Archero

Archero

Dear archer hero, it’s time to answer the call of the world and complete the necessary challenges to become a god!

Using your skillful archery skills, different arrows and the blessings of the bow gods, you can easily destroy all kinds of enemies and complete a variety of challenges.

Don’t forget to defeat your challengers, they don’t want you to become a god!

Shoot!

Draw an arrow from your pack, then build up your strength and shoot at the enemy! The greater the force, the faster the arrow and the more damage it will do to the enemy.

A shot that hits an enemy may break their joints and slow them down. There is a chance of a blast effect or even a kill shot!

Enemy armour

Enemies do not always reveal their flesh and blood, but usually wear armour of varying strengths in different torso positions, including light, medium and heavy armour.

Usually some enemies will be able to tell at a glance which type of armour is dominant, while others will need to be tried with an arrow.

Each part of the armour has its own durability value and will protect its owner with a response damage reduction parameter until it is depleted, but some arrows can penetrate directly regardless of the armour.

Types of arrows

When facing enemies without armour, or wearing light, medium or heavy armour, the different types of arrows are more effective and are

Normal arrows - average muzzle velocity, penetrate light armour and dent medium armour, but break when encountering heavy armour

Barbed arrow - higher muzzle velocity, penetrates and deals a lot of damage to unarmored and light armour, breaks on medium and heavy armour

Flat arrow - low muzzle velocity, dents almost all armour and loses a lot of durability

Sharp Arrows - Very high muzzle velocity, can penetrate all armour types including heavy armour, but do less damage

Normal arrows are infinite and you will automatically harvest other arrows from the Bow God on a regular basis, so remember to be flexible!

Growth

You gain experience by hitting enemies. Each time you accumulate a certain amount of experience you can upgrade and choose one of three random growth paths. Feel free to choose your own direction of development!

God Wishes

Wishes will accumulate automatically over time, and each successful shot will accumulate more wishes. When they are full, they unleash powerful aspirations.

These skills last for a while and come in different types: from rapid fire and knockback to charm and disguise, each of which has its own use to help you defeat the enemy.

Divine Rites

Each time you achieve a part of your goal, you will receive a gift from the gods. You can choose from a variety of different rewards, from special passive skills, divine wishes or special arrows.

Bow

Find bows with different attributes from all over the map, or from dead enemies, and use them with a passive skill or a divine wish to achieve outstanding results.

Quests or the Bow God

Complete a series of quests for the Bow God and collect crystal shards to cement your path to godhood. As your strength increases, you can receive various levels and quests such as defence, assault, sneaking and collecting.

Special helpers

Skeletons in tombstones, locked gates, stone throwers for defence, carefully erected stone balls, rickety suspension bridges - the mechanics in each mission will be a great help to you!

In each of the far corners of this dreamlike galaxy are the spirits of guardian animals, whimsical creatures that seem close and sentimental to a wandering soul of a young girl who explores ceaselessly through the cosmos. Floating between planets with the most graceful elegance and encountering this realm’s many colorful entities, each with their own history and past of mysteries for the playful space girl to discover.

Each node on our galactic map presents the player with a single stage of different planetary arrangements, some solid, some bouncy, some composed of water for you to splash through to the other side. Each maze of differently sized planet obstacles hides one shining yellow star to obtain and bring to the exit through skillful navigation and manipulation of gravity. Different plots on the sprawling and sparkling map hold the key to important elemental powers allowing you to become light as a feather and floating at a consistent level or heavy as a rock and plummeting towards the surface of a nearby planet. Successfully harnessing the power of these natural elements guides you easily through the galaxy.

Very cool game. The art is simple, but the levels are quite challenging.

Sayonara Umihara Kawase

Sayonara Umihara Kawase

A puzzle-platformer where your fishing (grappling) hook is your main mode of traversal and the main reason to play this game. The game may seem simple at first however, the stages will become increasingly complex that knowing some classical physics such as a pendulum swing, Newton’s Laws of Motion and force vectors could help you figure out some techniques to solve stages. Otherwise, as a last resort go to YouTube to find solutions to a stage.

Keep in mind that the best part about the stages is that they are non-linear, hence there is no unique solution and there are many different ways to get to the exit. To keep challenging yourself, there is survival challenge which is the classic game mode or the option to complete stages with the fastest time by competing in the online leaderboards. You may be shocked watching the methods from some Japanese players on YouTube with how they complete a stage in several seconds or less.

The definitive entry of the Umihara Kawase series for this generation. This is a fantastic port, with barebones - but fully functioning gamepad support. Japanese devs aren’t always known for the best console to PC ports, but this one is fantastic. All the features of the Vita version with windowed/fullscreen support, fully mappable controls (on controller, I didn’t try to play this on a keyboard).

As for the game itself, you be the judge. The learning curve on this game is about 2 hours. After that, you’ll need to develop a deep sense of muscle memory to solve later puzzles. Eventually, you will need to master advanced techniques like climbing overhangs and launching yourself from a horizontal stand-still. That being said, some players have difficulties with some techniques but not others - so the difficulty can become really skewed if you don’t master the skillset. (Like for me, the second crab boss took me 465 tries before I cleared it the first time)

Slime Research

Slime Research

With a myriad of cookie-cutter puzzle games Slime Research is a refreshingly unique. Although visuals could use polish, the game works amazing for an early release! The devs spent a lot of time on the mechanics, and it shows. Honestly I’m curious how they got the slime to feel the way it does

I think the map creator is neat, and some of the workshop maps are already pretty interesting

A one-of-a-kind puzzle game with a relaxing vibe and comfy gameplay. Incredible level editor. Fun physics. Thoughtful puzzles to solve using wires and logic gates, and it’s even more fun to build your own. Kind of reminds me of Glover from way back when.

Umihara Kawase Shun

Umihara Kawase Shun

The fairest Umihara game, the only one that normal people could beat without hours of practice, you can unlock permanent continues by finding new levels too.

Simple platforming gimmick, the bungie/grappling hook, that allows for alot of options and potential routes per level.

Umihara is heavier now.

She now has a snazzy jacket, though.

Less diversity of environment than the original, just as surreal though.

Boss fights are still shitty.

One of the best platformers ever made. Best in it’s series just because of higher QOL than it’s prequel.

Umihara Kawase Shun is an amazing game and you won’t be disappointed. If only want to buy one of the games, then buy this one!

Umihara Kawase is a unique platformer with a grapple mechanic that feels and plays amazing. The OST is is nothing special but it is really nice and comfy.

Honestly there isn’t much I can say but just to get it! Umihara Kawase has become my favorite game series so much so, that by now I own it for most platforms that it released on!

Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep

Atlantis: Pearls of the Deep

ONE-THOUSAND LEVELS ON ZEN - One-thousand levels to get the last achievement. If you are the even a little bit OCD, do not buy this game. One thousand levels, and there’s only a couple of tens of different screens to get through. By the time I was five-hundred screens in, it was too late to give up. I had to keep ploughing onward.

It was alright up until the zen bit. The main levels are fun, the challenge levels are nicely thought out. Maxis Marble Drop was a better game in almost every way, but this does its best. The game feels as if some designer sat in a room and said “How about we take Columns and cross it with Pachinko and then make it really slow” - currently I resent every second I spent on this game, but it’s not that bad to be honest … but a thousand levels, really?

Cargo! The Quest for Gravity

Cargo! The Quest for Gravity

This game is ludicrously fun and quirky. Absolutely nothing in this game is resemblance of logic and common sense and the game is sure to make you laugh all through the ending credits due to sheer nonsensical characters and environments being infused. It’s certainly a much less complex game in terms of mechanics and is no where near as difficult to complete, except for few glitches I have noticed here and there that is the only thing I didn’t like. You control a female protagonist while the central theme and everything , even for you to progress in the game revolves around Buddies ! Buddies were designed to be replacements for Humans after the world was remade. They’re the small, naked men that run around the islands. Buddies are the only known source of FUN and you’ll be using them to accumulate that important substance. A group of three buddies playing musical instruments will greet you shortly after you begin the game. Known collectively as ‘The Band’, they give you some guidance throughout the game along with occasionally bizarre pieces of insight. By walking up behind a Buddy, you can give them a swift kick to the backside. Contrary to what you might think, the Buddies actually love it! Kicking them will send them flying and produce small quantities of FUN. If you kick Buddies too many times, they’ll start floating up into the sky and explode! Luckily, they’re not dead. By throwing bits of debris into the Sinkhole, new Buddies will be born from the volcano. You can also bring items from earth’s stratosphere to make dear gravity centered all across your sandbox in which you are playing game from absolutely nowhere out of skies such as Iceberg, Ship, Big Ben, Skyscraper, UFO, Statue of Liberty, Train, Earth Axis, Collider, Comet. You’ll enjoy Cargo much more if you just relax and have a good time. There’s no time constraints, enemies, or anything else stressful to worry about. Experiment with vehicles, try new things, enjoy it, and have FUN!

Cargo is great! It’s a very quirky and funny physics builder/driving game, by the makers of Pathologic.

If you feel like building a car, a submarine, a hot air balloon, an helicopter and driving it around to your own music (or the game’s pretty cool OST) as the game world around you feels more and more like a fever dream, Cargo is probably for you!

Works flawlessy without the slightest adjustment on Win10 in 2021 which is notable for a 10 year old game.

If you are familiar with Ice Pick Lodge, you should know most of their games have been designed starting from the idea that “games don’t have to be fun to be good”. This leads to the birth of Pathologic 1 & 2, one of the most important creative works in the video game medium.

Hydrophobia: Prophecy

Hydrophobia: Prophecy

I was drawn to this game by the graphics and water physics which looked amazing, and it didn’t disappoint in that regard. The water and water effects are pretty impressive.

Overall gameplay:

From the start and through most of the game it is a relatively simple game, mostly solving minor puzzles and navigating around obstacles, and taking out enemies when they present themselves. All in all most of the game right up near the very end is not very difficult at all. More on that later.

There are a number of flaws in this game however and here is my take on them.

Real player with 25.2 hrs in game

This game is often on sale for $0.99 or less, and at that price, I think it is definitely worth it.

There are a lot of negative reviews for this game, and they aren’t entirely wrong, but I don’t think it’s a terrible game. It has its ups and its downs and a full load of meh. So, let’s break it down. Warning: Minor spoilers, but nothing that really gives away the story.

Positives:

  • The water physics: they are definitely cool and a major positive. I wish more games would make such use of flowing water physics to affect the characters and environment. It is fun to use water flooding to disorient your enemies and sweep them off their feet, it’s neat how the intensity, direction, and depth of the water flow affect your own movement and so on. In some cases, you can see flooded compartements behind glass barriers, and if you shoot out the glass, that water floods into an area to have several effects. Similarly, some destructable leaky bulkheads can be shot out for similar effects, in some areas even completely filling the corridors and compartments you are in, which can be a danger but finding an air-pocket is usually not too hard.

Newtonian Inversion

Newtonian Inversion

You have become trapped in space amongst the remnants of a disintegrated starship and must navigate your way to safety.

In this game there are platforms which all have their own gravity. Blue platforms have gravity pulling towards them and red platforms have anti gravity which pushes the player character and some physics objects away from them. The game is played from a 3d third person perspective. The goal is to navigate to the exit teleporter by solving the puzzles involving changing the direction of gravity using switches and a gun which will reverse the direction of gravity when fired at the platform.
