Misery Street

Misery Street

I’m still not very far into the game, but it’s pretty good.

It runs insanely poorly for how graphically simple it is. I have no idea how a game this simple can run that bad unless it’s doing crypto mining or something.

The PLC-as-currency thing is a little bit “Hey guys, can you tell that I played Lisa?” The EP Snails (is that what they are?) are at least slightly altered while clearly being an Earthbound reference.

The “maybe I should get a job” dialogue with the Hobo Grey kind of irks me. Even if it wasn’t a cliche joke that makes no sense in the setting (he’s in a tiny farming village plagued with both a serial killer and a continuous undead infestation in the fields), it would still be a crass misrepresentation of homelessness fit for the scribblings of an elementary schooler.

Creepy Mahjong

Creepy Mahjong

Creepy Mahjong is a dark theme Mahjong solitaire with a twist.

Levels follow a story, but each time you play, the story might be different.

Completing some levels or failing to, will bring you to a different path of levels to explore.

In each level, you have to fight a monster, and with the pass of time, your life reduces.

Each time a pair of tiles is removed, you get back some health.

If you get stuck and your health isn’t too low, you can escape and get a new monster to fight with, but be careful because your health is carried from one level to another either if you win or escape.

To bring you more into the creepy mood, this game purposely has no hints or shuffle, and some levels might not be solvable due to the random tile placement.

It’s up to you to figure out and decide when it’s time to escape and try to find another match or keep fighting.

Create and Share your own Levels

Purchasing Creepy Mahjong, you will also get access to a Level Editor where you can create your own design.

After designing your level you will obtain a code that you can use to share it with your friends and community.

Share your creations with your friends for an endless challenge!

Dear Future

Dear Future

I forced myself to finish it so you don’t have to.

TL:DR 8 hours of boring walking to uncover a lame story, and a non working multiplayer.

A walking simulator made for some college student art project, what could go wrong???

But the innovative sounding multiplayer component, plus the fact that it’s free, sucked me in. And the game, although minimalist, initially manages to feel well-designed and polished…

But notice how none of the reviewers seem to have played this for more than 30 minutes?

Photos of future ruins

Dear Future (Dear Future Production Committee, 2021) is an asynchronous massively-multiplayer photography game about exploring an abandoned city. I have been trying to write about it for several weeks and have found myself incapable of doing with any organization or distance. What follow, instead, are orchestrated recollections and half-formed conclusions of my time with the game. A half-step towards the understanding I’m searching for. A version with photos is available here .

Dawn of a Soul

Dawn of a Soul

This game really works your brain in a good way. One of the most relaxing games I’ve played as well.

This mathematical puzzle game has a very creative concept you would maybe expect on mobile platforms, but uses the PC’s wider display for deeper in-depths mechanics and levels. It has an original approach on the casual-friendly puzzle genre by finding the optimal chain(s) in combining the numbered nodes and switching the colours on the right spot to increase the multiplier.

You don’t need high mathematical skills to solve the puzzles, simply counting to a reasonable degree is all you’ll need (the game keeps track of your equation in the bottom) and the routes are often quite intuitive. The final score you need to reach is given in any level, while often there is a second, lower score to move on to the next level and coming back later. New mechanics are added along the way, but always with very easy to learn tutorials. But make no mistake, the higher levels are very challenging and will need your focus to master them.
