Keeper of the Labyrinth

Keeper of the Labyrinth

Keeper of the Labyrinth is an interactive fiction game about identity, self-discovery and learning to accept and overcome the flaws we find in ourselves.

You:

A young witch who, with the passing of your teacher last fall, must take on the mantle of Keeper of the Labyrinth.

The labyrinth:

A vast being which waits at the edge of the sea. It has been here longer than any can remember, and for as long, it has been the sacred duty of the village witch to explore its depths. But strange things happen within its halls, and that journey is not for the light-of-heart.

The solstice night:

It is the night of the winter solstice, the longest night of the year, and it is your turn to make the journey. Forced to eschew the festivities, you don your cloak and gather your tools of witchcraft: runes, candles, a piece of chalk, a wand, a knife. What rituals will take place within? What is your quarry, waiting in the centre, that your teacher once mentioned? And more pressing, perhaps: what watches you from the darkness?

Make your choices, find your path:

There are many paths through the labyrinth, many side chambers to explore and twists to find. Many beautiful realizations, strange encounters, and deep horrors await you at each turn. With each, find new truths about the labyrinth through which you pass, and perhaps, yourself. Your choices too, have consequences; are you too apathetic, rushing your task? too cowardly, avoiding difficult choices? or too doubtful, unsure of where you’re going?

Journal:

Retrace your steps with a dynamically updated journal and table of contents which keeps track of your version of the story, depending on the choices you make, and in which order.

Unlock a gallery of more than 14 hand-painted illustrations to accompany key scenes on your journey through the labyrinth.

Content warnings:

Offers a robust system of content warnings to pop up before possibly disturbing scenes.

Carefully crafted prose and music:

Original soundtrack composed by the author to accompany each scene in the story.

insanly catching and tough story especially the end in which

! baloo gets sliced up and it changes to the text panel were kenneth holds the corpse saying we beat the monster, that one hit really hard

it’s by far one of the best games i ever played, for everyone wondering, there isn’t any real gameplay it’s basically just a visual novel were you click from textpanel to textpanel

leisure playtime is around 1h, about ~5h to complete all endings

just noticed now that it’s free to play, so absolutly worth the time

Branching, fully voiced visual novel about a pair of kids and their troubled by monsters family.

Explores its somber, delicate themes in a smart and gentle way. To piece the plot together you’ll have to check out all the branches of the story, which took me around 3 hours and was entirely worth it.

Very solid writing, background music does a good job of building atmosphere.

Each ending has a unique music theme, and those songs are absolutely haunting.

If I really had to nitpick, English narrator’s delivery occasionally feels a bit off (he puts a lot of passion into “Thunder rumbled!” line though). Russian VO, on the other hand, is very good.

What a very non-linear text based quest that was. Truly captured the essence of what a non-linear text quest should be. I especially enjoyed the non-linear aspects along with the text based components. Every non-linear option was paired nicely with a text based option, making the story very whole.

Overall, I give it 10 non-linears out of 10 text quests.

Astonishing Baseball Manager 21

Astonishing Baseball Manager 21

Astonishing Baseball (or AB for friends) is not your usual baseball simulation game. It’s not only about tables full of players and stats. It’s about people! Well okay, you heard that line from your Economics 101 class already. But I promise, this game will be way more interesting! It’s like a narrative roguelike sports game, Seriously!

What’s new in AB21

Already an AB player? Here are some of the main new features:

  • Play historic seasons or try our brand new scenarios. There’s a challenge for every kind of coach!

  • Always play for the best team in the new career mode

  • A new minor team system, where you can hire your coach and train your rookies!

  • Edit the portrait of your favorite player, or import an online logo for your team!

  • Congratulate your starter, taunt your rival or ask your fans what to do with your new rookie thanks to the Bleachers message creator!

  • Hire a brand new coaching staff to get advice on contracts and strategies

  • Join the excitement of the draft thanks to the new Draft projections, or the top prospect interview

  • Enjoy a brand new history listing, retire your Hall of Famer number in the ballpark, or use the new player history to check past performances!

  • Pick the menu at your stadium, and hire a chef to get the prestigious ballpark awards!

  • Show who’s the boss in the new World Cup, or admire the best players in the Power Contest and Pitching Contest.

  • And more, like league records, improved game simulation, smarter AI, new awards, legendary players… Too much to describe here!

Fake (but real) baseball players

AB is about fake (sorry, virtual) baseball players. Some you’ll like, some you will hate, and a lot of them you will LOVE! That anonymous “Jim” guy at the top of your lineup? Give it a few minutes, and he will become your favorite player ever. Or maybe he’s actually very bad, and you’ll send him finish his career in your minor league team, because he disappointed you. Poor Jim…

And that starter, Sandy. Is he an ace or not? Well, maybe you should train him a bit. And make sure you have solid relievers to help him if a left-handed batter is giving him a headache. After all, you’re paying him 12M a year, that’s a lot! And he’s asking for an even bigger extension contract now. Not sure you’ll like Sandy after all… Oh but look, his nickname is “Cubbie”, that’s so cute!

Watch them evolve!

One of your tasks is to draft rookies. And once you’ve drafted your first prospect… Let’s call him John okay? Well, you’re going to be very interested in John’s life. Where to put him in the lineup? How much training does he need? Do I start him everyday, or does he need to go to the minor leagues first? Why is he suddenly struggling? Wait, it’s getting better… HE’S THE MVP NOW! But is he really worth 20M per year? See, it never stops!

The lineup of your dreams

Okay so the team is not too bad these days, but you want to do a big move and win the Baseball Cup. Is it time to do a big trade with another team? Or maybe it would be better to wait next year and sign a big free agent during the offseason? Or maybe do both? One thing is sure, building the lineup of your dream is actually super hard! And you haven’t even tested the “Extreme Mode” yet. Or maybe you want freedom and receive job offers from other teams too. In that case, the career mode is for you!

A living world

Astonishing Baseball features an artificial but living world. Fans are posting about the game and your brand new rookie. Journalists write articles about your starter’s last night performance. Players send you messages about their concerns or their contract. It’s all about baseball! Fortunately, all these people are very positive persons! Except if they complain about their contract. Or their role in the lineup. Or the team performance… Well, it could be worse. It’s not like they’re French and complain all the time, right?

For baseball fans and stats nerds

Astonishing Baseball is very easy to learn. If you know the game rules, you’ll know how to play! But if you’re a sabermetrics savant, you’ll find all kind of stats to satisfy your nerdy instinct! I even suggest to use wOBA. You don’t know what wOBA is? Don’t worry, according to very serious studies, about 99.999% of people don’t care about wOBA. Good news, right? And now you can even see the future thanks to our WAR projections!

Get international

Not enough talent in your league? Send your incredible and local scouts to find the best prospects in the world, and then invite the most promising player to your team! But be careful, even the best scouts can make mistakes… My favorite one is named “Francis Dupont”. Yes, he’s French, from Paris, and he’s always hyping up his prospects. Like “Look, I just saw that guy from Strasbourg for three minutes and I’m rating him 80/80 and he’s already in the Hall of Fame blablabla”. Best thing to do with Francis is to ask him to spend a bit more time on the prospect. Generally it ends with a final rating of 50+/80 and a simple “I told you so”. I really like you Francis, but if you’re reading this, do your job correctly please.

Live incredible stories

As a coach, you have a life too! In Astonishing Baseball, you can take your team to a burger restaurant, help local associations, but also meet your favorite author, become a rock star, visit Iceland and even marry the love of your life!

Apparently I have to put a disclaimer here. You’re not going to really meet the love of your life with this game. It’s like… Your in-game soulmate, okay?

If you like baseball, fantasy sports and simulations, or just good stories, you’ll love Astonishing Baseball Manager! I hope. If you don’t, I like messages!

Curiosity

Curiosity

“Curiosity killed the cat …” - says the main character of this story and “come between the bark and the tree”, because he knows that “… satisfaction brought it back.” He knows a lot of idioms and doesn’t believe in omens. He don’t gift you adversity or failure, when he crosses your road, but just living its life.

Curiosity can bring you back … or not. Would you like to check it?

This story is full of funny and sad moments. In some places, it is able to bring a smile or tears.

Star Story: The Horizon Escape

Star Story: The Horizon Escape

It’s killing me but I can’t give thumb up for this one, it is a good game but also buggy one.

First when I started this game I’ve got window with information “ops game crushed..” but funny thing is that you can just click on game window and continue playing it without problem, but this was the fist red light.

I was playing it for couple hours and it was fun but after couple resets of the story some relative parts gets more and more tedious, game sometimes even throw at you two exactly the same random encounter one after another but what really break game for me was… game breaking bug :) After another reset you start on the desert and after a while your character take out sand from his boot and teleport to base, problem is that after go out from the base I ended up just before checking bot for sand and automatically teleporting to base and no matter what I tried I was stuck in that loop only way out of this situation would be to start game once more and hope that I will not stuck somewhere again and I’m not looking forward to check my luck again.

Reminds me a lot of Stories: The Path of Destinies. Like on that game, you are trapped in a kind of Groundhog Day style time loop, where each time you die you come back to the start of the game, but with your items and some new knowledge from your previous life. The game has 24 endings, and in each one of them you die in the end. The goal of these endings is to find information. Once you find out all you need, then you can go back and do it properly, in a 25th, golden, ending.

The major difference between the games is on the gameplay. Whereas S:TPoD is a beat-em-up, this game is a Choose Your Own Adventure text based adventure, with some turn based combat thrown in. The gameplay basically consists of the game providing you some options, then you choose one and suffer the consequences. Some choices affect the story, and these are clearly marked, but most only result in you gaining resources and/or getting in a fight. The resources are used to craft weapons, ammo and consumables, which are used in order to not die in the fights. So, in essence, this is a resource management game. It is pretty casual, but also nice.

Blood of Titans

Blood of Titans

So i see most reviews are from people with 2 hours so i will be the first actual player to write a real review, let me start by saying the game is free, you can choose to play for absolutely nothing, now that being said, just like any other game released on steam, you can pay for more, are there expensive single cards in the shop? yes. do you need to buy them? no. should you buy them? no.

This is a strategy game, if you aren’t good at strategy you will lose a lot, the strategy lacks a lot of depth but it is there, and you can really notice the difference once you figure out a play style and learn to counter different things. it is the general nature of a card game to know that one specific card will not beat another, if you cannot learn this you will not find success in this game.

Real player with 836.1 hrs in game

Hmm were to start ?

First at all it not really PTW it has elements like the most games in steam , you can reach even all cards ( right now common , uncomman , rare , epic , legandary ) in only playing the story line , with all i mean even the legendary and you have to pay nothing for … its right that there are cards with 15 $ or 30 $ , but do you have to buy them - no … so before act like a cry baby ( as a read the most negativ reviews with not really a background ) , try to get some knowledge over the game , before speak up again , to pay for a game and think you would be NO.1 will never work without knowledge , … so in all - its a nice game not perfect , its new , the art style is awsome you can collect card pieces (copie from your card) to make your card stronger and the animation changes too , there permanent new events - the are allways free , give it a try ; )

Gameplay 1/10

Story 2/10

Controls 3/10

Graphics 4/10

Difficulty 1/10

Positive Aspects

  • Runs smoothly and stable. No crashes, bugs, or other major errors.

  • Is exactly what it’s advertised as, no more, no less.

Negative Aspects

  • The music will fade whenever there is a sound cue playing. Very annoying and had me mute the entire game.

  • The stories are a bit dull.

  • The difficulty. You can finish each of the 3 stories in about 10 minutes. You just have to click a few times and make some choices and you’re done.

I kind wish there was more chapters and dlc help support game?? hint to developers.

I played it as far I could stay sitting comfortably by computer.

Like: Doctor story was interesting. I have yet play third time around teacher or rich kid roles yet.

Dislike: one chance encounters end up giving negative influences in your life is dice roll effect, there no character customization/ if characters were different sex?

Doctor character story last time I played it was unfinished. Teacher not sure how finished that was.
