A pirate quartermaster

A pirate quartermaster

Don’t overlook this curious little gem of a game! Do yourself a favor and give it a try. I’ve never played anything quite like it.

As an added bonus the developer is very active and present, and has already provided several bug fixes and added improvements.

Edit 16th of October:

An earlier version of this review mentioned that the game needed some serious rebalancing, as it was very difficult to keep going for any significant amount of watches. The developer has since changed a number of things, and it is now much, much easier to progress in my experience.

This game is truly charming.

It has got style and character and a great atmosphere (it does not struggle to create a feel-good one).

You gotta love the music, absolutely enjoyable and this goes for most everything of this game.

It also has very good achievements that are desirable but seldomly quick to get.

They let you know there is more adventure for you in this game sort of in addition to the already

solid watch to watch “routine” of being the quartermaster.

Make smart decisions (one of them is not to think “1 portion” ought to be enough when there is no better reason to skimp there other than saving a few coins when that is not crucial) and you can sail a fearsome, capable pirate ship you will mourn to ever lose. This might even entail mourning the loss of your former captain (I admit that happened to me ;-) ).

Before the game launched I had it on my wish-list since it was announced, When the game first launched I tried the Demo, the game used to drop you in the ocean with a chest and it was hard to pick everything up. it was very frustrating that it put me off from buying the game. I tried the Demo again today after it updated, now you start the game locked up. I like the game now and It finally got my interest to buy it. some of the things you can do in the game is better then I hoped for when I first heard about the game.

Fun but optimised by drunk monkeys.

the game itself can be pretty fun, funny a times too when you forget the button to interact and end up punching someone, only to end up on the receiving end of a musket volley.

stuff like having to manage your ammo supplies by adding bullets to magazines or trying not to starve to death gave it a surprising bit of difficulty.

but all this is under one big issue, performance, more specifically the morphing blurs when you move. it isnt at all bad when playing desktop mode but it makes playing in VR a bit of a challenge.

Heileen 3: New Horizons

Heileen 3: New Horizons

This game is definitely filled with pros and cons. While I did think it was an improvement from the first two games, there’s definitely some issues to be taken with it.

This game has a simulation aspect blended into the visual novel experience. Each day, Heileen has to choose certain activities to do in order to increase stats for skills and advance skills. While I definitely don’t have a problem with simulation aspects being put into visual novels, I must say this game’s sim system is quite tedious. It took me several hours and several playthroughs just to get all of the achievements, because the simulation portion of the game takes far too long. Those who don’t have a lot of patience would definitely dismiss the game quickly. Meanwhile, I almost developed carpal tunnel syndrome from clicking so rapidly and frequently. The basic concept for the activities and stat development isn’t terrible though. That idea is fun, but I definitely wish they hadn’t made it so tedious.

“Heileen 3: New Horizons” is final chapter in Heileen saga of visual novels by Winter Wolves. In short, it’s telling the story of a young girl accompanying her rich uncle (who is pursuing the business in the New World) and eventually getting involved with pirates. It features all you can expect from a visual novel and it features elements of dating and raising sim. The game is running on Ren’Py engine and is not voiced (considering the number of characters, I actually see it as a sensible choice from the developer).

Did you watch the video?

Before you click add to cart watch it again because that is quite literally the entire game. This game would have been cutting edge in 1995. Sadly it is about 20 years late. I give them props for trying but this game simply does not deliver. Buy it when it is on sale under $1 because it is barely worth that.

The joys of bad programming/translation

I got a few hours into it and suddenly it crashed out of nowhere. I loaded it up again and when I tried to load a game it just said leerer slot (empty slot in English). I selected the English option at load but who cares if the entire game is in English? Everyone knows German, right? Of course an empty slot didn’t load either and crashed the game. Pfft, who would want an auto save? Or simple logic not to load a null game? That is way to much work. If you get more than a few hours into the game it is already over, what the hell are you still playing for?

I was wanting to play a game like this, but some Mother Fucking asshole did not make this game right. On the Main Building I was trying to upgrade to lvl 3 and the resources to upgrade is 96 wood, stone was around 50 or something and tools 32. Also on Main Building shows your limits and my limit was 80 resource to all items. I was stuck trying to find a way to somehow get 96 wood or pass 80 from my limit, I build double or triple of every building to see to pass the resource limit and also send my pirate ship out to raid and I had no luck. Now spending my money on these Idiot’s Really Fucken Robbed me of my money and yes, I should of look at other peeps reviews. I don’t know how steam works or lets these Fuckers sell there fuck up shit that don’t work. Steam you need to test there game before you sell there stuff because this is ripping people off. People who made Pirate’s Life take those bastards out and not let them sell there shit again.

Sid Meier’s Pirates! Gold Plus (Classic)

Sid Meier’s Pirates! Gold Plus (Classic)

This Review has some CRITICAL information missing from the home page to enable you to play through with out loosing all your gold/guns to a security check.

This game is a literal port of the late 80’s and 90s version of the PC game.

CRITICAL PIRACY CHECK INFORMATION YOU NEED TO KNOW.

This game was designed with a anti-piracy feature (I know ironically funny) where each page of the instruction manual had a pirates flag on it with a real pirates name. During the game you sometimes come across a pirate and it asks you to identify the flag. If you choose incorrectly you will loose all your gold, all your cannons, and your crew will be very very unhappy.

This game back in the DOS days when it came on about 15 bajillion 3.5 floppy disks was the bomb. I used to sit up for 48 hours straight guzzling jolt cola to stay awake (because that was the one and only and first ENERGY drink aside of strong coffee), no lie. If you don’t know what Jolt cola is, well that’s your loss….lol I’ll tell you like my Mom told me…. LOOK IT UP!!!!! AHEMM…. The game, right… let’s see. well you are on a ship see in the carribean, see and you are either a loyalist or you are a black bloody pirate who takes any ship or town he comes to and he rapes the town and pillages the women…..AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

The Guild II - Pirates of the European Seas

The Guild II - Pirates of the European Seas

If you want an easier version of The Guild 2: Renaissance, then this is the game for you. Yes, it does have less options for customizing yoour character, but no big-e. Just like The Guild 2: Renaissance:

1. Pick a Map.

2. Pick Your Faction…and yes, it still isn’t really that clear who’s sheild is who’s.

3. Pick Your Mission…I believe they are still the same as The Guild 2: Renaissance.

4. Customize Your Character…again, yes, customizing your character has less look wise, but everything else is pretty much the same.

One of my favourite classic games from back in the day. So happy to see it on Steam with all the content available. I still have the original CDs of these games, along with their manuals. Which I hold on to and it brings back nostalgia.

The things I really love about the GUILD II is the production chains and management. All the various shops and raw material harvesting buildings. The character classes are also interesting as well. The Craftsman and Patron classes are my favourite. I enjoy woodworking, black smith, mining, forestry, farming, tavern, bakery, and plenty of other crafts around those. The other classes are alright and I like them as well too.

The Pirate: Plague of the Dead

The Pirate: Plague of the Dead

Ive played this game quite a bit at this point so I feel its time to give my opinion

Pros:

Feels clean and smooth for the most part

Great time waster

Quick learning curve

Rum

Fun historical characters/captains that you get to team with

Reasonably self explanatory UI

The game is actually very small download size

Devs are active and working hard to improve the game and are open to the players suggestions

Cons:

At times I feel the game is a little too easy

Real player with 133.3 hrs in game

I downloaded this game to see if its anything like i thought it was going to be, sadly answer is no. First of all you start with big and cool looking ship for somereason, sort of takes the point of becoming the ‘‘greatest pirate’’ feeling away, ( since from the get go you have a good ship ) so i sold the started ship and bought new small one and tried to kill enemies and loot em to get enough monies for new ship and future fleet. But after realising how much grind you need in order to keep upgrading your ship / fleet is insane… AND THIS IS SINGLE PLAYER GAME!!! with microtransactions… and one more thing, you want to make your ship to look badass with like … red sails? too bad, you need to pay. Prob should mention that on the store page. 4/10

Aye Aye, Captain

Aye Aye, Captain

This game needs a tutorial or something. I have no clue what to do. I moved my crew around by right clicking and then clicked the cannonball to shoot, and that’s pretty much it. I never actually won a combat because it felt like it was going to take a half hour of simply clicking one button. So I surrendered. Then on the world map I had no idea what to do but a few seconds later I was in another combat and lost my cannon. So I lose?

Then in another battle both my crew died, but I was able to surrender and sail around again until I got into combat and could do nothing.
