Fantastic game with an amazing world. The lore and story are phenomenal and the gameplay is very fun too. Highly recommend to anyone who enjoys funny and interesting worlds akin to that of Undertale/Deltarune (You can definitely see a lot of Toby Fox influence in the game lol)

All the King’s Men

All the King’s Men

The King is kidnapped from his bed in the middle of the night without a struggle. The royal militia specifically seeks out Topher’s father for his help, citing suspicious indiscretions in his past. Leaving him with many more questions than answers, and no remaining ties to his home, Topher decides to make his way across the nation on foot to meet up with his father in the capital city and put the pieces of his life together into a full image that makes sense. Along the way, meet allies and enemies alongside Topher on his journey across the land to save his family and, in turn, the Kingdom.

On-Screen Enemy Encounters / Battle System

Never feel like you’re leaving the action of the game with a random encounter! All enemies are on-screen and battles take place right where you found the enemy on the map. The active-battle system keeps fighting dynamic and allows the you to follow the action in real time in order to best strategize your next move.

Complete Control over Stat-Growth

Instead of gaining random, arbitrary stats based on some RNG behind-the-scenes, control your own destiny and customize each play-through with your own personalized leveling board. Every play-through can be different, based on the path you take to improve your party.

Fully Original Soundtrack

A truly dynamic, original soundtrack to fully immerse you within this open world adventure. Every track in the game was created specifically, and exclusively, for All the King’s Men by idea composer, Andrew LiVecchi.

Multiple Difficulties

Choose your fate before the game begins, based on the level of challenge you desire. Standard mode still offers challenging gameplay, but you’ll have access to saving whenever you desire, simply by accessing your menu, inn and item prices will be much more easily accessible, and enemies of all types will present less of a challenge. Professional mode is not for the faint of heart. Your save access will be restricted to the save crystals throughout the map, inn and item prices will be more of a stress on your wallet, and enemy battles will require careful strategy and consideration to win.

Both modes will offer the same access to the main plot of the game and the quests related to that, though some side quests will only be found in Professional Mode.

Flexible Controls

More detailed information about controls still being confirmed.

Masquerada: Songs and Shadows

Masquerada: Songs and Shadows

Masquerada: Songs and Shadows really took me by surprise, it really did. The game claims to be a RPG but there are very few elements to support that claim, especially given the fact that the story is quite linear and there are no choices for you to make, you’re basically just watching how everything unfolds. That said, there is a lot to say about Masquerada, both good and bad, and I believe it’s a game that went under a lot of people’s radar and I truly believe it deserves a lot more exposure and credit than it has received.

Once again, this is the type of game where the “Yes” actually means “Yes, but-”, as in “Yes, but only if you like linear story-focused games with lots (and I mean LOTS) of reading”. Let’s get this straight: any mention of this game being an “RPG” is very misleading. There are no choices in the story at all; the protagonist (Cicero) is a defined character with his own personality and backstory, which I don’t think is a bad thing. There is very little exploration, aside from a few tidbits of lore and equipment sprinkled about, and since the game almost never lets you backtrack, it’s easy to lock yourself out of getting a certain lore entry or mask forever if you’re not careful. Pretty much the only RPG-like mechanic is the skills, masks, and enchantments you can pick between, so if you consider XCOM an RPG, then sure, I guess this game counts, too.

Augmented Future

Augmented Future

The concept was intriguing, but I didn’t like the pseudo real-time combat. The timers are way too fast: there’s almost no time to click (much less think).

The interface is clunky: lots of waiting for text or buttons to load, for instance. I did play around with the settings and improved the speed as best I could, but waiting for components to load in such a minimalistic interface just feels bad.

There were also some basic bugs, like superimposed buttons.

Bottom line for me: if I’m going to play a game that ditches graphics for the sake of gameplay, I want the interface to be very good, and not something I feel like I’m fighting.

Atonal Dreams

Atonal Dreams

Atonal Dreams is an RPG reminiscent of classic console JRPGs: you roam around a field and through dungeons looting treasure chests, talking to NPCs, and engaging in (non-random) turn-based battles that pit your team against hordes of monsters. Grow your characters by masterfully using skills to alter modifiers, build combos, and either destroy your foes or convert them to your side. The game is heavily story- and lore-rich, featuring an often-silly cast of characters who each have hidden depths that are gradually revealed.

  • In the world of Alora Fane, the omnipresent miasma causes thoughts and feelings to manifest as monsters. These can be destroyed with weapons, or tamed using magic. Tamed monsters can be controlled as allies for the duration of the battle.

  • Skills can level up by gaining XP equal to the damage inflicted with them. Stack up bonuses by manipulating a variety of psychological stats for efficient growth!

  • There’s a strong focus on story and characterisation. Dialogue scenes use full models with nuanced facial expression shifts that that add an additional layer of nonverbal storytelling.

  • A quirky blend of absurd British humour and deep layered meanings and metaphors about the nature of mind and reality and characters' hidden backstories and self beliefs.

  • No unnecessary padding or tedious grinding; the game aims to make a memorable mental mark without overstaying its welcome.

STORY

Alora Fane’s gods once walked among the people they dreamed into being, until they were slain - and the world itself wounded - by a defiant blasphemer known as Blight the Betrayer.

A faction of devout knights called the Seraphim emerged to maintain ordered civilisation in the gods' absence, while those who saw the gods' death as freedom from tyranny founded the Blight Wolves to live lives of defiant chaos in the wild.

Centuries after this cataclysm, Savitr - a legendary Seraph whose unusual purple skin and horns reflect the inner demons that haunt him - and his starstruck apprentice, Collie - a former Blight Wolf, eager to rise above her brutal past - set out on a quest to rescue Savitr’s scholar friend from an island of monks who gaze into the infinite sea of potential dreams beyond physical reality.

Savitr’s quest to bring light to the world to atone for his past sins will face challenges from the competing belief narrative of his fiery squire, and by facing their dreams incarnate, they will reveal the light of truth at their core.
