Now, Part 2 of the revisions. To recap after the 1st stalker game revision….this is based on the vanilla experience.

Ah, the prequel. Also, the game that the stalker community thought was forgettable. Me? I personally LOVED this game. Sure, it’s missing a few things….namely hunger, and an all-around creepiness with some of the environments. But to counter, this game introduced some features that proved to be worthwhile; for instance, the weapon and armor upgrades and repair. Do the weapons and armor still degrade? Yes, but now you can enhance them with more armor plates, flex the durability, and even add protection against anomalies. It’s needed because if you ask me, this is the hardest of the 3 stalker games. Just as is with the first game, once you get to a certain point, there’s no turning back. So, be prepared for ANY situation again.

This classic game works great in Linux with using a proton 3.16 but you have to make some tweaks to fix fullscreen/window issues:

1. set launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% in game’s properties

2. launch protontricks 20510 vd=1920x1080 windowmanagerdecorated=n windowmanagermanaged=n with your screen resolution to place the game in special borderless window

Game is good, it has a good story, but there are many unresolved bugs:

  • to fix bug with USB flash drive I was obliged to unpack game’s resources and manually edit a script to add quest item into the inventory. This is the shame for devs! howto

RONIN: Two Souls

Played through the whole first Chapter.

Positives:

  • The combat and equipment system in this game is very good.

  • I really liked exploring the island and having random encounters where I have to make decisions.

  • The graphics are great, there are some things to be fixed yet, but this is an early access game!

  • The story is good and has you wanting to explore more and get to know the whole story.

What can be done better:

  • The walking feels a bit chunky, especially with the carts.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl is slavjank at its finest. While the game has aged relatively well, one must still keep in mind that this is a game produced with shoestring budget and had a somewhat troubled development cycle. The caveats in mind, STALKER is an excellent semi-open world shooty-survival-y romp with a decent story to it. The story is told through a few cutscenes, but mostly through either someone radioning you and telling something has happened, or through a dialog box before or after a mission.

Honestly an absolute legend all around, theres always things you’ve missed or hidden spots you havent experienced after you’ve played the game leagues of times, and the lore only goes deeper from here. One of my favorite games of all time, and the beginning to a legendary series.

Tunguska: The Visitation

Tunguska: The Visitation

This game is very hard, but in a strategic way. It requires no aiming skill or reflex, and you have plenty of time thinking about what to do to solve each combat scenario. Sometimes it’s more straight forward, and other times you have to die a few times to figure out the right way. It’s all about attention to details - some enemies wear armors, for example, and you can tell it from their appearance. But if you ignore that intel and just start shooting without the right kind of ammo, you’ll just be waiting ammo. There is a lot of details in the dialogues and journals, and you must pay pretty close attention to not miss important information.

6 hours in, and I really like this game. I first heard about it a couple of years ago on a Stalker forum, and my first impression from the previews was good. Now that I’ve had a chance to play the game, that first impression has been reinforced. Tunguska’s setting is moody and atmospheric. The gunplay and stealth are straightforward but challenging, and the overall result is a fun top-down twin-stick “shooter.” Quotes because there’s more to this than running and gunning – there are some light RPG elements, and a heavy element of exploration.

A Winter Story – Original Edition and Highly Difficult

A Winter Story – Original Edition and Highly Difficult

Curator Review:

Finding You Before Spring Coming is a Indie RPG, that feels like the classic Gameboy days.

You wake up to a calm winter’s day, as you take a look out your bedroom window - you see that it is snowing - the sun gleaming through the window. You feel calm and collected, ready for a big day of adventure.

The times of war are over. The Children are free to live a happy childhood, with the young people heading to School to study. Everyone else disappears to the City to find work, some choose to become Traders, others Banking.

What can I say about A Winter Story?

A Winter Story is a game I received through Curator Connect, and a game I would have otherwise not picked up. This game gave me feelings of “made with RPG Maker”, which means I must try it out since they are trying to make their game better than I am. While this is admirable, I didn’t enjoy my experience, and had to put the game down not even 40 minutes in.

First off, I had a hard time discerning whether this game was about to be some kind of H-game with a cutesy RPG cover. The game is translated, and while I’m unsure from which Asian language it is definitely-not translated professionally into English. This causes hilarious mix-ups once you’ve realized that the game is not about selling men into sexual slavery at the age of 29, and often leaves you laughing while holding your head.

This game is great!

The game does a great job of taking an idea of a society like the one seen in movies like BladeRunner (or fuckin Pluto Nash) and expands on it. The world has enough new elements to make it stand out.

The main characters are great and you really do end up loving them. The side characters are also great in how funny or wacky they are while sometimes being effectively used symbolically to highlight real world issues and topics.

While the controls of the ships can be a little wonky everything else is pretty spot on.

I had my reservations about this game to begin with, I thought it was going to be yet another 8 bit style game trying to be something more impressive. Well, I was quite wrong, this is a good game with a good storyline and impressive graphics with out of this world lighting. My only criticism is the rigidness of the story every answer and every question is already planned out, now normally I wouldn’t mind that layout but I feel the game deserves more. There is a lot to love about this game, I felt sorry for control and was invested in Rania’s life enough to keep playing. A good game with good characters and fantastic lighting, man I love that lighting :-). One last thing to add, the city is glorious, fascinating to drive around and big, very very big.

Fisherones

Fisherones

[Quick review of the game]

Things I personally enjoy:

Perma Death aspect - If you love the thrill of having your progress at risk then you’re definitely going to enjoy Fisherones. It rewards good play and you can choose to invest in either glass cannon builds(crit chance mutagens and stamina regen) or more defensive ones(poison when attacked,hp & dodge chance mutagens). Game also offers a revive mutagen that you can use to cheat death once, extremely useful and saved me from a couple deaths before that otherwise woulda made me pretty sad

Real player with 11.2 hrs in game

Simple, cute, and fun. Fisherones offers a little bit of everything that it claims and manages to keep all ages interested and enjoying the fast-paced game play. The Perma Death does make it a bit repetitive after multiple long games, starting all over can be very disheartening. If you enjoy exploring and unlocking in a unique atmosphere that offers a different take on the Rogue-like genre then check this one out.

Here is some game play footage of my daughters and I checking it out for the first time.

Heaven’s Rising

Heaven’s Rising

“Heaven’s Rising” is an open-world action RPG. Its actions unfold at the time of the decline of the Christian faith when she began to be considered noble persons only as a way of governing the people. You play as one of the angels of the “Aspida” group - a special unit of the Heavenly Host, which is engaged in protecting the universe from the confusion of the Expanses. You and your brothers and sisters were sent to the human world to find out the reasons for the massive appearance of demons and put an end to it. In the course of your investigation, you will encounter a wide variety of people, from a simple artisan to a noble young aristocrat, where any of your actions will have consequences. Explore a world full of dangerous ruins, deep forests, and places are forgotten by the Father.

KEY FEATURES

PLAY AS AN EXPERIENCED DEMON FIGHTER

You completed the Great War of the Expanses, where you fought against demons and titans. During the elimination of the consequences of this war, you showed yourself as an incredibly talented demon hunter, which is why you became one of the first members of the Aspid group. For thousands of years, your task has been to protect the universe from the penetration of beings from other Spaces.

  • Send demons and sinners where they belong. Do not spare your enemies, for this can entail consequences.

  • Help people, because the stories of the old hunter by the fireplace are not always pure fiction.

  • Do human work. The world lives its own life and people are ready to pay for the solution of their problems to anyone who can help them. The money earned, in turn, will help you quickly get hold of better equipment.

EXPLORE THE OPEN WORLD

The world around does not stand still but lives its own life.

  • Often, turning off the road, you can find something curious that can serve as the beginning of a whole story.

  • For thousands of years of life, you have learned a lesson - there is no pure good or evil. Make decisions that you yourself feel are right and accept their consequences.

  • The Universe is a much more subtle matter than a person can imagine. It is lucky that you are not, because angels are able to fully feel any changes in the world around them, which can lead you to new places that are invisible at first sight.

CHOOSE YOUR WAY

Perhaps during your adventure, you will change your outlook on the world and want to change your life. Become a hero of Heaven, solving the riddle of the appearance of demons, go to the side of Hell and help former enemies, or leave everything and live your own life away from this endless war. What to do is up to you.

  • Develop your character according to your preferences - use exclusively the capabilities of Heaven or Hell, or correctly combine both elements.

  • Play the selected type. You yourself choose who to be, and not by discovering new abilities and moving sliders, but by deed. All your actions will affect the state of mind, which will directly affect the possible development of the character and the attitude of brothers and sisters towards him.

  • Get to know the world of people better. Over the centuries of work in the “Aspida” group, you thought that you knew human nature, but the new mission requires you to stay in the world of people much longer, which will allow you to open them from a new side.
