Solenars Edge II: Champions

Solenars Edge II: Champions

Intro

Welcome to the resort! In Solenars Edge II: Champions, you’ll be able to customize your character and explore a resort full of minigames. Looking for fights? We got you covered. A lot of characters with different classes are available to recruit for VR battles. Be warned though, as losing will also mean death. The game seems to have co-op support from a different build branch, but since I didn’t try it, this review will be based on that.

Pros:

  • Freedom to build your party from many characters in the game

Everblood Arena

Everblood Arena

Everblood Arena is a turn-based roguelite tactics arena battler with a heavy focus on procedural generated items and character builds. Get your team of fantasy warriors and take part in 5v5 tactical turn based battles. Rise your way up the ranks and claim the greatest prize, the Everblood Cup!

item randomization

Item randomization is a huge part of Everblood’s design philosophy. A huge array of spells & modifiers exist and items through a myriad of algorithms will mix and match these so that each piece of gear comes with it’s own skill tree & modifiers. Make tactical choices between leveling up your character’s Strength, or leveling up his Fiery Sword of the Helmsplitter to unlock it’s epic quality rank 3 spell.

This doesn’t just stop at items though! Character’s will also be randomly generated, with a small variety of races, each containing their own smaller skill tree’s with lots of attribute randomization.

Our hope is that this focus on randomization and creating a rogue-lite atmosphere will add lots of replay-ability and create dynamically changing character builds.

a Roguelite?

We intend to add roguelite elements to Everblood, with characters sustaining meaningful injuries (and potential death!) from getting knocked out in combat, we expect players to have to recruit new hero’s as theirs die, slowly adapting their tactics and equipment to fit the strength’s of their randomly generated character team. Our hope is that each run of Everblood will be a multi-hour affair, with difficulty changing drastically based on your starting roster & the generated teams you come up against

So far I am disappointed in this game. From the store page this game looked promising but after purchase you discover there isn’t much interesting and very few options that can be found to play the game. I feel like the $9.99 i spent on this game is way to much for the limitation this game has.

Arcante

Arcante

Somehow reminds me of Might and Magic 6 (although others might say it more resembles M&M 9 ?)

Anyway, there were multiple games of this genre (first person, fantasy world exploring, party based RPG)

Probably a rare genre nowadays.

We all know turn-based party-wise crawlers, or top-down RPGs.

Arcante feels like a variation, that wants to keep the action (free movement) of the M&M 6, but at the same time modernize the clunky spell casting (which required the player to pause the game, even with memorized / active spell, to get the upper hand).

This game has the the old Might and Magic vibe. Could use a bit more content, more quests, characters, and story but I am enjoying some nostalgia. If you are looking for an old fashion romp through fantasy ville give it a try.

Finished it up. Took ab out 9 hours. Didn’t find a use for the bird head statue or the second city riddle, but the ending was…interesting. Still mostly enjoyed it despite some quirks. Very old fashioned might and magic approach to the genre, but it was a fun romp down memory lane. To the creator, good luck and I hope you are successful enough to try again.

Lamia Must Die

Lamia Must Die

(If TL;DR, then watch my less eloquent review here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mho_vEQHzIw )

I spent a long time trying to elaborate on what I want to say about this game, but after hours of thinking, I realized it would be best if I put it thusly:

1.This game’s mechanics are really good and consistent with little to no gameplay glitches

2.The graphics look nice but are not accurately displayed or scaled correctly in a consistant manner at any resolution it offers

3. Voice actor audio can cut out but at least it’s consistent when it does (ie the same audio cuts off in a cutscene no matter how many times you play through it)

Lamia Must Die. . .Eventually. . . Just as soon as I stop dying.

Lamia Must Die is a game of adventure wherein you are not just one person but rather four people. You can change two of your party members and their styles are definitely unique. You adventure into a dungeon and skip all the trash tier monsters completely. The only game play is a big epic boss battle.

Graphics and Art

The graphics are not that good, but it’s excuseable. This game runs mainly on artwork and pictures anyway and it’s played through various GUI’s, which all look and feel rather fluid and work well. The artwork itself is rather nice and sometimes kind of mediocre, though certainly better than I could care to draw. I’m not completely convinced that some of the pictures of the characters drawn were drawn by the creators of the game or anyone they hired. I don’t think they were commissions and rather just something free. If they were drawn by the creators then I ask why there is no consistency in the art work. Some of it looks great while others look like it was drawn by a complete ametuer who had way too much interest in tits. I of course refer primarily to Lamia.

Low Magic Age

Low Magic Age

TL;DR: The game is a fun grind, but it is not well balanced.

I have about 90 hours in the arena and about 10 in the adventure mode. I have raised a party to around level 100 in the arena. I am recommending this game with some suggestions for the devs. I hope the devs will implement some change so the player feels like they are growing more powerful as they level up, instead of feeling like they are barely holding on and crawling towards the inevitable moment when they will no longer be able to beat a single encounter.

Real player with 136.4 hrs in game

Well as of the date of this review we are still awaiting the Campaign Mode to be implemented. I am hopeful from what the developers have shown recently that it will be at least released sometime this summer. It might even be close to Fall before we see the full game come to be. Even so for $6 I still recommend this game.

Right now we have what is called “Arena Mode”. You take a pre-made party or create a custom party to be placed (by the game) as a group on a random map to fight one wave of monsters at a time. These waves are chosen by you as the player and can contain random kinds and numbers of mobs. The waves range from easy to difficult. You get to choose what difficulty you are comfortable fighting against which is nice. After each battle, if your party prevails, you get a certain amount of gold based on how your characters did in the battle. If no one in your party dies you get bonus gold. You also may get a piece of loot or two. After each battle you are also given a chance to buy and upgrade equipment for your party, which is randomly generated, if you have enough gold. You can also level your characters once they have achieved enough XP to do so. The rules mainly try to follow the 3.x DnD ruleset. And it does a pretty decent job of doing so. With each of your characters gaining higher Feats and Talents as they progress. The magic system is different as there is no mana involved for any spells that are cast. Instead you have a cooldown period for each spell. Some do not like the way this mana-less sytem plays but I love it personally. There will also eventually be crafting available which is nice.

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light

Steven Universe: Unleash the Light

I love this franchise and the light series is one of the best Innovative fun RPG I had played in years.

I was really looking forward to play the 3rd game so much after (SAVE THE LIGHT) and

here I am.

On the Downside this game was created for mobile market first so expect

downgrade from the second game that was develop for console instead.

It is like the first game (ATTACK THE LIGHT), but other than that it still have

elements of surprises of the second game had. The game feels like a little

If you’re a fan of steven universe you should enjoy this game greatly! Not technically necessary to have played the previous two, but I definitely recommend it.

Fair warning: Unlike save the light, which was developed for consoles from the start, this game was originally mobile only (apple arcade). As such, movement is restricted to just transitioning between grids on an overall map like in the very first game which was mobile only (attack the light) rather than full free movement like in save the light. Regardless, the result is a game that’s a lot more stable than save the light was on release (which, from what I recall, was grumpyface’s first venture into making a non-mobile game, and still an amazing experience)

The Deed of Deception

The Deed of Deception

The Deed of Deception starts as a 4-player cooperative puzzle game. Working together to find the deed and inherit your fortune. Once the deed is discovered the players realize that there is no inheritance to be had. There is something in this manor. Something ancient, something…evil. The player who finds the deed becomes possessed. Given special abilities and powers with the singular mission of trapping their friends and stealing their souls to fuel the evil in this place. The gameplay changes based on the type of possession the manor decides to use. Each variation offers different abilities. Sometimes using the element of deception to trick or brute strength to overpower. The souls of those who have been trapped try to help any way they can. Maybe giving items, or hints. Anything they can to help those escape where they failed.

Fire and Brimstone

The possessed is given the power to wield ethereal flame. The flames consume the manor slowly creeping from room to room as he lays traps for the panicked players to step in and succumb to the flame while they search for the ingredients to the potion to extinguish the flame with the help of the spirits in the manor.

The Grog

An ancient pet of Beelzebub himself inhabits the body of the possessed. The grog can freeze the players in fear. Unable to move. The only thing that can stop the grog is holy light and the players must find all of the broken pieces of the holy lantern before the grog freezes everyone.

_The Manor is calling for you, will you answer? Uncle Barnabas sadly met his maker. Before he left this plane, he designed several puzzles and challenges to test his relatives and find a fit heir to take possession of his fortune. Finding the deed within the house will be the answer to your players. Strangely you don’t remember your uncle. At least not until this strange butler came to tell you of his last will and testament. But you go because, why not? The promise of riches is far too tempting to let go…

The deed is more than paper and ink. It is something ancient. Something …. Evil. Promising possession of unimaginable riches but the possession is not of things. IT, this place, possesses you. Manifesting the evil within these walls into the poor soul who stumbles upon and awakens it. This manor means to unleash the evils from other dimensions into our world. They need the life force of you and your friends to open their gate. They have almost completed their work and you are all that stand in the way of this unimaginable plan. Can you stop them?_

-15+ variations of possessions for an endless playthrough

  • Randomized room generation. The manor will be a new layout each time you play

  • Character specific stats making your character selection an important strategic aspect

  • cross-platform(Steam, Oculus, PSVR)
