Street karate 3

A very interesting Walking game with an equally interesting soundtrack. The game is similar to games from consoles from the 2000s. But this is only a plus-the game causes a lot of nostalgia. Despite the genre of “indie”, this game can kill several of your hours.

We will play as a karate player who will have to fight a large number of opponents exceeding his strength, but we will have at our disposal additional weapons, such as rebar or knives. In addition to the usual throws, jumps, grabs, our hero has a combo punch with which you can scatter opponents in a circle.

The game will please the drawn graphics and cool soundtrack.

Boom Dojo is an improvement of Groove Balls, the previous VR music rhythm game from this same developer. Unfortunately, as it stands now, this game is still inferior to the average VR music rhythm game. There are much better VR music rhythm games out there.

There’s a disappointing lack of content. The game only has 1 map and 4 in-game songs. The core gameplay is not as polished as in other VR music rhythm games. While you are punching the matching colored object to your red or blue tattooed hand (or optionally also dodging bars) with music playing, the procedurally generated beatmap doesn’t really go with the beat of said music. At least you can play your own songs by moving your mp3s to your music folder.

It doesn’t look like much and it won’t teach you technique, but I actually found this to be one of the best VR boxing punch pad trainers out there. The patterns have just enough variation to keep me on my toes and I like how the difficulty dynamically scales up as you do well. Many of the other boxing trainers I’ve played force you to break important habits or are too focused on being a rhythm game. I wish this was less bare bones, maybe have an option that adds a little circling footwork and blocking, but it’s a good start.

Sky Sanctuary is a beautiful archipelago where you can play all kinds of different Samurai mini games. As the game is in early access, there are only a few things to do at the moment.

  • Japanese wood cutting (Tameshigiri)

  • Bow and arrow skill training (Kyudo with 3 modes)

  • and there is a sandbox zone where you can use/try out several Samuari weapons like Shurikens and smoke screen balls.

When I first saw this game I couldn’t help thinking of similar sword slicing VR titles like Fruit Ninja or Katana X, and wondering what would make this game stand out from its competitors. But actually, Sky Sanctuary is probably the more padded out game of the three by presenting itself as a tongue-in-cheek samurai and ninja training game. So whereas chopping things with a katana is an element of all three games, that’s just one component of Sky Sanctuary’s full experience, also offering the ability to walk around the small floating island, shoot a bow, and mess with ninja type goodies like smoke bombs, shurikens and fire staffs. Both the sword and bow experiences are essentially ranked mini-games, with the option to also just mess around the island with them.

This game made me feel like I was the Karate Kid, except, instead of a real old man making me wax his car I was given a cardboard cut-out of an old man.

Not that that’s a bad thing, naturally. I don’t particularly want an old man watching me work up a sweat, but I would have liked him to perhaps throw some guidance my way on how I can improve rather than waiting for the end of the match.

This game feels more like I’m training in martial arts than playing a game, there’s no mid-game scoring, no timed events or any tips during the match, you just need to get on with it, give it your best and see your ways to improve at the end. It did feel quite similar to when I was in school doing marital arts training.

About as close as you can get to a training simulator for martial arts. You aren’t hitting things to a soundtrack. It is purely a training dummy with spinning targets you either Block (forearm), punch, or dodge. The harder and firmer your form, the more points you build up.

If you’re looking for a game that will give you a little cardio workout, pick this up. Level 5 and beyond will have you sparring with 3 simultaneously spinning targets to work with.

This game had me sweating from my eyelashes. When you find your groove, and stop ‘trying’, your natural reactions become instant. Your right hand will be blocking, but your already looking to your left to intercept the next target.

BoomXR

BoomXR

‘BoomXR’ is yet another boxing style rhythm game of the likes we have already seen lots of times before. Only this time you will be fighting invisible ninjas with punches of the corresponding colour to your fists in time with the music. The good news is the 5 tracks on offer are not terrible and the beat mapping seems to be mostly OK. You can even use your own music, but of course, the beat mapping will be terrible.

I get that £3.99 is a small price, but I just don’t think this game offers even enough content at that small price. Using the Oculus Rift I also found the punching hands off-angle and the gameplay far too frantic to be called fun. There are a few different game modes, but they are mostly all the same. It is not something I am willing to recommend just yet, but with a few improvements (especially to the learning difficulty) I could see that opinion changing.

BoomXR is a Free to Play VR Beat Boxing game. It worked on my HTC Vive system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You have five default tracks included and you can add your own mp3s by making a folder in your music folder, then place them there. There is a tutorial video that you can watch of what you should strive for in the boxing training. You have options to make the game harder. Nice lobby, and you can change the color scheme. The ninjas was a nice touch, and you can turn off the ninjas. This game was paid product at one time, now it is free to play.

Disc Ninja

Disc Ninja

Works on Valve index. Trigger to grab. it’s good. not insanely realistic. More arcade feeling, but it’s good. no settings to be seen so far. If you don’t like disk golf do not pick this up. If you do like disk golf in your spare time. This is amazing! Fun.

I find it most fun to explore the places and figure out where you are and how you will get through a course. There is obstacles that move so it’s way more engaging than a local park.

the only cons about disk throwing is you can NOT tomahawk that disk like in real life where it goes vertical then levels out flat waaay far away. But jacking around aside it feels just like launching a disk in real life. Throwing it sane like feels just like the real deal. No complaints about lag or that when you let go it feels wrong, it’s perfect. Pick it up if you into disk golf. Go do disk golfing irl before getting this, it feels the same.

Game is unfinished, there’s not much content, it’s broken with invisible hitboxes, Index controls are not good, and no updates over the past year so the Devs could update the Oculus store version instead. It’s grossly overpriced for what’s on offer currently and I’m not holding my breath for improvements promised in the months ahead.

Mad Dojo

Mad Dojo

I hate this game. It is so annoying. But it also must be beaten. It is (at least for me), a very difficult game. A side-scrolling platform puzzle solving game, where you play a Ninja trying to survive ever more challenging and difficult obstacle courses - courses that are filled with spikes, acid and sharp bamboo spears, (and later falling stallegmites, shuriken cannons, proximity mines and bottomless pits), armed only with physics defying jumps and overtly large shuriken (which in turn can hurt you when they stick into walls becoming a new hazard).

Real player with 13.1 hrs in game

I recommended this game when I was 1.5h into it, and that did not change after beating all the levels, working to improve my times in the first stage, and trying the procedural generator.

It’s a good precision platformer.

–-

Mad Dojo has short fast difficult levels and tight controls. It’s not as tight as Super Meat Boy or iZBOT (which are masterpieces in this regard), but still feels responsive and rewarding, especially after you learned how the obstacles and death traps work and start speedrunning.

Hack or Die!

Hack or Die!

Amazing game! Totally unique and innovative core gameplay mechanics, a huge accomplishment for a modern platformer. It fundamentally changes the nature of platforming.

I did in fact purchase the game with my own money, and It was money well spent. However, for the sake of honesty, I must note that I consulted for the developer, and I know the developer closely. At the same time, I have never been paid by the developer nor offered any form of compensation, so I’m no shill.

I’m a huge fan of this game, and I’d still be a huge fan even if I had no relation to this game. It is an absolutely incredible game, particular for fans of high skill platforming games (one of my favorite genres). Everything in this review represents my genuine beliefs.

JumpBall 2

JumpBall 2

JumpBall took the indie dev scene by storm. With exciting, innovative mechanics and a colorful design, it was an impressive and enduring experience for gamers of all ages and backgrounds.

With the announcement of JumpBall 2, many fans were skeptical as to how the original could possibly be improved upon. As a die-hard JumpBall fan myself, I admit I was unsure alongside them.

Then I played the game.

JumpBall 2 has done it again, folks. The same characters we’ve come to know and love take on a brand new challenge, and with new ways to play. The addition of the midair jump added an entirely new dimension to the gameplay, making levels that are as challenging as they are fun to play. The level design is polished and robust, mirroring the likes of its predecessors while acheiving a new flair only this studio could imagine. The black ninja adversaries gave more depth to the characters and lore of the world, making me want to learn more about the ninja history.
