Lofi Ping Pong

Lofi Ping Pong

Lo-Fi Ping Pong is a rythmic game, where you listening Lo-Fi music and beat your oppenent at the end of the song.

What really good in Lo-Fi Ping Pong, is the controls. It’s easy. You need 3 keys, which can be WAD, the arrow keys or using controller direction keys. Because of these choices, playing together in splitscreen is also easy, because you could play in one keyboard too. Simple and sweet!

Another thing which surprising good, is the story. Now, if you play the game, you won’t notice too much… except at the end, but the game has some more meaning symbols in the game, messages can tell also a lot about what is happening. It was quite a twist for me at the end, left me with a void for sure, even though it’s not an indepth something, it was still quite an impact.

Since I do enjoy listening to lo-fi, this title caught my attention, so I decided to purchase during the Steam Sale just to see what it was all about.

Well then, you take control of this girl and you play against other players wearing animal masks, something that immediately made me think about Hotline Miami (just checked the developer, and even though it has nothing to do with Dennaton, I’m pretty sure that they’ve got some influence out of it). i’m not really sure if there’s a story or not, but overall, the girl is dealing with some problems and playing ping-pong, while listening to some sick beats seems to be helping her somehow.

BEST GAME OF 2021!

Hitting notes on the 7th beat never felt more satisfying.

(And sometimes in other patterns)

Custom levels add great replay value, I’ve probably spent more time on those than in the main campaign.

10/10 IGN would play again

Conga Master

Every new congo session game starts off slow then soon enough you will have 30+ people in your conga line, sucking everyone else in around you which is very satisfying. Music is also enjoyable; some more than others.

Looks like it’s only local multiplayer. I cannot find a way to play online multiplayer. There is however an online leaderboard.

Solid game and gets pretty difficult in Story mode. Cost me £7.99

I was following the developing of this game closely and it’s finally released! Ludum Dare sometimes gives you amazing surprises ;)

Seems like an easy gameplay, but it’s hard to master it. Don’t be fooled by the cute pixel art and voices. I need to play it with some friends to really enjoy the game fully. We will see.

Rhythm of the Gods

Rhythm of the Gods

For $9 it’s an alright game. The music and graphics are quite charming but there aren’t many levels and half of the songs are remixes. The story can be boiled down to some young gods throwing parties because it’s what they love to do. The difficulty scales pretty fast but at no point does it feel like an unreasonable jump in difficulty from one song to the next. There is an endless mode and a timewarp mode that adds a speed multiplier to the songs for added difficulty so in that regard it’s a good game if you want something challenging. The ending leads me to believe the developers might release more games in the series but that’s just speculation until proven otherwise.

A Great, But Rather Short Rhythm Adventure

Rhythm of the Gods, as you can probably tell from the title, is a rhythm game where you have to make your way through a slew of enemies and obstacles while following the music of several different gods that you meet along the protagonist, Lyrik’s, journey.

The Good

-Although short, the story of the game is rather charming, and I liked reading through the dialogue the game had to offer.

-The gameplay is simple, but can be very challenging depending on what difficulty you set.

Come in! Nightclub with neon Rhythm Story sign. Music and fun give way to screams. The corpse of the girl was found in the toilet. Panic. The detective is ready. What evidence is there? What is the motive? An atmospheric rhythm adventure with a deep storyline.

Mei and Rei have been best friends since childhood, but recently Rei began to go somewhere every evening, and return in the morning. She used to have problems with the law, but May hoped that was in the past. They started going to the Rhythm Story nightclub and everything was fine …

Until one of the girls was found dead there

The detective will get down to business to understand what is really going on in their city

This project is a cross between Rhythm Doctor and Night in the Woods in the manner of storytelling. You have to not only solve the case, but also protect the criminal

I love chiptunes, and I love rhythm games. This giant turd gives a bad name to both.

There are 13 songs, and they’re all musically mediocre or better, some are quite good, but musically only.

I beat all 13 songs at least once and it didn’t unlock anything new, so I guess that’s it.

The gameplay both in terms of rhythm game, and general fun, is complete garbage, as is the UI. Even if you’re passing all notes perfectly, the off-timed bloops of hitting the notes (successfully) makes the song sound shitty compared to hearing it on its own.

Pretty well done Stepmania/Osu! -like rhytm game with amazing chiptune music (and great UX/graphics to go along with it). Right now the major downside is a lack of an editor/composer for custom tracks, as the “standard” library is pretty limited, and I’m pretty sure the community would do wonders in this regard.

Some other minor nitpicks I noticed:

  • The game doesn’t remember the last song played when returning back to the song picker, and jumps back at the beginning of the list. This is not a big deal right now, but might become one when the library grows.

Chiptune Champion

What is the game?

Chiptune Champion is a rhythm game (similar to Guitar Hero/Rock band) that is based around Chiptune music. The game relies on you using the numbers keys (or whatever keys you choose to bind) to hit the notes as they approach you on the board. There are two modes within the game, one requiring you to strum and the other not. These two modes have different rules, however, as in strum mode you can hold down other notes while playing the current note and in the non-strum mode, you cannot.

EDIT 1: They now allow for tempos with two decimal points, so that’s a plus. Original review is below:

I’m loving this game thus far, but I’d advise others to wait until a patch or a few. The mechanics work well, at least for me, and the addition of being able to chart whatever songs you want, and upload them to the Workshop, is really promising (note though that this feature only uploads the chart itself, anyone who subscribes is required to locate their own audio). And I myself dig the soundtrack; chiptune isn’t everyone’s thing, though, so take that with a grain of salt. The note charts are also fun and challenging; if you’re like me, and can pass most songs on Guitar Hero and Rock Band with flying colors, then this game has you covered with fun charts.

BottomLine at the Top: A remake of a MAGS (Monthly Adventure Game Studio) 2016 submission, this is a short but sweet retro style P&C game with a sci-fi story and a few difficult puzzles.

Pros

–———————————–

-Has kind of an SCP feel to it.

-Started right up. No setup headaches.

-Good quality voice acting.

-Atmospheric music.

-Free!

Meh.

-Using the music calming button to listen to music while the main game music is playing in the background is weird.

GNRBLEX is a game where you play a scientist who must get two creatures to mate so you can prevent them from going extinct. This game is very reminiscent of the old point and click games that I played way too many of as a kid but was a lot of fun to play. Some of the puzzle solutions are a bit convoluted but none of them felt unfair. It really requires players to keep their eyes open for anything and read everything very carefully. This game was a lot of fun to play and I highly recommend to people who grew up on point and click browser games like I did.

Partitas

I’ve never been trained in music, though it is something I’ve always wanted to pursue. When it comes to reading music, all I know is FACE – the blank spaces on the treble clef (top section of score), from bottom to top, house the notes F, A, C, and E, and from there I just count for the other notes.

While you can technically play this game without any knowledge of music whatsoever (it’s just dragging and dropping notes and there is no penalty for wrong answers), I don’t think someone without an interest in learning about music would have much fun. Maybe if the notes in the score could be clicked to hear the individual notes, or the notes in the score could be changed to display the letter, someone without any experience could more easily suss out the correct note properly. But without any help, I think it’d be too tempting for many to just brute force it and drag each note until one works.

Real player with 4.2 hrs in game

This is a solid and low-stress music theory game that is really nothing else than filling in missing music notation. Each song has a handful of missing notes and there’s no timers or mistake penalties or anything like that. It has a nice wide range of classical, baroque, and even some early Romantic. Nothing contemporary so John Cage fans are out of luck but that would be pretty weird, all things considered.

You can only pause or restart the loop and not quite work it like a proper DAW but for a .99 game clearly made with love, this is a silly criticism on my part. If you have even a slight interest in musical notation or classical music, this is a great way to drop 99 cents on Steam.

Dashy Square

Dashy Square

Kinda hard to say if I wanna recommend this game or not.

I bought Dashy Square cheap on sale a few years back, just because it looked like a fun platformer.

Now, I’ve spent countless hours in Geometry Dash, and you can say, apart from the graphics and a few game mechanics this game isn’t really anything different.

Worst thing about Dashy Square: annoyingly weird hitboxes that feel kinda random sometimes. If you’re going for 100%, good luck on the harder levels.

In conclusion: if you like Geometry Dash and the Impossible Game, you’re gonna have a few hours of fun with this, but don’t expect too much.

Given the success of Geometry Dash and The Impossible Game this specific subgenre of simplistic action, arcade platformer indie games have become increasingly popular. They are relatively simple to design and so many people believe that they have what it takes to develop one – thinking that not much skill is involved in their game design and implementation. However, for every game that we succeed we see many more fail to come close to delivering a cohesive and enjoyable gaming experience. Thankfully Kastriot Sulejmani is an intelligent game designer and has developed a game in Dashy Square that is not only cohesive and enjoyable but also difficult – which a very deft touch and in my opinion an important one – and addictive.
