanics, but other than that, I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played so far. Looking forward to seeing how the game develops as it gets close to full release.

Mira’s Brush is a colorful take on the side-scrolling pixel-art platforming genre, a genre that defined early video games and has persisted through the years. The basic idea is that all the color has been stolen from Chromaland which is now greyscale and it is up to Mira and her brush to restore color. You can steal colors and paint and do a host of different shapes and colors to defeat or blend enemies. Sadly it is marred by clunky gameplay and tutorial and clunky menus.

The platforming aspect of the game is pretty icy and takes some frustrating moments getting used to. I found it difficult to jump high enough sometimes and it really takes more technique to get on to stuff but it is manageable, but it should be like 10% higher. The tutorial floating text is terribly placed and floats off screen and is difficult to see. Sometimes matching enemies to the background does not work.

I’m an older gamer going back to Atari 2600 and C-64, but I have never really played a lot of Sega games back in the day. My first Sega console in fact was the Dreamcast, and only one of my friends at the time even had a Genesis (Megadrive).

It was an end of life release for the console, so I guess not many have played it until the re-releases. So, this release of Ristar is my first experience with the game. So far I have only played the first few levels (playtime is incorrect) and would recommend this game today if you like platformers. I suggest watching the following video, it has a lot of info on the background of the game as well as a gameplay commentary and demo.

Shipwreck Escape

Shipwreck Escape

So I wrote a review around half way through the game. Im new to reviews and wanted to edit mine now that I finished the game.

The game itself is fun. Some levels feel super easy and come to you right away while other levels take some time and “trial and error” before you understand what needs to be done. There are multiple endings so if you want to at the end you can go through again just to unlock these different endings. For me it took about 9 hours to complete but being a puzzle game, some probably could do it much quicker!

Shipwreck Escape:

What would be the perfect job? Well, a position where you can make good money without working too hard, meet people who have a purse or a wallet overflowing with $100 notes or an uncapped credit card and to top it off, travel the world. It's your lucky day! Your application for a croupier on the luxury ship, the Antaraxia, has been accepted! And your first cruise is from Athens to Dubai! Everything was running as smoothly as the last few days, until . . . You woke up with a pounding headache, blood running off your face, torn clothes and covered with debris, three decks below the casino level where you were working! You quickly realised by smelling smoke and hearing the water that something went terribly wrong on the Antaraxia! The only way out is up! Good luck in Shipwreck Escape.

A small game with cute graphics and sounds, The gameplay is simple and quite frantic. Everything looks solid on the technical side.

## Larger Than Light

Quite a shorty of a indie game, and it does feel a bit like a school project tbf, but nevertheless with its interesting puzzle mechanic that i would have loved to see more of, lit character design (hehe) and some wholesome family bonding i would give a recommend for it.

## Lion Quest

Ive managed to sink hours into this game without noticing it! The sound track and colours really draw you in! Lion quest is a charming and vibrant platformer with a lot of exploration to do. The levels are huge!

The multiplayer is a lot of fun with friends, and has a simplified and refined smash brothers feel to it. Lots of characters to unlock and one or two of them change the gameplay significantly which lets you replay the levels and find new things. The puzzles where you are controlling two characters at the same time are really cool, and the mind control effect was a nice surprise.

I picked up this game through the Yogscast Humble Bundle around December 2017, but never got around to playing it. When the Steam Spring Cleaning Event came around, this game popped up as a game to complete the event, so here we are.

When you first see the graphics, they look very simple (think Atari 2600), but that's part of the fun. Although the graphics are simple, someone put a lot of effort into building fun complicated levels to play through. The game is a platformer and worked fine under Linux with an XBox 360 controller. The levels take just enough effort to be fun without becoming so painful that you would give up in frustration. Some of the X levels were a little more painful, at times, cruel, but still fun. You can complete the game with multiple characters if you choose. You start out with Jethro the Lion, and then can unlock, or purchase via the coins you collect, other characters which have better jumping or speed. I played through the 1-9 levels and the X levels, but probably don't have the patience to keep playing through with the other characters. Overall, good for a few hours of fun though.
