BSurfing

BSurfing

Pretty good game, fun mechanics, but the only thing I miss is more content. At this stage in this game’s development, the game lacks the amount of content that is necessary to keep the player engaged for more than a few days. But still pretty fun, especially for a game in this stage of development.

Right off the bat, the port is a bit of a mess, so here are a couple of tips:

  1. If the game outright doesn’t start, include the .exe (or the entire game folder) in your antivirus AND firewall exceptions.

  2. There is a “corrupted save” bug that has persisted since launch. Even if you’ve never played the game before, it will warn you of corrupted save data. Even if you deleted them, they will reappear on your next launch. Additionally, you can’t manually save or load, or the game will crash. The reason for this is that the game doesn’t play well with Steam Cloud. Disable Steam Cloud from the game’s Steam properties window, then go to “C:/Users/ username /AppData/Local/Sunset/Saves/ id " and delete “steam_autocloud.vdf”. This should fix the problem with both dummy corrupted save data and your own save data getting corrupted. It will also allow manual saving and loading. /id /username

BRINK

BRINK

Fight for your side, fight for your future, fight for your life.

BRINK is a brilliant game launched in 2011 when the market was saturated with shooters from every major and minor developer offering very little over their predecessors than a graphics ‘upgrade’, unfortunately this meant BRINK was and still is overlooked by many.

What set BRINK apart from other shooters, and still does is a fluid movement mechanic [S.M.A.R.T], its equal rarely seen in games even now in 2020.

Combine this with the great mix of classes, guns and the objective based maps playable form both sides, it’s a wonder BRINK never took over a larger portion of the market, and unfortunately means it’s been left to quietly sit in the background, a gem of the past, buried beneath the yearly copy and paste FPS games from big publishers promising the world.

Well, Game went Dead quite fast, and Promised more than it could hold, but it is a solid game, not good, but not terribly bad.

there are 4 classes, and while everyone has it own set of skills, you can play like you want, you can be a skinny soldier who runs aross the map like the TF2 scout giving ammo to everyone, a heavy spy with a minigun who disguises himself as an enemy, or just a averagely bulid medic with a shotgun, and you got quite a nice collection of cloths, so you can make your own unique character, may it be a street-cop, an engineer, or a heavy SWAT-Like Unit, and color the uniform how you want, as i said, your own unique character,

Grapple Hoops

Grapple Hoops

This game is pretty cool.

Grappling Hoops plays like a Spider-Man NBA Jam, where you swing around with a grappling hook and use a basketball to score hoops / dunks and take out enemies.

This gameplay feels very fun and energetic and really emphasizes speed and precision.

Unfortunately a good number of levels are rather boxed-in to really grapple around quickly, that’s doesn’t make them bad levels, but they don’t play to the main mechanic of the game making them a bit out of place.

That said, I believe there will be enough levels with variety to satisfy all the game-play styles that the game offers.

I love this game. There are a few bugs and problems, which is to be expected with a game that has released today. Andrew nailed the combat and mechanics down, all though some of the story mode levels don’t fit the game(Their very small and cluttered, allows them to be prettier but you get stuck on small little props) I think with levels more like the floor is lava, and the original demo ones the game will be perfect. Bosses are really cool, all though I expected that I would have to perfectly dodge the hammer, and then dunk on it, instead of throwing a basket ball at it which can hit it anywhere. The mech enemy I was able to cheese by constantly grapple kicking, and tossing the basket ball. The droid boss however was really fun. It allowed me to pick up great speeds, and it was super fun dodging the bullets. Going to graphics this game is beautiful. I love the cartoon/toon shader. It looks great. I will end my review here, and my rating is 8/10.

Neon Tail

Neon Tail

The game is slowly getting better but there are 3 major problems that make it difficult to recommend - the acceleration on the slopes, optimization, and general lack of meaningful content. Some people also mentioned that controls are not good - that is not the full truth, I think the problem with controls is mostly coming from issues in the environment and not from skating mechanics that work fine when mastered. There are many parts in the city where you will have awkward platforming due to having multiple sticky zones in small proximity or invisible walls, making it nearly impossible to fully control the character. It’s not a problem in areas with more space, after playing 7+ hours I can execute platforming very consistently (it just has a learning curve). On that note, I would not recommend forcing new players to do tasks in small streets, or polish that level design so you not constantly hitting weird artefacts that you can’t see. Now the game feels kinda clunky at first because it prevents you from instantly stopping to show momentum, you have to make u-turns instead by spinning and using that momentum, which is kinda the main gimmick in the game, you are roller skating after all.

I may not have too much time in the game but I’ve been occasionally playing for about a year now. While the movement feels sluggish in the beginning and takes a bit to get used to, its a unique feel that rewards quick reactions and improvisation to continue the flow of grinds and tricks. And the new September update greatly improved the game including a mini map with icons and the ability to travel to certain points on the map by bus, a new take on the upgrade system that is more straight forward and removes the need to choose between better stats or fun abilities, and a revamp of the current story and missions that greatly improve the new player experience. While still a work in progress game, it has quite a bit offer to those looking for a inline skating game that scratches the “you know what” itch.

Freon

Freon

Lucky me has the dubious honour of writing the first review for Freon.

Freon is a 2 player split screen retro pixel platformer brawler from serial asset/template flippers, wow wow Games, who do very little but dump GameMaker Studio and other game construction kit template flips onto Steam as nasty cash grabs.

In the case of Freon, I’m not sure where they ripped this off from but we should expect it’s another asset flip because of the terrible past history of this “developer”. It’s a basic 2D retro pixel brawler with a twist, it’s split screen local multiplayer. They call it “hotseat”, but that’s not how hot seat games work, so I guess they probably didn’t look too deep into the game template they ripped off before they did.

Overview

Youropa is a 3D puzzle game where you must defy the laws of gravity to reach your goal. Walking on walls, upside down, on your side, at ridiculous heights, will have your senses mixed up and confused. On a few occasions I had to stop playing the game because I felt a bit sick. The game really portrays a sense of height as you walk around on ledges and walls looking down at the scenery below.

Second Update

I’d like to keep the original review in tact so future viewers can see the full context and timeline of the events that took place. To summarize, the developer saw my review and responded with patches much faster than I would have ever expected. In the comments I called the response unprecedented, and I’ll echo that here.

When I review a game I’m never going in to that with the hope of punishing the dev or game. In my opinion, the absolute best outcome one could hope for is for them to care and respond positively to criticism which happened here.
