This game is not “good.” It has an extremely high learning curve, no tutorial, a clunky interface, poorly laid out and unintuitive quest objectives, sub-par writing, semi-frequent crashes, and is heavily dependent on the community “Combined Mod” to smooth out its rough edges.

That said, it is the best pure Pirate RPG available. But that probably says more about the gaping hole that exists in the market and less about this game itself. Aside from the brief but very welcome tangent that the Assassin’s Creed franchise took with Black Flag we have not seen a good single player pirate RPG in a long time; probably since Sid Meier’s Pirates. So if you need your pirate fix and are willing to take the time to learn this game, then you will be satisfied. But I can’t help but wonder why we haven’t seen a better Pirate game made.

Sail and Sacrifice

This game has some amazing potential, but as it is now it is broken.

to many gamebreaking bugs.

1: i cant exchange wepons with my recruits.

2: cant recruit when disarming people have to run after them across the world and MAYBE i get to talk to them and recruit before my pirates kill em all.

And there are more buggs.

So cant reccommend this game as it is now, but if the fix it i will get back and play through it, and reccommend it

I am a huge fan of most pirate-themed games, and I really gave this one a shot—it’s still just extremely rough. It’s playable, but super buggy and clearly unfinished. And God forbid you accidentally bump your mouse if you’re playing with a controller; you have to restart the game if you want to resume using the controller. This could’ve(and would’ve) benefited from some more time in Early Access.

Nearly every positive review has less than two hours clocked in this thing. I put over four hours in and I’m telling you: this truly isn’t fun. Go with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag or Tempest instead.

Blackwake

Blackwake

Pros:

  • frequent updates, always something new (weapons, ships, gamemodes, maps, CANNONS… and AMMO FOR CANNONS)

  • fun gameplay

  • naval combat is well done

  • pvp combat is good, melee is smart, guns will often kill you instantly

  • attack/deffend fortresses (if you capture the enemy fortress you win, when you are defending and you know where all the guns are you may survive)

  • loadout selection, a lot of muskets (4), pistols (5), melee (6), special (4)

  • chat, voice chat (team, faction, global, proximity variants)

“I will be damned if I go with another early access game, I will rather eat paper from this notebook”

Ok, now I am chewing on a paper but I’m still satisfied by this game! Yay!

Blackwake is interesting multiplayer naval FPS that lend you feeling of member of Navy or life of a pirate (arrr matey, sorry, i had to). The game basically provide ship and sea and you and your crew (that are players or you are part of the crew under captain) try to get opposition team down the tickets or run out of suplies.

Blood and Gold: Caribbean!

Blood and Gold: Caribbean!

Tl&dr: whatever you expect from this game (M&B battle style, trading), search for it somewhere else, it is not difficult to find something better.

Mount & Blade engine, extended trading system, naval combat, main story… sounds perfect, what could go wrong? These were my thoughts when I bought this game and I got my answer very quick.. too quick. Everything can go wrong.

Honestly, it feels like someone took Mount & Blade, Sid Meier’s Pirates and Port Royale, stripped all the good parts from all these games and then mashed them together.

Ok, so my review is basically a bug list that needs fixing from the devs:

Crashes when trying to retreat during special missions. Being able to see the battle play out is ok, but your maps often mess up the pathing, and then it can take forever. There’s no way back to the menu screen then.

Not being able to control your men during special missions. If you ask me to do a 31 v 31 skirmish with native gear against armed enemies, then letting me use the basic mount and blade commands would be nice

The Pirate’s Fate

The Pirate’s Fate

Whatever you’re expecting, this is going to surprise you in a good way. This game is something in a class of its own, a unique adventure involving how desires can warp and change us, how the decisions we make affect others and the world around us. This time, it’s a bit more literal than what you might expect. Don’t miss this one—there’s something for everything in here, from the bright, eye-catching, incredibly detailed artwork by a veteran artist, to the heavy philosophical and ethical overtones, to, yes, what probably caught your eye in the first place: the actual transformations! Rest assured, the game does not skimp on those in the slightest.

I’ve never really been one for the Visual Novels. I get bored with constantly clicking through the dull, voiceless, text window. Watching the same character sprites pop in and out on screen.

But the Pirate’s Fate is a bright and welcome change, both visually and creativly, imo.

The Pirate’s Fate is a Visual Novel with player driven outcomes ranging from character interactions to romantic endings. So no single game is ever the same. There are parts of the story that will result in a bad endings and others where you will lose members of your party. It breaks my heart everytime one of them dies :C I keep trying to find ways too keep them all alive. Also you can have lesbian romances, so yeah pirate girl and girl cuddles and even, yes you guessed it, KISSING. blush

Quirky Tower Defence, where the difficulty ramps up quite quickly. Some bugs, but the dev’s are working hard to iron them out. Remember to report any you find, rather than just grumbling about it

Balance issues really quick. You don’t make near the money needed to get needed number of towers and upgrades needed. Each tower you buy increases in cost - i.e. 1st is 25, 31, 39 etc so after you place 6 you are paying TONS and monsters drop 5 or 6 on a kill - but unless you spend that on upgrading existing - you don’t stand a chance.

1st 3 levels were good / challenging. The 4th is frustrating as you have to tower 2 paths and you have crap for money. You can barely keep up by upgrading your existing towers let alone place new ones on a 2nd path that are 90+ each.

I like the freedom to just do what ever you like in the game as far as pirating/trading/missions. And the open world aspect and the way you can capture ships to upgrade/sell or add to your own fleet.

Information / Review English

Pirate Island is a 3D side-scrolling shooter with platform elements, which was developed by ImperiumGame.

Gameplay / Story

The Story briefly told:

A nameless hero tries to free his wife from the clutches of evil pirates / skeletons, who was brought back to life by an ancient force through Voodoo-Mgaie. Armed only with a saber / musket this seems impossible, but you love your wife so much that you still try everything possible to get her back in your hands and free her from the clutches of evil. You move on the sections from left to right or back again, your entire adventure will be accompanied by wonderful pieces of music that change again and again and are suitable for this era. The combat system is kept simple. You hit your opponents, evade backwards / forwards or fight them in long-range combat. After defeating them, they usually drop an item that can be useful to you, such as gold etc.

Return of the Obra Dinn

Return of the Obra Dinn

In “Return of the Obra Dinn” you’re an insurance investigator who is tasked with determining the fates of all 60 crewmembers aboard the Obra Dinn, a merchant ship that went missing in the early 19th century. Among your possessions is a pocketwatch that, when opened while standing nearby (the remains of) a corpse, shows you a glimpse of the deceased’s surroundings – and what they heard – at the moment of their death.

Furthermore, you have a book in which you keep a record of every crewmate’s death and disappearance. It also contains an artist’s rendition of the face of every crewmember and a list of the crewmember’s names, their occupation and their nationality. Your task is to assign a fate to everyone aboard the ship by using the 3D stills the pocketwatch provides you with. Some people’s fates are easier to determine than others, and the game will rely heavily on your deductive reasoning skills, since you’ll have to draw conclusions by narrowing down possibilities. Although sometimes conclusions based on guesswork and incomplete information were required too.

TL;DR

People declaring Obra Dinn a prime example of games-as-art and a shining pinnacle of what games in general should strive to be, probably have little to no understanding of how games actually work and wouldn’t recognize a good game if it hit them in the forehead. The core puzzle is good, tho.

Longer version

It’s better to know one important thing before even considering buying The Return of Obra Dinn. This can make or break your experience with it.

The whole affair boils down to solving one big constraint satisfaction problem (think the famous Zebra, or Einstein’s, puzzle) uniquely presented as a series of “memories” (still 3d dioramas) accompanied by an interactive notebook instead of a usual cell table. There is nothing else to it, period.
