I keep checking the store page to see if I’m just blind, but I can’t seem to find anywhere that this is “Early Access” and yet the game is so completely and utterly unfinished that it barely even feels like it’s started development. But here we are, with a July 31, 2021 release date and a store page that appears to display a fully released game… hang on let me check again… nope, can’t seem to see an Early Access label anywhere.

Let me play the game again and make sure I didn’t miss anything… Nope, there’s basically no content.

I have almost 6k hours and belong to a wonderful and very successful community in the game. I actively played and tested almost all content in the game. You can assume that I might know what I am talking about.

I am fan of historical simulation war games. Enjoying Totalwar series for years and particularly attracted to age of sail games thanks to Pirate of Burning Sea. Naval Action is the only successor in the market for this genre now. That is the main reason I had big hopes and enthusiasm toward the game and still playing till another come, mainly sticking with my friends.

As much as I would love to see a game like this succeed, I must recommend that you avoid spending money on this game right now. If you are interested, I suggest you wait till it releases and watch the reviews then. Let me explain why.

I have many more hours in this game then is posted in my steam information. I was a closed alpha, pre steam, tester. At the time their was a small group of Russian or Euro testers that numbered, less than 50 as far as I can tell. The second batch of testers, another 50ish, included many Americans. I was one of those testers. I believe that was in early 2014 or 2015. Either way, I have been involved in this game from closed alpha, to early access, to sea trials, to open world going on years now.

THE CHOICE IS YOURS. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!!!

This game is not “good.” It has an extremely high learning curve, no tutorial, a clunky interface, poorly laid out and unintuitive quest objectives, sub-par writing, semi-frequent crashes, and is heavily dependent on the community “Combined Mod” to smooth out its rough edges.

That said, it is the best pure Pirate RPG available. But that probably says more about the gaping hole that exists in the market and less about this game itself. Aside from the brief but very welcome tangent that the Assassin’s Creed franchise took with Black Flag we have not seen a good single player pirate RPG in a long time; probably since Sid Meier’s Pirates. So if you need your pirate fix and are willing to take the time to learn this game, then you will be satisfied. But I can’t help but wonder why we haven’t seen a better Pirate game made.

Corsairs Legacy - Pirate Action RPG

Corsairs Legacy - Pirate Action RPG

The year 1689. Captain Blood’s Odyssey has reached its end – a legendary corsair took over as governor of Jamaica. The Caribbean needs new heroes – notorious adventurers who would set sail under the black flag for a hazardous journey and Spanish gold, becoming the scourge of the tropical islands!

Jack Rackham wasn’t planning on becoming a pirate, the life of a smuggler was good enough for him. Unfortunately, during another cargo delivery, he got into a series of events that would change his life forever.

Dive into the historical pirate life simulator in the carefully recreated environment of the Caribbean region at the end of the XVII century. The project is based on a ground-based RPG mode where you control the main character and a mode where you control a sailing boat. Stand at the wheel and see what adventures await.

Take part in an exciting story that connects historical facts with the world of the book «Captain Blood: His Odyssey». The game’s story is set on an island named Barbados shortly after the events of the original books.

A wide range of blades and guns were created on the basis of well-preserved historical samples, museum pieces, and their replicas. The real prototypes also formed the basis of ships, fortifications, and cannons.

During the careful study of all models the development team was responsible for, we were consulting with historians. The project also tries to come as close as possible to the economy of that time while keeping the game balanced.

Features:

  • Fascinating role-playing game;

  • Full freedom of developing the main character;

  • Different ways to resolve conflicts;

  • Complete immersion into the mysterious world of pirates;

  • Land and sea gameplay;

  • Choices have an impact on the fates of the characters.

I like the freedom to just do what ever you like in the game as far as pirating/trading/missions. And the open world aspect and the way you can capture ships to upgrade/sell or add to your own fleet.

Path to Prosperity

The game offers a brilliant twist to classic strategy games by its first person perspective. You get to explore the island and run your little settlement while also getting involved in building it from scratch, collecting materials, making trades and protecting it from intruders. This game shows great potential and I’m really looking forward to new updates and added features!

It also runs smoothly on my Catalina despite the warnings on the Steam page.

Awesome little game! I’m a fan of first-person gather/craft/build/farm games, but never really explored the RTS genre. This game bridged that gap, balancing the elements of both really well. It doesn’t (yet) have the slickness and polish of games from bigger studios, but I found myself devouring the full default 100,000 coin cycle and then thinking about how I would adapt on my next play-through.

Overall, it’s unique and full of promise! Give it a shot!

Rise of the Third Power

Rise of the Third Power

1587, 2A - 15 years have passed since the guns of the Great War at last fell silent. The conflict rocked the world, leaving half a generation of men and women lying dead on the battlefield. Of the many players that had acted on the world stage, only two remained: the kingdom of Cirinthia and the ancient Republic of Tariq.

In time, Dimitri Noraskov, a hero to the defeated Kingdom of Arkadya, rose from the ashes. He saw his king as a coward for surrendering, and a traitor for submitting to the Treaty of Evenheart. So did the people. They supported Noraskov when he overthrew the king. They supported him as he reclaimed the lands that had been stripped of them. And they supported him as he raised an army. Noraskov had theorized that the nations of the world were still too worn by the Great War to enforce the terms of the Treaty. Thus far, his gambit has proven successful.

The Arkadyan Empire shows no signs of curbing its aggression. It is feared by many that a reprise of the Great War, that at one time could have been prevented, is now all but inevitable. But there are those that believe it can yet be stopped…

Rise of the Third Power is a love letter to the glory days of the console style RPG, with modern conveniences such as auto-save and a combination of the best elements of Japanese and Western style gameplay and writing. Experience this fusion of East and West, old and new, in a game meant to surpass Stegosoft Games' previous work in every way!

  • STORY DRIVEN - Join a party of eight, each with their own unique ambitions, perspectives and personalities as they embark upon a suicide mission to topple the Arkadyan emperor, Dimitri Noraskov. A blend of humor, drama and tragedy await players as they navigate the treacherous world of Rin.

  • POLITICAL INTRIGUE - As the world of Rin recovers from the Great War, the balance of power remains badly skewed, with vacuums of power still waiting to be filled. The player’s party will be both beset and aided by schemers, liars and betrayers, all while the clock ticks down to a reprise of the greatest war in human history.

  • CUSTOM BATTLE SYSTEM - Rise of the Third Power offers eight playable characters in a battle system built from scratch, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, all of whom are meant to participate in battle simultaneously without the need for tedious party management. Combine each character’s unique powers and disadvantages, analyze the abilities of your foes, set your formation and charge into battle.

  • PERSISTENT EQUIPMENT - Each piece of equipment found, purchased or stolen is a permanent, unique upgrade for each character. Instead of purchasing replacements, the player purchases upgrades. No more buying that awesome helmet back in town only to stumble over a better one as treasure in a dungeon. Each character has 3 equipment slots with 8 upgrades each, with 192 to find in total. This system avoids the tedium of inventory management, while also giving the completionist something useful to hunt for.

In my opinion this is the best version of this game.

I say this because each “new game” is just a tiny expansion of the original product. in simple terms, they have been charging 60 bucks for the the same old game over and over and over.

I don’t support rebellion for this exact reason.

the only reason you shold buy ANY of these games is if you plan on using one of the many mods available.

as this is an older version, mods for this title will be more likely to be finished and less likely to be broken by random updates.

For Starters…

Let me preface by saying that I purchased this game back in 2012 during a steam sale. I installed it along with a few other titles, played for a few hours and uninstalled it within a few days. A couple years later I decided to give it another shot and removed it within hours of installing it. In fact, actually googled online to see if there was a way to delete the game from my steam library because I swore the damn game would never fool me into installing it again. It was extremely frustrating trying to learn all of the complex technical nuances to managing and controlling your space fleet, especially when I just downloaded a bunch of other titles and this one has a learning curve, and expects you to actually play through all four of the dense tutorials to gain the minimum level of proficiency to play the game. And of course, I clicked through them without retaining anything, immediately started a skirmish, couldn’t control my empire, was confused about what was going on, got obliterated, cursed the game and uninstalled…

The Falconeer

The Falconeer

Alright, here’s the dealio, I saw this game before it was released and was instantly enamored by open world flying and dog fighting mechanics (something I’ve dabbled in before and liked). I followed it very closely until it released and bought it almost immediately when it was available. At first I used a controller to play the game, unsure if keyboard and mouse worked (my preferred method), it was a bit wonky and the controls took some time to get used to. While the game says its not keyboard and mouse supported I play it keyboard and mouse anyway, my fingers are not suited for basic controller controls so when it can be keyboard and mouse that is my go to any and every time regardless if its made for it or not. Using my preferred control system does increase my enjoy-ability to play the game (because duh I can actually PLAY the game this way).

Above the clouds, freedom must be boundless… or not, as The Falconeer shows us. Our falcon makes it only just above the clouds. Most of the time we fly either very close to the ground or at cloud height, but not much higher. That makes sense, because it’s damn cold up there and the oxygen is a bit scarce.
