DIVINATION

This game disturbs me a little bit and I love it for that. I guess I should call it a visual novel because the only real thing you do is decide how to arrange the runes your patrons select, but even that little act can be a quite an experience depending on how into it you can get. What could this rune mean, what order do they actually go in, can I actually reverse the fortune by moving this one?

It’s very short (like 20 minutes tops) to go through a single time and the English text could use a bit touching up in a few spots, but for the cost of a soda or candy bar I’d definitely recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre.

This is a very short game with only 4 characters but each divination change the outcome whoch makes the story very interesting. After the first round, you can use the flowchart to pick the options you decide and see the result, I do encourage you to not necessarily focus on the 100% chaos but to try to see how each result has an impact with the ending.

The 100% Chaos ending is really interesting, it reminded me a LOT of Chobits (not the animated version) as the plots turns a lot around the fact the robots don’t have the choice to live or to die.

Pink Gum

Pink Gum

Pink Gum is a very short journey through a life as told by chewing gum bubbles. I pondered how to sum this game up in a sentence, and I guess that’s the best I could do. Not great, really.

I think its one of those things that no matter what I might say, you could go, hmm, sounds interesting, but when you actually see it, it will make perfect sense. Which begs the question “Why am I even writing about it then?”

Because I think Pink Gum is well worth checking out. For the small amount of time and money you spend, you get a visually appealing, thought provoking experience. I’m also pretty sure that my opinion isn’t enough to persuade you, so here are some quotes about the game from famous people.

Pink Gum is a short but powerful experience that tells us about birth, life and death from a unique point of view.

I really recommend this game to everyone.

Sisyphus Reborn

Sisyphus Reborn

I believe I’m a less common player on Steam, I buy games for several different reasons, some I buy for myself and also for other people, some games I prefer to watch and comment on instead of play. I collect games for their beauty, for their art design, for their challenge or if they convince me they have a good story. This “game” is, above all, a philosophical reading, you basically need to follow the only way of doing the things.

Inspired by the Albert Camus' essay in which he introduces his philosophy of the absurd: that of the man in search of meaning, unity and clarity in the face of an unintelligible world devoid of God and eternity. Does the realization of the absurd demand suicide? Camus replies: “No. It demands revolt.” He then describes various approaches to the absurd in life. The last chapter compares the absurdity of man’s life with the situation of Sisyphus, a personage of Greek mythology, condemned to always repeat the same task of pushing a rock to the top of a mountain, and every time he was almost at the top, the stone rolled down the mountain again to the point of departure by an irresistible force, completely invalidating the hard effort expended. You can and, sometimes, you have to do your own way, and even your closer beloved ones will be against you, because people are doctrinated to live an absurd life with no purpose other than gather properties. I call it contemporary (and cheap) slavery, the utilitarian and materialist world we live to serve purposes and reach goals that are not the ours.

When you finish playing Sisyphus Reborn, it will feel like being suddenly roused from deep sleep in the middle of a blustery night. It’s raining heavily outside; the window is wide open, and the cold, damp air makes you uncomfortable, finding its way under the blanket and disturbing your peace. You remember that the dream was uniquely pleasant; disappointed, you rub your eyes somewhat forcefully for no apparent reason, turn over, adjust the pillow a bit and prepare to go back to sleep. Some intrusive thoughts linger for a couple of minutes. They have no discernible form or purpose, but they feel vaguely threatening. Being awake at this hour seems strange and unnatural, so your only desire is to plunge into nothingness once more.

The Game We All Have To Play

Written for 1561’s Thoughts - Honest reviews, for busy people.

The Game We All Have To Play is worth some time. The premise of the game revolves around rhyme. If you make it through once you can say you’ve won, but it’s up to you if you think you’re done. 6/10

There The Light

There The Light

I can see this being one of those games that polarizes people - you’re either the type of person who likes this kind of game or you’re not. And if you’re not, you’re probably really going to dislike it.

Fortunately, I’m in the former category. I loved the “vibe” of this game. But more than that, I loved the feeling I experienced playing it. I come from the “walking simulator”/exploration game camp. I love games where I can explore, at my own pace, a place that has a lot to see and experience. I also like puzzles to an extent, and the puzzles in this were either simple (but somewhat meditative) or somewhat annoying (the circular ones). I didn’t struggle too long with any of them, but I enjoyed some more than others, even if they weren’t difficult. It felt like the point of the game wasn’t the puzzles but more the experience as a whole.

There The Light takes the player on a mystical journey through the abandoned ruins of a long lost civilization. The mystery of who these people were and what caused them to leave this world remains unsolved even after the end of the game, although there are hints indicating what actually happened. At the same time, the game leaves a lot of space for personal interpretation or various speculations, the story being conveyed solely through the numerous inscriptions and drawings that one can find on the walls of the surrounding temples. One thing is certain though: this advanced civilization left behind a series of puzzles and enigmatic mechanisms.

A nice and atmospheric game. The graphics and sounds are well done and really help you to immerse yourself into the games world. While the game is short, it does have a branching storyline, where different decisions take you down different paths, giving it replayability.

VR: Vacate the Room (Virtual Reality Escape)

VR: Vacate the Room (Virtual Reality Escape)

For those of you who are interested in room escape experiences, I recommend VR: Vacate the Room. While the initial experience may seem a bit easy or short for the experienced player, it is very well done. Overall physics of the game are very cool & certainly add to the overall game play. There are a few minor flaws. Objects are sometimes difficult to pick-up off the floor. While there is an in-game work around, it sometimes can get frustrating and decreases the overall immersion. Also while the room has a cool atmosphere, the fact it is so dark makes it a bit difficult in VR if you can’t figure out what to do next. You can “replay” the room with different and considerably more difficult puzzles once you escape the initial room. This adds some replay value to a game which is relatively inexpensive. I hope to see some more Vacate Rooms from this developer as the experience translates very well on VR.

Real player with 4.4 hrs in game

Absolutely love this game. It’s a relatively short experience ( 1 hour). But it’s priced appropriately. This game would serve as a good introduction to the Escape Room genre. The room-scale design is great. No need to teleport (even though it’s not a con). The puzzles are simple enough to be enjoyable. There’s no leap of logic here. The in-game clues are spot on. (Spoiler Alert: the only doen side I could see is that shorter players may be at a disadvantage. This is something the dev should consider)

Playerless: One Button Adventure

Playerless: One Button Adventure

Discover Playerless, the game set in another game. Your character has become self-aware, you can only use one button to play, the AI has formed a sect - and the game engine is a physical mechanism. It’ll be fun!

How many games can you play at once?

1, if you’re a normal person.

604, if you’re a chess grandmaster.

2, if you’re playing Playerless.

So we were making this game about ghost-hunting, but the AI kinda got out of control - now two plots intertwine to form the big picture. On a scale of not broken to broken, the game is ridiculously broken. Could you please help us clean up the mess?

How many buttons do you have?

104, if you’re using a keyboard.

120, if your keyboard is an accordion. One-tap control

Game

1, if you’re playing Playerless.

All you need to do is press buttons on a keyboard! Oh, actually, press one button. The others are sort of… temporarily out of order. So that the puzzles are more challenging.

Can self-awareness appear all by itself?

No, say the religious.

Probably, say the scientists.

Hi, say the Playerless.

Join the debug unit on a unique puzzle adventure where you get to shape the characters - and the characters get to shape you. Satisfaction (and abstract philosophical thoughts on the nature of existence) guaranteed. Bringing up AI was never this fun before!
