I had been looking for a good program to help me play remote D&D for a while. G.A.T.E. is the perfect solution. I can keep in touch with my gaming buddies that don’t live near me anymore, and our adventures can continue. There is also a Discord available where the developer is active and talks to users. All in all I highly recommend G.A.T.E. to anyone who needs a way to play any grid based adventure games remotely with friends.

Picture it: it’s Friday night, and the party is all here to start the new DnD session. Only this time you’re online, trying to use Roll20.
You’re the DM, and it’s your first time using the website. You realize you don’t have a “picture” required to launch the campaign, so you open the only jpg on your desktop–a photo of a plate of lasagna you made, for some reason–and click launch the game. Finally, you think to yourself. We can play online now, cool!
Only it’s not cool. You get into the open game. Three of your players aren’t here, because they don’t know how to create an account, because they’ve never used the internet before–especially that one guy, Larry, who’s 58 years old. You realize after launching the game for the first time that your Firefox browser which you haven’t updated in the last 3 years is unsupported. So you pause for another ten minutes as you update, or load Edge (it’s actually a good browser now guys I promise,) and launch the game again.

Table of Tales: The Crooked Crown
Having a narrator for a game can go so wrong …
But this game does it well! Charming narrator, music, and table-full of scenery and figures.
Excellent, excellent game if you worry about motion sickness (VR sickness). No chance of that at all.
This is not a full-body participation game. But as a game laid out in front of you to sit at and control – I find it one of the best! I forgot I was in VR, and the index controls are intuitive (close your hand to grab; open hand to let go). This is like playing a pirate-themed D&D game, moving figures, rolling dice, but it all happens beautifully and automatically in front of you. Pieces get knocked over – sometimes by other pieces taking their turn. But everything rights itself moments later. Even that part is funny and charming to watch.

Great and charming D&D tabletop RPG.
Could be compared with Demeo, as this is also 3rd person, turn based, grid movement, with cards to use on each turn… but its plenty different with ToT being clearly superior in a lot of ways, but also not without its drawbacks.
Table of Tales is a bit different, a bit more in depth story and mechanics wise…. its Narrator tells a story, and voices different characters, there is a bigger story than “big bad lives there, kill it because reasons”.
A full playthrough took me ~4hrs listening to all the dialogue (that can be advanced by pressing grip) and it has some replayeability, as there are a bunch of choices during the adventure that change the storyline.

Dark Quest: Board Game
“Heed my warning well my friends… A new evil has risen in the far east, a sorcerer and a student of chaos magic has arisen and now looks to the west to use his newly found magic. We must send word to the tribes and gather our best warriors. Some of the magic we will face is new even to me. It will be necessary to call upon some old alliances if we are to make stand against this evil. I will guide you in this journey but much will depend on you.”

Cardnarok: Raid with Gods
Been looking around for some indie games and found this little gem. I love the theme and ideas behind this game especially with the choices of heroes from mythologies of all backgrounds.
The combat definitely requires strategical thinking, planning and careful calculation in order to level up fast and build decks that work with your team. At current state it’s quite playable and no bug that bricks the game experience.
The developers have been patching updates aggressively and that is a good sign.

Interesting take on the genre
The core loop is:
-
a string of StS-like maps
-
connected by a monopoly/Game of the Goose-inspired overworld
-
coupled with Rogue-lite Metaprogression
The combat is pretty standard with the caveat of 3 characters (with somewhat varying abilities) in “tag-team”
The Deckbuilding part follow the newer trend and allow the player a high degree of control over the resulting deck
Overall the game could use more polish and some extra content, but it’s a solid buy if you’re a bored deckbuilder.

Wildshape - Map Editor (free demo)
Definitely would recommend giving this map editor/VTT a try if you’re running campaigns with your friends either online or locally. It is best used with a second monitor to have as indicator for what your players see.
The tool sports the most visually impressive map editor I have come across, and whilst the VTT features definitely still need some work to be considered top of the line, they are certainly usable and enjoyable. I am a first time DM, and am very much looking forward to utilizing this tool for a long time to come if it is kept up in the same pace as it has so far.

Absolutely love it. The level of realism and natural beauty you can create with Wildshape is simply unmatched. To me, Wildshape is a simulation for those insanely detailed real world battle map models you see at your local geek shop, but it’s here, on your screen with loads of assets, and textures to bring it to life without ever touching a bottle of glue.
I own several map makers, such as dungeondraft and arkenforge. This is entirely a different product, and with that there is a learning curve. Expect to spend time getting used to creating in a 3D space as it’s not going to be simply drag and drop like other 2D applications (for obvious reasons). So yes, takes time to learn, but the pay off is huge.

Sandwalkers
If you’re interested in Sandwalkers, please wishlist and follow us :)
Every decade, the Mka tribe sends caravans of adventurers into the Phithi, the meteorological chaos that keeps the Uwando tribes isolated from each other and makes life outside the refuges almost impossible.
Their mission: to establish diplomatic and trade relations, to explore and reclaim the lands left to the mercy of monsters and pirates, and, most importantly, to plant a new tree city that can become a refuge for the Mka and their allies. Regardless of the success or failure of their mission, the caravans must send the memories they have gained back to the capital, using the crystospheres carried by traveling beetles.
-
Guide a caravan of adventurers through ever-changing landscapes.
-
Fight and survive in the face of acid rain, sandstorms and heat waves.
-
Tame hostile creatures, rescue refugees, seek allies for mutual aid, or follow the blood path and loot everything you can.
-
Seek rich arable soil to plant a new tree city for your people.
-
Progress by passing on your knowledge to a new caravan.
-
Repair the broken climate, and put an end to centuries of wandering.
-
Make choices that will affect your future expeditions.
-
Each character has a different job that greatly influences the gameplay. It’s up to you to explore mythical ruins as an Archeologist, or track down huge beasts as a Hunter.
-
Don’t underestimate the weather! It influences the movements of the characters and the outcomes of confrontations.

Stolen Realm
This game is still in early access. There are lots of bugs and quirks, but the game is being regularly updated with bug fixes and new mechanics.
Do you like Dungeons and Dragons? Do you like turn based strategy games? Do you like to kill stuff? If you said yes to any of these questions, then this game may be for you.
Make a character. Go on quests to kill stuff. Level up and obtain sweet loot. These are the basics of this game.
With 8 skill trees to choose from, each with their own unique abilities, you can make your character just the way you want them to be. The best part? You can mix and match skills from any tree you want, whenever you want (so long as you have the skill points to do so). Wanna be a sneaky rogue who does lots of crits? You got it. Wanna be a fire wizard who sometimes casts ice spells? You can do that too. Do you want to make 20 attacks in one turn, each one applying a debuff that causes your target to take increased damage from all subsequent attacks? Its gonna take some effort (and a lot of luck), but it is completely possible, thanks to the skill tree!

It’s a diablo3/PoE style aarpg with divinity/baldurs gate/wasteland turn based party combat, and it does both fantastically well. I find myself respeccing characters constantly because the skill tree is so much fun to experiment with. You select the difficulty scaling whenever you want which can scale as high as you want or as low as you want, with the rewards reflecting accordingly. Will be looking closely at future content and patches for this game.

TaleSpire
This tabletop will change the way you play your online sessions forever.
If you are a DM and felt at any point that your sessions were “flat”, that combat was lacking the 3d aspect, or that your maps were not detailed enough, you need to get this.
If you are a player and you appreciate when the DM had a table with an impressive set of walls, traps and miniatures waiting for the game session, you need to get this.
If you at any point looked at your game board, and said. I’d love for it to be as impressive as videogames, with animations and lights, you need to get this.

This program is amazing, and it has allowed many in our group to get into D&D that never would have before. We’ve been running a campaign for a few weeks now, and it has been a blast using this program. We all live far away from each other, so getting together was not an option, but the visual aspect of this game has helped some of our players enjoy D&D that never would have enjoyed sitting around a table and playing.
This game is also a huge money saver. For $25, you get to create all these maps and have access to so many minis, which would cost a fortune getting real ones from Dwarvenforge (for example, an unpainted cottage stone set on there is $40, that’s just the cottage).

Super Dungeon Tactics
Played the game a second time (and at higher difficulty) and it’s a great game, and no need to know anything about the tabletop game.
I - SUMMARY
Details will follow, but to summarize first:
-
At first it looks like a casual game for kids, BUT play one or two hours is enough to realize it’s a game with a depth and a mood that could fully satisfy many adults.
-
Greatest aspect is combats that have a nice depth, a fair diversity, and are based on a system avoiding routine and automatic playing.
-
Second greatest aspect is party building. It is very special because it’s based on equipping party and party composition selected among a roster. Also it’s useful and fun (but not mandatory) to redo the party building each time you’ll start a series of missions and prepare a party for it.

If you’ve played the Super Dungeon Explore board game and are thinking/hoping that this will be an adaption of the board game with similar gameplay, you are mistaken. Although you’ll certainly recognize the characters, locations, and bits and pieces of the game mechanics, the gameplay only superficially resembles SDE. SDT is turn-based and uses grid-based combat, but otherwise it plays very differently that SDE.
Super Dungeon Explore (the board game) feels like a turn-and-grid-based adaptation of classic action-RPG video games such as Secret of Mana, a strange but surprisingly solid mixture of two wildly different genres. As suggested by the name, Super Dungeon Tactics feels like SDE adapted into a turn-based tactical game akin to titles such as Fire Emblem. Because we’ve gone through another major genre shift, the action-RPG flavoring of SDE is lost completely in SDT, but the resulting tactical game is surprisingly enjoyable.
