Dead Cells

Dead Cells

Heartily recommend this game to anyone who’s got the time - you’re likely to want to spend your entire days playing once you’re on a roll! The visuals and animations are outstanding - a unique one for nearly every weapon or skill available, lots of fun ways to customise your combat style, very enjoyable and fitting soundtrack, an engaging story that keeps you fighting even if just to see more lore, always a new challenge, something to up the difficulty; and the constant updates that only bring more to explore! On top of all that there are tons of hilarious little interactions between the player character and the world. Truly, the love shines through.

I took my time reviewing this for some reason, but dead cells is by far one of my favorite roguelites/likes if not my favorite. The way it plays can be sooo fast pace and clean, the music is top tier, sound is top tier, area design also top tier, the game as a whole is just really well made. Although the Boss Cell aspect gets a little repetitive, the satisfaction of beating that final one was immense and felt so rewarding. I definitely recommend to any new or veteran roguelite player

Overall Verdict: Full Price? Yes, but actually No. The “Complete Experience” only comes with the Between Dimensions DLC, and I HIGHLY recommend you only grab that on sale/as part of a discounted bundle. It’s a pretty 50/50 DLC.

As of April 2020, Steam Cloud Saving is still not enabled. EGS has had this since July 2019 - it’s a developer choice, not Steam’s, to enable this for the platform. I’m sad this was a broken promise from pre-launch 2017.

Moonlighter is a fun game where you have to kill monsters and loot their treasure from other dimensions to sell it in your little store, It is challenging and well executed.

It is a single player experience with a little town, You can upgrade the town and with this new NPCs will come, They sell equipment, weapons, Store furniture that boosts different things, Rare lootables to upgrade faster against a price or Potions, There is also a banker which allows you to invest money, But you can only invest for 7 days, So if you do not make a profit in that time you lose money.

TL;DR This game is a mix of Noita and Rogue Legacy, very fun if you’re on a budget :)

I feel like I got off on the wrong foot with this game. Originally, the game didn’t work at all for me which led me to leaving a negative review (Initial Review can be found below) and also refunding the game. The developer then got back to me within a few hours of my review telling me that he had updated the game.

All excited I decided to purchase the game again and give it a second try. All the issues I had previously mentioned, were gone. I played a couple of games and had a lot of fun. The enemies were neat, the room layouts looked fairly unique and the particle effects were really good. I played a total of 5 runs (Including the tutorial).

Last week I bought the original Alchemic Dungeons on 3DS. Then just yesterday I found out this came out and bought it immediately. It is challenging and fair. Every time I died it was because I screwed up and didn’t use the right tactic. I love this game and I plan on playing it many many hours.

Criminally underrated game.

While it looks simple and generic and starts very easy, the final 3 dungeons offer a good challenge. While it seems like a relatively generic roguelike, the crafting system does add a lot of depth to resource management, and while it looks simplistic it will keep you on your toes. I also think the UI is reallly good and easy to sue when you get used to it .

It also has a lot of distinct classes (8 initially with a secret one to)

Aternia: Deep

Aternia: Deep

Aternia: Deep – a successor to immortal genres of roguelike and hack & slash. Take on a role of the Protagonist, imprisoned in an ancient dungeon’s Depths. You are going to have to use all the arsenal of weapons and abilities at your disposal to finally reach the surface and your beautiful homeland, Aternia.

Enemies – mines and dungeon halls, once abandoned, are now inhabited by hungry vicious monsters that do not belong on the surface. Your arrival will not go unnoticed.

Dungeon – multilevel ruins, built by a long dead civilization, and its lost artifacts will tell you the story of the place – if you are able to find them. You can explore the levels deeper, learning how all of this started in the first place. Perhaps, you can even shed some light onto the Protagonist’s own past?

Dangers – monsters are not the only thing dwelling here. Uncontrolled surges of magic change the surroundings and make you follow the ever-changing rules of the dungeon. If you want to get out, that is.

Storyline – Nothing matters more to our hero than reaching his home. Constantly be on the hunt for better gear and spells, for the closer you goal is, the greater the danger.

Usually you would look at the one dollar price and make an assumption of the bad quality of the game.

Well, this game can have a lot of more features. But the selling point is that it does good with what it has.

Story wise, you just blitz through the levels, upgrade your weapons, defeat the weak boss and save your sister. Nothing much there.

But you’ll see some attention to details -

  • The monsters of this game are smarter than your usual top-down

  • Your screen is your vision range. Enemies off-screen can fire at you, and you can attack them too (fire where the laser sight is coming from)

Just found this game by pure accident, and I am glad that I did!

These developers are way underselling this super fun little indie gem for just 99 cents when I feel it offers plenty of value and replay value to warrant a $10 price tag!

Watch my “First Play Impressions Video” right HERE:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4A2ABr6LxA&feature=youtu.be

While this game has a couple of minor little bugs, it still scored an impressive 95% score using my unique scoring system which grades indie games more on value and fun that it does graphics. Because of the high score and my recent discovery of this amazing little game, I started a whole new series on my YT channel called" Discovered Hidden Gem!" just for games like this one here!

After a whole 1000 hours of playing this game, I think it’s time that I should write my thoughts about it. I’m gonna be listing some strengths and weaknesses of this game and the severity is determined by the amount of +’s or -’s, up to 3. I’ll state a solution for any problem I have if I can think of one. Also, spoiler warning. If you don’t want to get spoiled, just skip to the bottom of this review.

+++Nearly limitless replayability. I’ve managed to stick with this game for 1000 hours because it keeps putting me in unique scenarios, despite the level generation variety not being great. Not only are there a lot of builds but the gear is so random that you’ll be getting very different stat spreads and equipment perks to use at various points in the game.

Real player with 1053.4 hrs in game

This is a beautiful little game. It’s deceptively simple but almost impossible to master, and with enough complexity that it has extraordinary replayability. The different character classes are all unique with their own starting equipment, stats, and abilities, which allows for a wide variety of play styles. Want to run around all the enemies and attack from a distance? Be an acrobatic rogue and roll, jump, and climb around to your hearts content. Want to just brute force melee everything? Be a berserker wildling and solve all of your problems with fists. Finding a method that works for you is important because the game can be mind numbingly difficult.

BulletGarden

BulletGarden

Reviewing for J-Indie Arcade: Bullet Garden is a roguelite vertical STG with random enemy waves and around 300 weapons. The game has a a lot of style from the red and white graphics, weapons that add rhythm to the soundtrack and the wide range of weapon display and design. Mission Mode helps you get used to the weapons and gameplay as well as giving you seeds to unlock new weapons. Set up your unlocked weapons in 5 different custom power-up loadouts and go for an endless score attack. If you go in expecting a typical STG, you will be frustrated by the randomness and auto-fire, but as a roguelite, it’s great for short sessions, but with enough depth to keep coming back.

Really fun vertical shooter with a simple pixel art aesthetic. Entirely focused around the huge variety of weapons, which have impressively different effects or looks, like cats which leave pawprints or bombs which rain from the top. You can play a mission mode comprised of fixed objectives with determined loadouts, or an endless score attack mode using loadouts you customize yourself. To earn the weapons for your customized loadout, you do gacha pulls (the “planter”) using a meta-currency you obtain from defeated enemies.
