Praetorians - HD Remaster

Praetorians - HD Remaster

First of all, congratulations on creating a HD remaster, looks fantastic!

Now the bitter part

The game could use something new after 17 years. A new pack of maps? Additional campaign maps? Announcer for War Chariots?

In many ways old moded version does thing better, new races and that.

Game also lacks siege maps, it’s a shame to see that not implemented yet.

Also you could’ve added a slider for the amount of units you can command.

The game wont last long if it doesn’t get mod support, that is for sure, we all know community is sometimes the best source of content and I’m certain that making this game mod friendly will make it even more successful.

Introduction

Years ago, the real-time strategy games consumed my time a lot, as I at least tried the vast majority of them. Praetorians, from 2003, was no exception, but it did not rank up among my favourites, so I was curious to see how I will enjoy this remastered version. Well, I got bored with the game during the first hours, but I still tried to find a way to like Praetorians. And while the second half of the campaign got my hopes up, it still was not enough for me to recommend this game.

BlackChain

BlackChain

Great game. Pathing and controls are super smooth. It is incredible that this is made by a single person. Only in terms of features, you notice that it’s just a single dev. It is only one race and multiplayer is only possible through LAN (virtual LAN for online play) and 2v2 still has some issues with desyncs. But everything that is in the game is unique and high quality. I really enjoy the micro in this game. It has a bit of a modern Starcraft: BroodWar feeling but it is still quite different. With the low price of only 4€, there is no reason not to get this game. The AI is pretty good even without cheating and tries to actively hunt down your workers with air units for example. The dev deserves the support so he is able to create more content for this. (I have received the key from a giveaway which has nothing to do with the dev)

Review by Gaming Masterpieces - The greatest games of all time on Steam.

|

Real-time strategy, once the second most important genre after FPS games, is dead, isn’t it? While the few releases of recent years were mostly below average, there are some exceptions. This is one.

Great indie real-time stragegy game, heavily inspired by the seminal Starcraft. Build structures, build units, mine ressources and crypto-currency, wipe your enemies off the map. Fully voiced units and 12 campaign missions (all unlocked from the beginning), even a network option. Great little game - what a nice surprise!

Fury of Dracula: Digital Edition

Fury of Dracula: Digital Edition

I hadn’t played this game since the 1st edition that came out in the 80s. Back then three Hunters chased a nearly-impotent Dracula around the map, eventually slaying him. Nearly every time, anyway. Dracula had hidden movement behind a screen, and left some rumors in his wake, but the damnable hunter cards would give him away at horrible times, and if you encountered him he would get caught during the day more than half the time (you rolled a die, but the hunters had more cards) - a vampire during the day is as feeble in combat as you would think. We called it “The Frustration of Dracula.” He was fun to play, but it was very difficult to win with him. Still, I have fond memories.

While no game is ever going to translate perfectly from the board to digital I have to tip my hat to Nomad games for taking on Fury of Dracula, not just for doing it, but doing a very capable job.

*When you read negative reviews about the lack of 1 vs 4 during initial roll out of the game, I have to point out that this was clearly posted on the store page well in advance and in the discussions. It shouldn’t have been a surprise to anyone and it’s a poor excuse to give a thumbs down. It was perfectly clear and the developers have repeatedly stated why they released it as 1 vs 1 and 1 vs AI initially, along with their plans to work on and release 1 vs 4. Understandably, the developers want to get it right, so we just need to be patient. Their professionalism and consistent feedback to our inquiries leads me to believe they will get it done.

Nordic Warriors

Nordic Warriors

As someone who played Myth 2 and Myth 3 years ago(But unfortunately missed playing the first game), I’m still waiting with great anticipation for those games to be either remastered or adapted for modern platforms in order to be able to play them once again. In all the years since Myth 3 came out, there has not been a release of any RTS game that comes close to replicating the unique style of that trilogy. Until Nordic Warriors, that is.

I came across this game completely by accident while routinely browsing on Humble Store, and as someone who very much loves everything with Scandinavian themes(Which the developers did a fantastic job of adapting and implementing in the game) I went and checked the game’s page on Steam. Upon seeing its striking resemblance to the Myth series from the screenshots, even before reading the game’s description which explicitly mentions it as inspiration, I instantly downloaded the demo, played it, and I was not disappointed. After playing the first three levels on the demo, instantly purchased the full game, went on to continue right from where I left off and finished it all two days later.

Nordic Warriors draws heavily on Myth games developed by Bungie back in the mid- to late-90s. The developer (a 2-person team!) of Nordic Warriors even stated that they were tired of waiting for more games like Myth to be released, so they set out to build their own. If you loved Myth, I feel you’ll also love Nordic Warriors, but this is no Myth clone. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of similarities to Bungie’s series, but enough unique ideas that Nordic Warriors can stand alone.

The gameplay is real time tactical (RTT). If you’ve never played a game like this, it boils down to starting with a limited number of units per level. Positioning your units, timing attacks, choosing stylistic matchups, and finding unit synergies are all factors that determine success of failure. Your units gain experience which makes them tougher, more accurate, and generally “better” in different ways depending on type of unit. This adds a fun facet that makes the loss of even one unit really impactful. Not only do you have to wait until the next level starts to get a fresh unit, but that new unit is now the weak link in your crack team of warriors.

State of War : Warmonger / 蓝色警戒 (Classic 2000)

State of War : Warmonger / 蓝色警戒 (Classic 2000)

So this game is a lil younger than me, i’m 21 and I remember when I got this game from a carboot sale when I was around 9… Years pass by and i’m now 19 years old trying to find this game i used to play as a child… No idea what it’s called… just a vague idea what it looks like.

Then one day I just so happened to appear on a Facebook Marketplace ad “State Of War PC” - “$50(ish)” to some that sounds like a lot of money, however reliving a childhood memory has no price.

After looking around the internet to find “Warmonger” with no luck I actually PM’ed Cypron Studios (Who are now called Cypronia and took me ages to find that out) and asked them if they could add it to steam.

Real player with 76.6 hrs in game

I’m writing this review, because this is a game I truly believe in. I used to play this a lot of a child, and now it is available on steam. This is definitely not for everyone but for RTS players I think this game has something to offer.

The game includes the game state of war, but also a level pack which is where the warmonger part come in. Together it should be around 25 hours of content, but quality is more important then quality so let’s talk about that.

This is one of those games which basically have only gameplay to offer, story-wise it basically does not exist. The graphics are fine for such an old game. Everything else (like sound design etc.) is pretty unremarkable as well.
Game Overview
Battlefield with Many Enemies and Allies. Your soldiers will fight or retreat in battle using their own discretion. You watch over the actions of your troops and can either move characters that are in danger to safety or send a strong character to help defeat enemies and lead your army to victory.
Nyanco's Review
+ Nostalgia from classic Epic SRPG, FirstQueen series!ヽ(=´▽'=)ノ
[1] Intro
FirstQueen1 NEXT. This game is a remake of 『FirstQueen1』, released for PC-98 in 1988\. The developer is one of the oldest programmers who are active in the game industry. The FirstQueen series is a strategy RPG game featuring a game system in which many characters are active on one screen. In particular, FirstQueen4 was one of the best Japanese games representing the 1990s. Now, 30 years later, it has been remade and has come to us on Steam. What kind of game is this? Let's take a look at it with Nyanco-chan! (ฅ'ω'ฅ)

it is a good game but it has a pay to win aspect and i don’t like pay to win, if they remake the sequels they better not put in the pay to win crap.

Imperivm RTC - HD Edition “Great Battles of Rome”

Imperivm RTC - HD Edition “Great Battles of Rome”

This game has been out since 2005. The game concept is really good, you fight to conquer the map in real-time against your opponents in different modes from 1v1 to 4v4. You can also play against the IA, but it is so limited, after 5 hours you have already completed the adventures and scenarios that the game offers. The core of this game is the online mode. You can play with friends, members of the community, and even in tournaments organized by the community (the last one had $1200 in prizes). Sadly after the community gathered $74,000 (63,200 euros) through Kickstarter for the game developer to release the game through Steam and for them to FIX THE MULTIPLAYER, they released the game as it was, without any changes in the multiplayer. They promised to put some dedicated servers for the game, a matchmaking system, and even a small ranking system for the community, but they never did. Today you CAN’T PLAY ONLINE without the game lagging for 10 seconds every 5 minutes. The online experience is horrible and you can barely find players due to that issue.

Imperivm III is one of my childhood games and, in all seriousness, my favourite game ever.

The amount of hours I’ve spent on the game, playing online with friends and fighting in clan wars with one of the most active and dedicated communities I’ve ever seen, can only barely be summarized by my current playtime stated on steam.

Hence, you may ask, “Why are you negatively reviewing your favourite game?” in order to understand that, one must understand that this game, in the current state, presents a dissonance between the developer’s will and ideas, and the dedicated playerbase’s own ideas.

Another TD to scratch the itch. Wish the dev would release more maps, or put up an online leaderboard (this keeps pros trying to perfect strategies).

Sadly I didn’t know this game was released half a year ago, and I often looked at ‘Tower Defense’ genre in Steam. Maybe because this game wasn’t popular, so Steam hid it from me _

Another wish is for keyboard shortcuts to build towers. Since there’s no pause, if we’re reacting to the aliens, it would be quicker to plonk towers down without having to scroll through the tower list.

Real player with 28.0 hrs in game

This is actually a fun tower defense game. One downside, or plus depending on your point of view, each campaing mission has a set wave enemy generation and direction, so you can plan ahead if you play a mission over.

The music is repetative and so are the voice overs. Each enemy unit takes more damage each wave, so what once worked gets swarmed by increasingly useless damaging turrets.

You can designate what individual turrets do, such as target nearest to turret, closest to exit/entrance, weakest, strongest, fastest or slowest. Giving you a more custom targeting setup, since default behavior targeting is a bit awful.
