Code of the Savage

Code of the Savage

“Sails on the horizon… Why they came, we did not know… Destruction, chains…"

Code of the Savage is a tale of vengeance and survival. After escaping a slave ship, you have found yourself in chains and washed ashore on the island Kingdom of Daneth. You must find your way in a brutal and unforgiving world where nothing is black and white.

Code of the Savage is a no-holds-barred classic western style RPG. Inspired by the greats from the 80-90’s with a modern flair. There is a strong emphasis on player freedom through social and moral interactions… Will you choose to firebomb the brothel, the church… Or both? Will you do it for money, glory or just because?

In Code of the Savage, you and the main character are totally new to Daneth. Explore the land and discover its rich history and lore.

I wanted to create a role playing game that brought me back to my gamer days as a child on the C64 and MS-DOS PC. There is just something lacking in today’s RPGs that I miss. Tired of micro-transactions, and randomly generated worlds; I am creating a world that is handcrafted with purpose. Essentially, I am creating the game that I want to play.

Code of the Savage includes a great emphasis on NPC interaction. Each NPC in Code of The Savage has their own story, their own character portrait, and a daily schedule. They will, go about their daily lives, going to work, eating and sleeping.

Level up your character and adventure forth to discover the treasures, history, and people of Daneth.

  • Open world - A large open, seamless, non-linear, hand-crafted world for you to explore. Including day and night cycles, and weather.

  • Exploration - Discover towns, cities, hidden caves and dungeons. Unravel the rich lore of Daneth.

  • NPCs with depth - Meet a rich cast of NPCs with a dynamic branching conversation system. NPCs remember your name and react differently depending on the situation.

  • Dark themes - Code of The Savage doesn’t hold back on what some may consider offensive content. If you’re easily offended, Code of The Savage is probably not for you… This is not a “slay the dragon” and “save the princess” RPG.

  • Player freedom - There are various ways to progress through the game, with no right or wrong answers. Morality in Code of The Savage is not black and white. You decide what’s right, and you decide what’s wrong.

  • Adventure - Battle giants, undead and other creatures, hunt to gather resources, or go on a murderous rampage, the choice is yours.

  • Combat - Fast-paced dynamic combat system which is real time with pause. Combat encounters happen in real time, without loading to a separate combat screen.

  • Inventory - An intuitive and easy to use inventory system. Any equipment and armour the player is wearing shows on their avatar.

  • Controls - Smooth grid-based movement. Easy and intuitive mouse and keyboard controls.

A game to congratulate. The main character pulls you into the game either by the playability or with the story. The scenarios are diverse and wake up your attention - the music also. You can “play” with the time of the game and stay by the small games and quests inside of it. It’s fun. I love it.

I miss the times when games were made to leave something to the player. I miss games like this.

Serin Fate

Serin Fate

(This review is based on the June ‘20 update)

Right off the top, I want to be clear this game is still, as advertised, very much a work in progress. However, that being written, I’ve enjoyed my experience enough that I’m content having bought the game at full price even though many of the game mechanics are presently under-explained and the game play is a bit out of balance here and there. What’s more, I can tell from past comments in the forum that some problems have already been fixed – I’m looking at you, person still whinging about inventory size when I massively upgraded mine as a rank newbie in three days of in-game time – so the Developer seems to be responsive and engaged.

Intro

Serin Fate is an adventure RPG with a lot of mandatory elements that you usually find in farming games in addition to magic and monster taming. You can farm, mine, capture monsters for you to fight, fish, and many more. Despite the varied features, it still focuses on the adventure element at its core, allowing you to explore the whole region and figure out how to proceed from the obscure hints.

The End of Dyeus

The End of Dyeus

It’s a quaint little game. No handholding, no restrictions save for what you can accomplish with the gear and upgrades you find. Simple, but not entirely straighforward. Graphics/animations are a big seller for me as I’m a sucker for this style. The combat is.. Adequate. Melee consists of blocking and attacking, learning your opponents’ moves, and making sure the shield you have blocks more damage than your adversary dishes out. Simple and generally not rewarding. Same goes for the bow; keep a good stock of arrows and kite. The crossbow allows for a shield, but it’s the same taste as both; kite, block if your foe gets too close, then shoot. Locations are lackluster, and the land is a bore between areas minus the ever-weakening mobs you encounter thanks to your gear. There are shops, but they’re rather redundant save for artifacts that I won’t spoil abilities/tweaks for. The story is sort of clíched, but semi-original. Still, most of it is learned through books ala Dark Souls. Oh, and keys are rebindable. Though, as much as I’m loathe to say this, Dyeus could have benefited greatly from mod support, though for nearly being out a month with hardly any Community Hub activity, I doubt that could have taken the game to greater heights.

Overall it was a pretty nice experience, it was fun having to figure out where to go next and getting brutally murdered because I went somewhere that was way over my head.

Figuring out which weapons work best for each enemy, which ones to engage in melee or ranged was also nice.

The melee was usually fine but there were some particular enemies that were a patience game, where you are both attacking and blocking and it takes quite a while to actually get a hit on them.

If you’re like me and struggled at the end one bit of advice:

Til Nord

Til Nord

Nominated as Game of the Year!

Til Nord is fabulously beautiful and a lot of fun.

The feel of the ride is quite good, though it seems more of my wipe-outs should be killing me when they’re not. When a wipe-out is as funny as it is in this game, I wouldn’t mind seeing a few more of them.

The ‘missions’ you are tasked with are fun, if few. The races are all quite fun and a bit challenging, but not overly so.

The scenery is incredible; just don’t give it close-up scrutiny in most places. Take in the full view, which is jaw-droppingly amazing.

Driving a snowmobile through snowy Norway. An enjoyable experience for free!

Explore!

In Til Nord you are free to explore the snowy Norwegian mountains. There is a mission-chain which can be spotted easily by the huge vertical waypoints, that the game uses to guide the way. The missions explore most of the area.

There are also races, that unlock other races when you finish with any time. All races also have an achievement for beating a certain time. This time is pretty sharp, and gives a true challenge to beat! The only time we couldn’t beat was the ‘junkyard race’, while some took many attempts.

Heaven’s Rising

Heaven’s Rising

“Heaven’s Rising” is an open-world action RPG. Its actions unfold at the time of the decline of the Christian faith when she began to be considered noble persons only as a way of governing the people. You play as one of the angels of the “Aspida” group - a special unit of the Heavenly Host, which is engaged in protecting the universe from the confusion of the Expanses. You and your brothers and sisters were sent to the human world to find out the reasons for the massive appearance of demons and put an end to it. In the course of your investigation, you will encounter a wide variety of people, from a simple artisan to a noble young aristocrat, where any of your actions will have consequences. Explore a world full of dangerous ruins, deep forests, and places are forgotten by the Father.

KEY FEATURES

PLAY AS AN EXPERIENCED DEMON FIGHTER

You completed the Great War of the Expanses, where you fought against demons and titans. During the elimination of the consequences of this war, you showed yourself as an incredibly talented demon hunter, which is why you became one of the first members of the Aspid group. For thousands of years, your task has been to protect the universe from the penetration of beings from other Spaces.

  • Send demons and sinners where they belong. Do not spare your enemies, for this can entail consequences.

  • Help people, because the stories of the old hunter by the fireplace are not always pure fiction.

  • Do human work. The world lives its own life and people are ready to pay for the solution of their problems to anyone who can help them. The money earned, in turn, will help you quickly get hold of better equipment.

EXPLORE THE OPEN WORLD

The world around does not stand still but lives its own life.

  • Often, turning off the road, you can find something curious that can serve as the beginning of a whole story.

  • For thousands of years of life, you have learned a lesson - there is no pure good or evil. Make decisions that you yourself feel are right and accept their consequences.

  • The Universe is a much more subtle matter than a person can imagine. It is lucky that you are not, because angels are able to fully feel any changes in the world around them, which can lead you to new places that are invisible at first sight.

CHOOSE YOUR WAY

Perhaps during your adventure, you will change your outlook on the world and want to change your life. Become a hero of Heaven, solving the riddle of the appearance of demons, go to the side of Hell and help former enemies, or leave everything and live your own life away from this endless war. What to do is up to you.

  • Develop your character according to your preferences - use exclusively the capabilities of Heaven or Hell, or correctly combine both elements.

  • Play the selected type. You yourself choose who to be, and not by discovering new abilities and moving sliders, but by deed. All your actions will affect the state of mind, which will directly affect the possible development of the character and the attitude of brothers and sisters towards him.

  • Get to know the world of people better. Over the centuries of work in the “Aspida” group, you thought that you knew human nature, but the new mission requires you to stay in the world of people much longer, which will allow you to open them from a new side.
