Cleo - a pirate’s tale

Cleo - a pirate’s tale

„Cleo - a pirate’s tale“ is a Solo Developed Retro Pixel Art Pirate Adventure with a lot of nostalgic flair, humor and a linear story, inspired by the old Zelda games and the classic LucasArts adventure games.

THE STORY:

„What is the most important part of a story?“

Cleo is a 14 year old cynical girl, living a repetitive life with her father in a bar. She knows everything about the epic adventures of pirate legend Captain Cabeca, but in her everyday life, she is just surrounded by boring fishermen and unsuccessful pirates, hanging around at the counter.

But when Cleo finds a strange pirate-logbook and sees a ghost, who gives her a mysterious hint, her boring life is about to get turned upside down. She is thrown into a dangerous adventure and finds herself in a world of lies, deceit, greed and bad breath - the world of pirates - and most of them are looking for the same thing:

THE TREASURE OF ETERNAL MEMORY.

KRAKEN FODDER:

“Kraken Fodder” is a mini game inside the game.

It is a card and dice game, which is taken pretty seriously among fishermen and pirates. One round takes about 5 minutes and the game is about destroying your opponents card deck with canon balls. HAHAHAR!

Throughout the game, Cleo has to play this card game against a few NPCs.

The game was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2020. The release is planned for late 2021 with full voice acting in English and German.

ARRRGH!

Battle of Frigates

Battle of Frigates

If I’ve played 45 hours, I must like it! Or else there’s a bug that makes the game think it’s running, even though it won’t open, if you try to open it mulitple times wihtout restarting your PC. Those madcap glitchy frigates.

It’s a straightforward top-down shooter, inspired by Battle City on the NES (if I correctly understand what the developer means by “Tanks in Dendy”). Twenty levels, not too hard once you learn the strategies and level layouts. You’ll get a couple hours' enjoyment out of it. This type of game has been done many times, sometimes better, but it provides enough fun for . . . wait, $2.99?

I really enjoy this game and think it deserves more hype. It is very thought out and clean. One suggestion would be maybe having a bonus for choosing random powerup at the start? :)

P.S I learned things today about countries.

Playing status: 51/52 achievement, finished the game (I don’t know how to get the last achievement)

Grindy Achievement(s): Yes (~10 achievements which can take ~20.6h to finish).

Optional Achievement(s): Yes (~41 achievements).

Difficult Achievement(s): No.

Intro

The farming sim genre has been on the rise recently. They usually have similar mechanics as Harvest Moon, although other games try to mix it with other genres. Seeing that Peachleaf Pirates is a combination of point and click and farming sim elements, I become curious about how the result will be, especially since both don’t seem to be similar in the control scheme.

UPDATED ***

Thanks to the developer for letting me know about the information, i now finished the game.

I really enjoyed the farming side of the game, the combat was also fun, but i found the click and point side of the game a bit repeditive, just like the last part of the game i had to criss cross the map i think 4 times just to finish in 1 day.

Overall 6/10

after 20 hours i give up on this “point and click RPG” parts of the game, its not clear at all what to do , i see multiple side quests but they aren’t logged on the journal , i spend 40 minutes to complete a quest to save a parrot only to find out it didn’t continue the story at all and only gave me a discount at a shop i no longer need to use. Another i found a “winning ticket” to a casino which wouldn’t let you into the casino and i assume its for voodoo but the voodoo woman has dissappeared. Once this game has a properly designed walkthrough to help you when you get stuck this game is a big thumbs down. I really was enjoying all of the other elements of the game but the “point and click problem solving” needs a lot more “problem solving” from the developer. A hint system or something and ad all the minor things to quests and let us know what actually moves the story forward and what is a side quest like the parrot mission.

Aye Aye, Captain

Aye Aye, Captain

This game needs a tutorial or something. I have no clue what to do. I moved my crew around by right clicking and then clicked the cannonball to shoot, and that’s pretty much it. I never actually won a combat because it felt like it was going to take a half hour of simply clicking one button. So I surrendered. Then on the world map I had no idea what to do but a few seconds later I was in another combat and lost my cannon. So I lose?

Then in another battle both my crew died, but I was able to surrender and sail around again until I got into combat and could do nothing.

This game is perfect if you suffer nostalgia from the old times of Rampart. It is a fresh remake of the game in 3D with the same mechanics and modern graphics. local multiplayer is perfect for family game.

This game is really confusing and the description is very misleading and lies.

It’s a game where you make a fort, survive an oncoming wave and then rebuild for a point score and then restart. There are no credits, no AI to do the same thing with you so basically a lonely single player and there is no online forcing you to play pier to pier or online remote play or parsec which i don’t have right now and it looks like it would be fun with friends but needs a little more polish.

Pirates, the ship, and an adventure! What else do you want? :D Hire up to 4 crewmates, collect various artifacts and drink elixirs for permanents upgrades that make your pirate party stronger, travel islands with different biomes, slay monsters, and bosses to find a source of eternal life, Fon Vitae. The game has a solid roguelike base but needs some improvements. Still, the current state of the game looks pretty good and fun promising.

Space Pirates and Zombies

Space Pirates and Zombies

GAME TYPE:

2D Space Combat

Proberly THE best Top down space shooter you can get! When you unlock the capital ships you feel in a fight like Capt Kirk himself.

Even after all these years, this game is still my personal favorite when it comes to 2D space action. But not only the combat, also the ship building elements, upgrades and story make this a fantastic game. I also like the visuals - the colourful space looks beautiful! And the humour… oh my god! This game is so funny!

While I’m a bit late into the game of reviewing SPAZ, writing it anyway couldn’t hurt. Space Pirates and Zombies is a action-strategy space shooter with elements of random generation. While you have some control over how random it is, it only serves to increase or decrease the difficulty in the long run.

Gameplay: The gameplay is pretty solid. You pilot your ship around with WASD keys, and shooting your weaponry with the mouse. What makes it special if that you don’t point and shoot, but the direction of your ship controls where your shots are. If you place a weapon on the front of your ship, expect it to shoot forward until the higher class ships which have rotating turret mounts that do just that. Even then, anything other than lasers will still need to lead the target, as nothing is hitscan. This makes shooting more skill based.

VR Pirates of the Caribbean Life Experience

VR Pirates of the Caribbean Life Experience

‘VR Pirates of the Caribbean Life Experience’ is a small collection of weird scenes, with an ever-so-slight connection to water. In fact, apart from them all featuring water in some way they are not linked in any way. They are not fun, they are not educational, not interesting and they are not relaxing. Once again this developer hammers a nail into PCVR’s death with yet another app that makes it looks pointless. To say I don’t recommend this (or anything this developer makes) would be an understatement. Oh, and all the text was in Chinese anyway. I think it just goes to show an Oxford education isn’t worth shit.
