Survive the Fall

Survive the Fall

A global cataclysm has brought an end to civilization as we know it.

Finally, after many years of darkness, sudden climate changes, numerous fires, extreme temperature fluctuations, an eternal has come over the planet and the conditions allowed you to try to explore the post-apocalyptic Earth.

As one of the survivors, you will have to survive in this hostile world, find other allies and with their help build a new settlement - for only as a close-knit community will you be able to survive these harsh, new times.

Not everyone will be friendly… the fight for the resources left over from the remnants of civilization can be brutal…

SURVIVE

Gather precious resources so you don’t die of hunger or cold.

Light fires, craft weapons and items, hunt and don’t get killed.

EXPLORE

Explore an open world full of dangers, secrets, and valuable artifacts. Admire the views and the wildlife that dominates the land. Be careful in the forests… it’s easy to get lost.

The asteroid left behind more than a big hole in the Earth… Beware!

BUILD AND MANAGE A SETTLEMENT

Create a new settlement that will grow and the resources it produces will help you in your missions.

Remember, only a good commander who wisely uses limited resources will be able to win the respect of others.

ASSEMBLE A TEAM

Assemble a team that will help you survive and support you in battle. Decide whether you want to go on missions with support, or if you prefer to leave your companions to guard and take care of the base. Take care of their health and condition.

AVOID DANGERS

Sneak around and, if necessary, face opponents in open combat. Remember, however, that ammunition is severely limited, medicine is scarce, and every companion is worth his or her weight in gold. Is it worth the risk?

  • a world full of secrets

  • a survivalist approach to gameplay

  • team and resource management

  • construction and development of the settlement

Krater

Krater

Krater: Shadows over Solside is a Top-down, Action-RPG developed and published by fatshark – pushed out of the gate in late-Spring 2012. Its reception was largely mixed – due to bugs, unfinished content and a lack of any sort of co-op mode. But how does it hold up five years down the line?

Story

The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic Sweden after the ‘Untergang.’ You take control over a bunch of mercenaries looking to make their mark on this new world. Their misadventures take to us to Solside – which perilously hangs over the Krater – a seemingly endless abyss that draws those from all over to seek its riches and possibly their demise in the process.

An unpolished turd. Numerous crashes to desktop while trying to navigate inventory or upgrade characters. Horrid pathing AI. So bad, that during some fights team members will suddenly run off up stairs and cause a wipe. Sometimes getting halfway across a map before realizing ONE member just decided to stand in place, even while still being highlighted as part of the moving group. Quests that cannot be finished because you happened to enter a dungeon prior to receiving the quest and kill the boss (everything else respawns, why can’t this?!), leaving numerous inventory slots full of quest items that cannot be dropped. Frequent battles where one or two of your group just stand there. Even after repeatedly retargeting. Had an entire group wipe (4800Kr to heal the group which can take hours to recoup) because the bruiser couldn’t seem to get to the target I selected for his grenade, and didn’t want to attack any other target when selected. Hours of time required to grind in order to upgrade characters in order to progress to a new area without wiping the team. Very little variety in dungeons. Unable for some reason most of the time to get the cursor to view other parts of dungeons and centering with space bar not actually showing ongoing battle made for frequent blind fights. Craft your own weapons? Cool, except that once you’re able to get far enough to purchase a new blueprint, it is already so underpowered as to be useless and a waste of crafting materials. Sellers have no indication whether or not the blueprints they have are already known, and to even check you either have to alt+tab out and check your own notes, or exit the seller and run over to the crafting table to check, then run back and forth repeatedly as most people do not have photographic memories. Selling back those expensive blueprints gives a 90% loss of value. Blueprint listing isn’t even entirely alphabetical. It’s like they did half of them, then added the other half also alphabatized but didn’t bother to collate them together. Oh, and for some reason the actionable area of the mouse pointer is well below the tip of the arrow (like halfway down the arrow), causing significant frustration early on trying to figure out why I couldn’t select anything. Then in Alces Hollow my ranged crowd control Regulator decided he’s going to start fighting point blank or not at all, thereby becoming two-hit toast in EVERY FIGHT.

Dead Age 2: The Zombie Survival RPG

Dead Age 2: The Zombie Survival RPG

I have edited my review and changed it.

I was finally able to complete one full play-through and reach one ending to the story.

I might play again to get a different ending.

There are pros and cons to the game and my original review was quite negative and at that time I did not recommend the game. After having finally been able to complete the game, my opinion has changed.

PROS

-Art work is really spot on for the game and goes well with the style

-music is quite enjoyable and appropriate for the areas and scenes

After 100 hours of playing Dead Age 1 and Dead Age 2, I would personally recommend picking up and trying out the game if you check these three boxes (Which lucky for me, I do):

1.) You are a fan of turn based RPG’s

2.) You like Zombie games

3.) You enjoy those old text-based adventure style flash games

Other than that I wouldn’t recommend you get the game because you’ll probably get tired of the combat pretty fast, the story is mediocre at best, and the survival/rpg elements are done decently but not enough to keep you playing just from those alone.

Guns Undarkness

Guns Undarkness

【overview】

“Guns Undarkness” is a “Stealth RPG” that combines typical stealth game features such as remaining undetected and invading antagonist’s territory, with the traditional command type JRPG. The gameplay is roughly divided into two parts: a stealth part that hides on the field and a battle part that is developed by a turn-based command-type battle system. Encountering without being found by the enemy allows you to enter the battle in an advantageous manner. Aim for the depths of the antagonist’s territory while managing your resources well.

I saw no relevant reviews, so gave it a shot. I often like game books with a little RPG to them.

As of this writing, its 3 bucks to buy. Its about right. I’m fairly certain this is a first attempt from the developer to make a game. The presentation is plain, but does have some nice pictures thrown in occasionally. The font to select options is a little hard to read, and I encourage the developer to read up a little on UX design and user interface.

Its a game book, so how is it? Its pretty amateur. The writing is sometimes a bit awkward, but it gets its point across. Feel like playing the captain of a mercenary group during a zombie apocalypse and you want the 3 dollar version? Here you go.

Super Army of Tentacles 3: The Search for Army of Tentacles 2

Super Army of Tentacles 3: The Search for Army of Tentacles 2

This game plays a lot like a choose your own adventure visual novel. It has a lot of various places to explore and a multitude of quests to play through besides the main quest line. The combat in the game is either wordplay based or trivia based (much of it being US history).

I really enjoyed my playthrough of the game and will likely replay. Even though I’ve played thru it once, there still were many side quests I could go back in another playthrough to do and various options to drive the story other ways. The humour in the game was a plus for me too.

It’s 2017 and the Apocalypse is years ahead of schedule and the gods have disappeared. You, a Deep One, have awoken from the Dreamland and must find the Necronomicon before Nyarlathotep, The Crawling Chaos and his 7 gods does and restore things to how they were or bring in a new age.

Alright, so SAT3: TST2 is the third VN in the series and it’s not nearly as cool as I made it sound in the paragraph above. This VN is, at its core, pure insanity and chaos. It’s a Lovecraftian adventure where you fight monsters by answering trivia questions (Brush up on your Shakespeare.) and fly around on a floating ship/city while “fighting” Microsoft paint horror monsters and creatures. One moment you’re in Antarctica making friends with a… yeti girl with pointy teeth (?) and the next you’re challenging Alexander Hamilton to a rap battle and signing the declaration of Independence. (Reminder: It’s 2017.)

Aeon of Sands - The Trail

Aeon of Sands - The Trail

Aeon of Sands is an unconventional dungeon crawler with a unique aesthetic, witty writing and gameplay that will challenge even the most seasoned player.

The action takes place across a large number of dungeons reachable via a world map which is vaguely reminiscent of some older games in the genre (SSI Gold Box games / Realms of Arkania). However not all locations are accessible in a single playthrough with many areas being accessible only if you make certain choices, have certain objects or party members. The “dungeons” are not strictly underground complexes either but include cities, outdoor areas, installations, etc…

In short the game is nice, but it has many annoying shortcomings.

I liked:

  • the world and its spotty lore, it is well done.

  • the retro graphic is exactly i was hoped for.

  • quest story is not so great. I expected something more heroic, but it fits well into the world setting.

  • dungeons are large and full of illusion walls and secret buttons. It is fun to find them, but also it is mandatory, so it could be frustrating on long run.

I didn’t like in UI:

  • text descriptions was artistic but strange, like it was written by a non-english writer.
