Fortress of Hell

Fortress of Hell

Fortress of Hell is an RPG Maker game, but one intended for a mature audience. Its heroes are all grown up, frequently vulgar/cynical, and there will be plenty of sarcastic remarks. Also the theme of the games is quite depraved. While I’m not well versed in the state of RPG Maker games in the 2010’s, the combat system in this game seems fairly good, rewarding the use of buffs and debuffs, and requiring some management of TP/MP. You won’t be able to simply spam skills and spells even in normal mode. Thankfully most of the enemies can be dealt with mere weapon attacks, once your party has leveled up a bit. The progression of the heroes contain numerous points, where you have to choose one talent out of 3 or 2. The description of the outcomes are sometimes too vague, so you might end up with an underwhelming upgrade. Not that it matter that much, on normal difficulty the game can be easily completed even with subpar choices.

Aldorlea Games surprised me here with a much darker, even mature, themed game as we are used to from them. And it’s a pleasant surprise. It’s certainly one of their best games.

The story may be cheesy as hell but… cheesy in a good way. And yes the game is dark but it’s also spiced with a lot of humour. The dialogues are, off course, cheesy but that fits very well here.

Obviously a lot of thought and effort went in to this production. The castle just looks wonderful, a lot of attention was spend to the decoration and the looks of each screen and it shows: it’s one of the better looking RPG Maker games out there. Aldorea once again proves that you can make a pretty looking game just with stock material.

Turbo Kid

Turbo Kid

Turbo Kid is a BMX-powered pixel-art Metroidvania gore-fest based on the film of the same name.

This is the future, the world as we know it is gone. You are The Kid, a lone warrior on a journey to cross the Wasteland in search of hope. What you will find on your way however is a land riddled with scoundrels and creeps which you’ll have to go through - sometimes quite literally - in order to survive.

Turbo Kid’s choc-full-of-mayhem Turbo Glove™ will help make your quest smoother and much, much bloodier! Turbo Blast, Electric Shocks, your trusty machete, and then some; use the array of weapons at your disposal to slash, rip apart, or explode enemies into hysterical and over-the-top splashes of gore!

Run, crawl, jump, hang, and, for the very first time in a Metroidvania (don’t research this), bike your way through the levels! Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the height of human-powered transport technology: the BMX Bike!

Move around the map faster, access new areas, and practice your bike tricks in preparation for the 1998 Wasteland Olympics Freestyle BMX Event. No need to find an unrusted fence to lock your bike in this game! It’ll be there at the touch of a button whenever you need it.

Our story begins immediately after the events of the movie, as the Kid, you must cross the Wasteland after losing a friend in a tragic bloody battle. On your way, you will meet an array of colorful characters, some friends, some foes, and some in-between, who will offer advice, quests, fights, and jokes (lots of jokes).

We’re really proud of the story we’ve created for the game and we think you’ll enjoy it too. That being said, if you’re only in it for the gameplay and the story isn’t for you, you won’t even need to skip the cutscenes, you can basically just ignore and walk past them.

Like the Metroidvanias of old, TURBO KID allows you to explore the different zones and defeat bosses in the order you see fit, favoring exploration and discovery over a linear narrative. Over the course of the game, you will also be asked to make personal and moral choices that will affect the process of the game allowing for multiple playthroughs with different paths and outcomes.

Death Coming/死神来了

Death Coming/死神来了

Wow. Apparently the game was released by accident and just happened to come across my queue this morning. So I took a chance and tried it out, not realizing just how “new” it was.

The concept is great. You are assisting the grim reaper and you have to kill as many people as possible. Each level has three specific targets that are harder to kill and must be lured or tricked in order to get them to come out. The challenge comes from two areas. First, some traps are one time or limited use. So if you don’t have people lined up just right, or have every single person in the same area that this trap can hit, then you can’t get a perfect score (by killing everyone). The second challenge comes in the form of angels. The more you kill, the more angels show up. If they see you messing with anything, you loose a heart. Loose all three, and you restart the level.

A fun little puzzle game, Death Coming tasks you as a helper of the Grim Reaper himself and helping him harvest as many souls as you can in your quest to get your reward of another chance in life. To do this you must explore a varietyof different situations, from the casual neighborhood, a factory, to even a mysterious tropical island, exploring various ways to kill not only the random NPCs but also your special marked targets (that offer a special ending if you get them all).

All in colorful pixel graphics with a lot of funny little situations and animations, simple but serviceable quriky music that fits the premise, making for a very pleasant game.

Explore dreary, dream-like worlds that descend into madness in this Horror-RPG. This game combines survival-horror, RPG, and roguelike elements to create a truly unique experience. The objective in this game is to accumulate insanity by hunting monsters. As your insanity increases, the world will change and descend further into madness. Once enough insanity is obtained, you can challenge the final boss.

This game has a unique combat system in which you simultaneously control a headless knight and a haunted sword. You will need to avoid enemies with the knight while striking them with the sword. Use spells to gain the upper hand in combat by targeting enemy weaknesses. You can also level up your stats by finding “chlorprellae” in the world.

In Unknown Mode, you can play on randomly generated worlds. You can customize these worlds by choosing how many of each specific enemy will spawn in your world. Masked Forces

Masked Forces

You have not lived until you’ve played Masked Forces.

The moment you see the title screen flash, you will be hooked for life. The UI (User Interface) is unmatched compared to anything else on the market, it’s intuitive and snappy, just works flawlessly. Although, the real magic happens the moment you step foot onto the battlefield. My first match played in the map Factory, bullets are whistling past my ears in every direction, my fellow Shooters are helplessly ducking from enemy fire, I hear explosions coming from the west, I stand guard, my buddy is wounded badly, I try in the best of my ability to provide cover, but alas it was too late. I see a grenade cloud over, like the first rain cloud before a storm - A white flash, deafening noise, silence. Their limbs, dismembered in only fractions of a second. I will never forget your name, Shooter8438.

This game is a port of an online Unity game. That being said, it can certainly entertain for anywhere from ten minutes to many hours depending on your standards. The playerbase is nearly nonexistent and very unskilled. The campaign is a joke, simply 3 mission types (survive for X seconds, kill X enemies, win a team/solo match with bots) on repeat endlessly with increasing numbers. Grenades in this game are essentially RPGs and kill in one (AOE) hit. This brings down the multiplayer to a barely playable level. That being said, this game has potential as a timewaster when you simply want to fool around with an FPS that can run on any machine and is very noncompetitive. In the end, I simply cannot recommend this game, but if you need a game to kill time… hey, the price isn’t too high at least.

Hell Punk Horror

Hell Punk Horror

Every time you play you get a new chaotic experience. Learn to utilize the game’s systems to travel through different dimensions and ultimately escape.

Easy to learn but hard to master. Inspired by the best of the genre, the combat in Hell Punk Horror is fluid, brutal and satisfying. Unlock new skills while playing and utilize the physics-based surroundings to defeat your foes in creative ways.

The only constant in the game. Everything you put here is saved - everything else is gone when you lose. Use this to your advantage and make this space your home.

Get a controller and play with a friend the old-school way! The survival mode can be played together, and in a later update all modes will be available in split-screen.

Using Unreal Engine 4, it is built with modern tech but still has a retro styled aesthetic. Combined with wild colors and insane monsters it’s a truly unique experience.

It’s a good game with good customizability of armors and weapons, but it’s just a flash game. I’d just play a flash game on some website and spend money on something else.

The Short of it: A unique mix of exploration and arcade shooter, Plexus is a fun time with reasonable graphics / challenging gameplay. I liked having a world map, thus being able to select my own path. Good controls.

Really reasonable price too I should mention. I think players will get their money’s worth out of Plexus, as there are many levels and lots of varied gameplay challenges.
