Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst

Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst

One of the main reasons why I finally laid my hands on Mirror’s Edge Catalyst only in the end of 2021 is that I laid my dick (metaphorically, of course) on the first rule of the multimedia consumer: never trust other’s opinion. There were so much hate, so many complaints about this game—and while I still love the original Mirror’s Edge, I thought Catalyst was not worth my attention, since so many people said it was a total crap. Besides, there’re always many other games, so I can’t say I was bored or have been missing Faith so much. But finally I bought Catalyst, mostly thanks to many ASMR videos on YouTube with amazing views and sound ambience from the game. And you know, I’m not dissappointed. Not a bit. Certainly, I understand that a pure parkour game can be not very satisfying, especially a year after Dying Light came out. But Mirror’s Edge never was a complex multi-aspect game—it was always a stylish speed running entertainment with an amazing audiovisual component. It’s simple by its nature, and that’s really good, when you just want to switch your brain off and relax, while getting aesthetical enjoyment.

Follow the clues to find the entrance to an ancient underground facility and discover its dark secrets. There is no skill tree, no experience system. Whether you succeed or fail depends only on your skills as a player.

Going Nowhere: The Dream

Going Nowhere: The Dream

loved the game, great music, atmosphere, gameplay, art style, its all just really enjoyable. sure its not the longest thing ever but i dont think it needs to be, the world is far more open then the look of its narrative focused linear looking gameplay may seem, its as enjoyable as a scavenger hunt/puzzle exploration game as it is a platformer.

Going Nowhere: The Dream is not what you think it is. I should warn you that reading this review may spoil the experience. I highly advise playing it blindly. Sometimes you run into those sneaky developers that can manipulate your expectations. This is the type of game that rewards you for curiosity in a big way. On a surface, Going Nowhere is a mediocre platformer that plays similarly to Mirror’s Edge (without the wall running). Sure you could just beat this game in about 40 minutes and be done with it. You might even get some mild satisfaction from the interesting narrative. However, you can easily spend another 4 to 12 hours “going off the rails” to find some hilarious secrets and places to explore.

Lemma

Lemma

This game is almost a perfect game of exploration, parkour, stealth, adventure, strategy, and is practically a God-Game, with lots of hours to explore this virtual open world of Lemma. This game will have your hands sweating and your stomach queazy IF you have some fear from heights, but never fear for you cannot die in this world. At times though this doesn’t seem to help when you don’t know how you are going to get to the next plateau, because dying is a way of thriving in this world. You build these walls and platforms of energy ice that will aid you to get to further plateaus that are otherwise inaccessable. You parkour; run, jump, climp, roll, and even build your way, your roads to other levels, other doorways, and other dimensions of Lemma… This game has excellent replay value, because you would never go about doing the same way twice, and you can go and explore at your own pace. BUT CAUTION - laying too many walls of engery ice may impede you from completing a level or even your ending, as the last level had done for me. There is no restart level, so you’ve got one shot to make it right. Save often at the beginning of each level and do not over-ride those saves until you are sure that you have not screwed up. [*Please note that I’ve personally have over 100 hours of gameplay at the end of the game, but am stuck on the last level, because I did just that and it’s impossible to undo (destruction) all your previous construction! And I am going to restart the whole game completely over to get my ending I so deserve. Because knowing is half the battle!!!] Other than that, and a bit of confusion of what or where you are in reference to exactly where you are to go next, with so many countless doors and open world, YOU ARE VIRTUALLY AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE! Be prepared to be sucked into another dimension on the very precipice to soar to the heavens. I highly recommend this game, and again the replay value alone could and should give you an indication of just how enjoyable this game can be. ^5

Three Pros, Three Cons

Cons:

-The only really big flaw in this game - It’s veeerry easy to get lost. You WILL lose track of where to go next several times. There’s a large open world but no system of objectives and little or no guidance whatsoever. I got very frustrated even though I had already beaten the demo.

-The protagonist (you) act like a jerk sometimes. There’s a phone where you receive a bare minimum of guidance for the first couple of levels, with a simple dialogue system with between one and three choices. Typically the choices are either “I need help” or “fuck off, I don’t need your help”.

I really like this game!! It definitely took a little bit for me to get the hang of, but once I got the controls down, I was good to go!! It took me a few tries to get all the data cubes on level 2, but now that I’ve collected all for level 1 and 2, I’m challenging myself to see how fast I can complete each level WHILE collecting all the data cubes. I hope more levels come to this game, the art is super cool and the game runs really nicely!!

Ninja Pizza Girl

Ninja Pizza Girl

Color me amused. I am not someone who considers themselves good enough to be a speedrunner. I never will and am at peace with that. I may have been as a youngster but not anymore. However, if I were to pick up a game and recommend it to them and players like me it’d be Ninja Pizza Girl. This may well be one of the more underappreciated games released in the past twelve months.

Ninja Pizza Girl is a game that I’ve had sitting on my wishlist since its release last September. That’s really not saying much as I tend to have a wishlist containing every game that has trading cards that I don’t own. And so it sat there until I was recently recommended the game by a regular Steamified reader. He suggested that I may want to feature it given the popularity of the genre among readers. I didn’t even know that the game was funded by the Queensland State Government, the state in which I live. I’m particularly critical of games that are from the place I call ‘home’. This is because I don’t want my personal cheerleading to persuade you to buy a game you’d be unhappy with. However, due to how much fun I actually did have with the game it’s impossible not to recommend it to you.

Me: Ninjas and Pizza? This is basically every mans dream combination.

Distant voice: What about the girl?

Me: Gemma? Oh she’s cool, BUT THE PIZZA! mouthwater intensifies

Ninja Pizza Girl is a game about a girl named Gemma, who helps her dad deliver pizza… the cool way, by jumping over roof tops like a true ninja. But Megaco, a big company who monopolises the industry in the game, hired ninjas to stop Gemma from delivering pizzas (ps: the ninjas are jerks).

Assassin’s Creed® Chronicles: China Review

The fight continues…

Some key points that this game offers:

  1. Stunning 2.5D gameplay mechanics

  2. Multiple planes to navigate on

  3. A new and unique arsenal at your disposal

Gameplay & Controls:

The standard layout is advised against. The way the controls are configured for Mouse and Keyboard users is not the greatest. Fortunately, you have the means to change the button loadout to a more comfortable experience. Playing with a controller works just as well if that is your preferred method.

The last mysterious Assassin’s Creed

There is no way I won’t recommend China, it is a great AC experience for those who care about the first two games, despise its flaws. Ezio trained Shao Jun, the most stylish assassin since Altair, performing graceful stunts to kill and then vanishing like a ghost, including a feet-dagger. It is no easy task to go classic, back again as it was in the past, the game is pseudo 3D side-scrolling that looks like Chronicles of Sub-Zero. It isn’t less complex than a full third person 3D game and can find its place on best AC games, maybe its just not enough for the setting. What really caught my attention the main character has the best voice acting on any AC to date and it is a waste to see that character squandered away with just a single game.

The King’s Bird

The King’s Bird

There’s some short rundown of the basic features down at the bottom if that what you’re looking for in reviews.

The strongest argument for playing The King’s Bird would most definetly be the unique platforming experience.

It might not be the most polished or the most award winning game, but unlike a lot of the games the developers listed in the credits as inspirations, it is less tied to conventional platforming mechanics because the cape is the main part of the whole momentum based experience, save for a few levels that disable it so you could put it in perspective. As wonderful games like Celeste would be, they’re still using the more conventional platforming mechanics like wall climbing/jumping double jump/air dash and the like, while The King’s Bird uses those more conventional mechanics as means to get a bit more speed to do the flying with your cape.

I believe I can fly!

Taking control of a young girl, all you wish for is to fly and travel to your heart’s content. There’s a problem, though. The town you currently reside in has been turned into a cage due to a magical barrier surrounding it. No one can’t get out and nothing can go in, other than the King. One day, you happen to be right there when he comes into the cage and follow him. Eventually, you find out what gave the King the ability to fly and walk out of the cage and take the incentive to give it to yourself. After a little argument with the King, you head straight out of the cage you despised to achieve your dream. From then on, the story steps aside for the gameplay with only hints peppered in till the end.
