Hyper Fighters
Well, this without any doubt is one of the worst games in my steam library. I got it as a part of a dirt-cheap bundle, so I don’t really complain about wasted money, but this game is just ridiculous.
When I saw the screenshots my first thoughts were “Well, it looks like a nice little flying arcade”, then I noticed the “rail shooter” part, but even this piece of news didn’t discourage me… But then I tried to play it.
Terrible graphics are one thing, I am tolerant to all that stuff, but when the resolution is fixed at 800x600, so you can’t play without your eyes starting to bleed is just beyond good and evil. The design of levels is “Hey, Ma, look, I’m using 3DsMAX!"-tier, however boss models and designs are not half bad, I have to admit. Basically it’s the only good thing in entire game: it has no plot, no good gameplay as it’s hard to dodge all of enemy projectiles, however bosses are too easy, so even the simplest balance is absent too. All the levels can be beaten in a couple of hours and the only thing that can drive you to play more is beating high scores. But why would anyone want to beat one’s score in this piece of shit? It’s just what people call ‘lazy’ in any way possible. I see no point of this being ported from WII.

That’s right, this is a thumbs up. Now I’m not recommending that anyone actually pay money for this game. That would be a very silly thing to do. But if you are among the thousands who already own the game from a bundle or a giveaway, I do recommend that you give it a shot. It can be fun, as long as you are aware of the following:

This isn’t a flight sim, it’s a rail shooter. There is no freedom of movement, other than dodging enemy planes & projectiles

You use arrow keys to dodge, the mouse to shoot, B to replenish missiles (usually not available), and R in conjunction with the arrow keys to barrel roll. Yes, you have to use your third hand for this last one.

Astrodogs
TL;DR : Never played a StarFox game, but this goofy, chill little dog game makes me want to.
What is this funny little dog shooty game?
Astrodogs is a 3D, forward moving, on-rails shooter with enough charm to change your attitude for the entire day. The game revolves around 8 or so small stages with unique aesthetics, designs, music, enemies and bosses. (My personal favourites are Barkstille and Barkadia.)
I’ve never played something like this before, is it difficult?
At first, yes. But if you keep at it, you’ll learn the levels, you’ll learn the 5 techniques you need to know (4 different “special” attacks and a bullet-time mechanic). The bosses all have a gimmick to them which at first, is SUPER annoying, because you’ll be tanking damage and dealing none, but you’ll figure it out and feel like even Einstein is no match for your superior intellect.

As a die hard fan of Star-Fox. There hasnt been any games to come out that capture the on rails space shooting magic. This game does! I love the levels, music, controls and overall humour. A real treat!

City Air Battle
City Air Battle is an arcade style flight shooting and racing game. In the game, you will fly a fighter over the real city. You can not only have a fierce air battle with the enemy aircraft, but also compete with the opponent in the air, experience the immersive 360 degree free flight and enjoy the fun of flying in the city skyline.
The operation and playing method of the game are very simple, and any player can get started quickly. You only need to use the direction key to control the flight direction of the aircraft, use the shift key to accelerate, and use the Z key to fire shells. Some levels only need to use the direction key or click the mouse to pass.
The game contains 6 cities, all of which are modeled and produced according to real large cities (Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Seattle, San Francisco, Chicago and New York). All buildings and streets are the same as those of real cities.
There are more than 60 kinds of aircraft in the game, all of which take the real classic aircraft as the model, including fighters, armed helicopters, large transport aircraft and bombers.
Players can control 8 different planes. By default, they can use 3 planes, and 5 planes are waiting for players to unlock after obtaining points in the game.
There are 24 levels in the game. Each city contains 4 levels and 4 game modes. You can choose any city or level to play the game.
Each level has a score ranking list, which allows players to compete with netizens all over the world and encourage players to constantly break the record of the highest score.
Game mode:
Racing mode
Flying through the whole city along the specified path, you need to surpass or destroy all your opponents to win the championship. The shorter the time, the higher the score.
Path shooting mode
The aircraft flies automatically along the path. You just click the mouse to shoot down the enemy aircraft. The higher the hit rate, the higher the score.
Collision mode
Operate the aircraft to hit the enemy aircraft at high speed and avoid buildings. The shorter the time, the higher the score. You can experience the pleasure of flying at high speed between skyscrapers and hitting the enemy aircraft.
Flight shooting mode
Manually control the direction of aircraft flight and the angle of weapon launch, use missiles, machine guns, rockets and other weapons to destroy enemy aircraft shuttling between cities, and double the scores of destroying enemy high-value targets (large transport aircraft, bombers, early warning aircraft, etc.). Players need to fly the aircraft to move flexibly in high-rise buildings, avoid the attack of enemy aircraft guns, and use smart steering to avoid missiles.
