Exanima

Exanima

Exanima has, over the years, become one of my favorite games on Steam. I have come back to it over and over to get another hit of physics based medieval combat. The very small development team has continued to add content, improve physics, and craft their very unique vision over the years with consistency and quality. I think it’s important to mention that Exanima was intended initially as a testing ground and means of funding for another game that they plan on making. Since then the developers have focused on making Exanima its own game with the added benefit of everything they add here being applicable to the creation of their other game.

It’s funny to see people complain about the game being dead when the devs make weekly progress reports and the beta is updated regularly. And you can even talk with the lead dev in the discord! Most EA games aren’t this transparent. I’ve been following this game for years, and it’s come a long way. There’s a small but dedicated team behind it. When an update comes out of beta, it’s bug free. And for just $15, you get a game unlike any other. IDK, game good. :)

Star Matter

Star Matter

We are currently running a Kickstarter for Star Matter! You can find it here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/runready/starmatter

Star Matter is a single-player, 2D, tile based, spaceship physics RPG, where you pilot a ship that you are able to customize and configure to suit the current task, your playstyle, or what remains of the ship. Using your design and piloting ability, you will explore what remains of humanity after the collapse of Earth to an unknown alien threat. What path will humanity carve into the far future, if any?

Ship Creation

Your ship is the only thing standing between you and a neuro-clone into a new body, making it pretty important. As such, you are able to use the resources gathered from fair or foul means to improve existing ship designs or generate new ones, as you unlock additional ship components.

Dynamic AI

The AI in Star Matter utilizes ships as well, and they are bound by the same restrictions as the player. If an AI ship loses some core components, or thrusters, it will have a harder time posing a threat, or may flee combat.

Cybernetic Abilities

As the player is able to harness their understanding of alien technology, the player has access to additional abilities that others in the universe do not. The player may be able to leverage these abilities to gain an advantage in a bad situation. These abilities currently include creating a gravity well and assuming control of an enemy ship. These abilities may be improved or expanded as the players' understanding of the alien threat grows.

Faction Interactions

There are three primary factions making up what remains of humanity, and managing their expectations and interests may play a key role in the advancing of humanity. Attacking vessels of that faction, or plundering them for resources, may prevent you from accessing their technologies in the future, or making them openly hostile towards you.

Crafted Universe

Each area is purposefully built for the player to explore and potentially conquer. Additional areas may be provided to you through your choices in both the story and gameplay.

Mining

There are many ways to gain Terra, from bounties to faction task rewards, but mining is one of the least dangerous, or at least, it used to be.

Flyist is a Unity Asset flip, what Valve calls a “fake game”. The “developer”, gigantumgames, took the Fly the Plane Through Caves Unity Store tutorial/demo/game asset pack from the real developers, negleft, changed the name, and dumped the result onto Steam. They’re attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else’s work.

Pillow Simulator

Pillow Simulator

TLDR; VERDICT AT THE END

To be honest, if you are looking for a simulator like this…play I Am Bread. This game still needs work to be worth $6.99 USD. It’s a cute concept, but it’s not there yet.

The graphics are low-quality (possibly intentionally), but not so low as to be detrimental…if that makes sense. There was a lot of clipping when the camera was at certain angles in certain spots that was, however, detrimental. At one point, I was on top of a bookshelf on the lower floor of the starting house, but my camera was in the upstairs bathroom.

Bridge Constructor Playground

Bridge Constructor Playground

Upsides:

  • Actual learning value in the area of bridge engineering and understanding of mechanical and physical principles. Even if the physics engine is not flawless and the means are very limited, with the basics it offers it’s still a lot of fun. Physics-based puzzles are more interesting than mere logic-based ones. It’s more exciting to have that connection to real-life engineering, and it’s fun to watch the result play out.

  • Lots of freedom. Feels like there’s not one single optimum solution. Being given several approaches in which to build a bridge (cheap, sturdy, materials-limited) further increases the range of possible ways to solve the problems.

It’s an OK bridge building game with some positives and negatives

Positives:

There aren’t that many levels but each one has different objectives that you have to complete. This gives good replay value as most of the goals require different bridges. The game is actually a bit challenging as you need to balance stress and material cost. However, the levels do get same-y feeling after a while and there aren’t that many variations. Also, the suspension bridge is wayyyy too strong compared to others and is a bit confusing to optimize.

DEVELOPERS: READ BOTTOM PORTION, UPDATED OCCASIONALLY.

READ THIS REVIEW IF YOU’VE NEVER USED AN EMULATOR BEFORE:

my mind has been blown. im surprised at how little attention this has. as of now product is 2% positive reviews away from “overwhelmingly positive” and rightfully so (i hope it makes it there c:). First off i would like to emphasize that this is not a game but an emulator. A very very nice emulator on steroids. i would akin it more as software that you use to run other games. 3Dsen does not come with these games but it will greatly enhance them if you download the games (via a simple google search) and run them with 3Dsen. their very easy to download if i want super mario bro 3 i just google “super mario bro 3 nes download” and boom there it is.

3DSENVR breathes new life into old classics. Duck Hunt makes for a respectable target shooter in VR. That’s right: Duck Hunt… a game that came out in 1984… is a FUN VR GAME now.

Even stuff that kind of sucked… at the time it came out… is now modernized into a total blast to play: A 1983 Pinball game I otherwise wouldn’t have given ANY thought to as an 8-year-old kid is freaking MAGICAL now. To be clear: I had ZERO nostalgic feelings for that title… but now it’s one of my favorite 3DSENVR games.

Fighting Moore

Fighting Moore

This is a fairly straight forward combat game, at least at first. You have 5 attacks – a hammer, a meteor, a spinning wheel which quickly moves you across the map and two spells you fire from a bow. The best part of the attack system is being able to pick what attack to use quickly.

There are around 10 enemies you face (though I still haven’t seen some from the trailer), some spell casters, some healers, some warriors. The same strategy of attacking, dodging, and attacking is pretty consistent versus most of them but things get more complex once you hit chapter 3. You often face 5-6 enemies at a time but there is a bullet time mechanic to help out.

This game is wonderful! Mechanics wise it’s wonderful! It’s smooth, but it took me a min to figure out how to properly cast. I spent the first few tries just wandering around. I will play to complete all chapters now.

I am not that crazy about shooting games, but decided to try this game because it had good graphics and didn’t cost very much. The person making the game doesn’t speak English very well, and the controls are a little bit difficult to use but apart from that it seems like a pretty good game.
