Tumbleweed Express

Tumbleweed Express

Hi, I just played this game and I can’t believe it.

People are noting that it’s “ONLY 7-10 Hours of Gameplay”.

Only? The game is $5. The cheapest McDonalds meal you can buy is $5.69. Have you ever eaten a Mc Donald’s meal for 7-10 hours? More like 10 minutes. Have you ever played a pinball game for 10 hours with $5? Have you ever done ANYTHING for 10 hours of entertainment for $5? They are basically charging you .50/hr to play this game.

The art style is very, VERY good. You are treated to authentic train maps and rotating items in the game during loading screens (like in Skyrim). The voice acting is really cute and amusing, and MAN the music. The music is absolutely phenomenal, it’s BETTER than the music in most professionally released games.

Tumbleweed Express is a rail shooter with tower defense elements. A rail shooter where you protect a train on rails….yup. Anyways, you control a 360 degree rotating turret on top of a caboose in an old west steampunk world where blimps and dirigibles have overtaken railroads as the main method of cargo transportation. You inherit the tumbleweed express from a dead family member and as the new owner it’s your job to ride the rails to glory.

The graphics fit the theme of the game prefectly and so does the music. It also sounds like the narrator is using a fake southern accent and that’s a bit off-putting. Game progression is stage based with the option to replay each stage as many times as you want. I’m glad you’re able to do this because the difficulty curve is sharp and soon enough you’ll become overwhelmed by all the crap coming at ya from all around ya. Upgrades include cool stuff like being able to buy more cars for your train so you can add automated turrets. You can also hire engineers that’ll repair your traincars and different types of gunners that will also shoot stuff on their own. There’s also turret upgrades and different types of turrets you can purchase such as cannons. I’m not too far in it but it looks like there’s a lot to this game. Each stage has multiple side-objectives you can enable to get a bigger reward if you complete them however it also increases the difficulty of the stage. And since you can replay each stage you can experiment with those to see if the risk is worth the reward. There are secrets hidden in each stage too that will uncover more of the story but they aren’t necessary.

I played an earlier demo at Seattle Indies Expo during PAX last year and it’s really cool to see how far it’s come. It’s also been fun to follow it’s development and read about the story on how the dev got here.

As for the game, it’s really polished and clean and plays well. The graphics aren’t the most detailed but the cartoon-style look works well for the game and makes it easy to focus on things like the level layout and which enemies you’re facing. The controls are simple and intuitive and just work. I’m playing on Windows MR and haven’t had any issues, even with the bow which can sometimes be hit or miss. The gameplay is simple but has a lot of depth to discover as you go. There were levels that I lost badly (and quickly!) but was then immediately able to win after mixing up my boosts and strategy a bit on the next try. I also appreciate that the game does a good job of introducing you to everything bit by bit while still letting you play the game and keep having fun along the way.

In PlanTechTor you jump into the role of the Sole gate keeper to the Castle in an immersive VR fusion of in-depth strategy and high-octane action! You can design weapon load-outs with several different abilities and an endless amount of weapon combinations that effects the damage modifiers of each weapon. The game is simple in design but real deep in character. The graphics are clean and not demanding for smooth FPS. With rock solid gameplay mechanics and built in options like in game height adjustment so the whole family can play with out having to leave the game, to include multiple languages to cater to the masses. The developer left no stone upturned. I would recommend this game to anybody. Check out my quick look video right here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNMlYKwzPN4&t=22s

BeachHead 2020

BeachHead 2020

This review is for the non-VR game.

I bought the early access BH2020 as soon as it came out and I’ve been enjoying it immensely. I thought BH2002 was a blast so I was excited for this newer version.

The game has a new and detailed look compared to the earlier version. The graphics are nice as are the sounds. I’ve only encountered minor glitches such as the game loosing count of health and a stutter with aiming, but they were quickly resolved when reported to the Devs.

The game is still “early-access” so issues are still being adjusted. I’ve found the Developers to be very attentive to any concerns that are communicated to them. It sounds like they have a huge and fascinating game besides the stationary shooting station out now.

A REAL review on BeachHead 2020

First off, looking at the negative reviews, these people are not giving it time. Almost all if not all played the game for less than an hour if that much (look at their hours on record). With that being said, this IS still in very Early Access, meaning that it will be less than perfect as the company works out the bugs, kinks and adds more features.

I have found a few issues like the aiming is kind of choppy when zooming in. But really I am not holding this against the company. As of writing up this review, the game version is at 1.1.1. So in time I am sure these minor things will be fixed.

Defentron

Defentron

Defentron is a pretty relaxing game, despite being a tower defense. The retro look and sound are well done and suitably nostalgic, without needing to rely on gratuitous particle effects, waves, or flashes like some other retro games or genres like to use. The different types of towers all have fun and unique properties, and the enemy variety and additions from stage to stage kept me thinking a good amount, rather than finding one strategy I liked and just using that on everything.

Being able to power up a given turret in a pinch was cool too, but if I have one criticism about that mechanic’s game balance, it’s that it feels necessary to use that function on the basic turrets (at least for the early game), which destroys them afterwards, and it felt like a bit of a waste. That is, instead of trying to plan out placement or turret types to counter different contingencies, I felt like I had to budget my resources to account for “necessary losses” rather than just “acceptable losses,” which made it feel less like a puzzle game at those parts, and more like the traditional gratuitous enemy spam TD games that I don’t like nearly as much as this one.

Defentron is a fun tower defense, and certainly a challenging one. Many levels can really get you stuck until you figure out the right sequence of towers and upgrades to buy, but that difficulty gives the game a lot more longevity and replayability, specially if you are going to try and complete all achievments.

It took me 14 hours to complete everything the game had to offer, which I feel is a good value for the pricetag

Galactic Rangers VR

Really, really, like this game. It’s the perfect game for VR, makes you feel like you’ve been pulled inside an 80’s arcade game. Playing on the Quest via Oculus Link, it freezes a lot (total loss of data between headset and pc, game continues to play, so it’s just too much data for the cable I believe) and I have a substantial rig that can handle anything. Playing via wireless (Virtual Desktop) no freezes, but there is lag when the screen gets real busy. Overall, it’s one of the best games I’ve played in VR.

I have 3H in the game and this is my review.

Motion sickness : YES is there, from the first 1 second u push play

Fun: After you get used to the motion sickness, it is really fun but is just a 15 minutes game, i only played 3h cuz i’m insane and i want to do all the difficulties (also i was streaming and i looked at chat a lot)

Quality: The objects are far away sow i cant really tell but 2 of the 3 attacks ware not even 3D, 1 was an orange png bulb of light, the other was blu…………….

Gameplay: There is 1 tipe of gun with a few “tipes of bullets” that you “unlock” as a temporary power during the run. But is ok, really fun arcade stile. Reload? no, you do not reload. Aim? It aim assists you…
