My Koi

My Koi

Very well done virtual fish pond. Excellently realistic graphics and fish movement/behaviour. Good ambient sounds.

Also, the developer is amazingly active and responsive to suggestions. I’ve already seen 2 updates within hours of the suggestion being posted on the forum!

I’ve tried writing a more comprehensive review with a couple of suggestions, but every time click ‘Post review’ the button disappears and nothing else happens. I hope this minimal review is ‘accepted’, and will take up the other points I wanted to make up the forum.

I’ve always wanted a koi pond, but I don’t have the space to put one since I have a small yard. My Koi piqued my interest for that very reason. This is a koi pond simulator, and a great one at that. If you’re expecting a riveting narrative, Michael Bay-esque explosions, and epic fights between good and evil, then My Koi is not the game you’re looking for. If you’re into a relaxing experience, then this is a great option.

Here’s the gist: you’re given three ponds and a limited number of koi to create and put into each pond. You’ll have the ability to feed your koi and watch them grow over time. This doesn’t mean there’s no challenge. One of your koi must hit a certain weight and length milestone in order to unlock more customization options for your koi. You’re also able to put more koi into each pond as you hit these milestones. It incentivizes you to care for your koi daily. You can at least feed the koi once a day, and they’ll be happy.

Relaxing fun, especially when you get good at swimming fast.

Controller support didn’t work for me (Steam/Linux) but configured as keyboard instead.

For the price well worth a punt.

Guppy is a poetic game, which lets you control a fish by moving its tail left and right.

No other control is used; and every movement of the tail is propelling the fish in the direction of the movement. Used alternatively, left and right movements allow the fish to progress forward, or any way you so desire; by gauging how much of each movement to produce.

Both the left and right sticks can be used; but the game really shines when shoulder controls are used, epecially the analog ones. I am unsure as if the game is using them in an analog fashion (I think not), but using them feels most natural to me.

Shelter 3

Shelter 3

Shelter 3 disappointed my beginning expectations at first, but it’s growing on me.

Let me start out by saying I am a major Might and Delight fan, but more specifically their Shelter series. Although I have mixed opinions with Shelter 1 as it’s a linear and less of an exploration game, the connection between all of the badger offspring and the mother I was playing as was beautifully done. That same aspect goes to Shelter 2, which is significantly better than it’s original, Shelter 1. It allowed a more open and free world than it’s previous game, and the connection between the children as they grew up was more emotional, especially when they leave. I also enjoyed how they allowed various skin patterns and the ability to play as a surviving offspring to continue the legacy of the family.

Update 1: So I’ve played this game for another hour, and the experience is still painful. Glitches continue to be rampant and punishing: at one point, I was unable to nurse my starving calf and restarted the game; somehow this made it so that my herd was starving and I had to go out of my way to find trees; thus taking much more time that could have been spent moving forward. I just stopped playing now because I thought I was going the right way (again), but now I’m lost and the idea of walking around in circles pointlessly is absolutely crushing. In a game where your modus operandi is to move from one place to another, the movement should be fun. It’s not fun. That’s… pretty pathetic.

It’s a great “game” to use as white noise when I take naps. Also good background and visuals for when I’m knitting. Oh, and makes a great screensaver too. If you’re looking to actually do something then look elsewhere because the only thing you control in this “game” is your view from your boat. Use the mouse to look around 360 degrees, up and down all around. But your boat never arrives anywhere. See some mountains in the distance and think you’ll get there, sorry to tell you you’ll never arrive! It’s like this boat is stuck and the scenery is on a track that passes you by to make you think that you’re moving. On the plus side there are different places your boat can be. And the trees and stuff are wildly colored, even the sky is strange. Sometimes you’re floating towards a mountain with land on one side, then sometimes you’re in the arctic floating through icebergs (hope you brought something warm to wear!), or you’re surrounded by tall cattails and other water plants and they are very tall.

Okay my dude, so we(three) have been “playing” for about an hour now. We LOVE this game! However, we are a few “game developers” and have some design “suggestion(s)”.

Firstly, you know those worm like particle effects that are uniquely shaped and colored to each realm(island realm had rounded and brown, iceberg realm had pointy and white, and grass realm had wispy and white)? Okay, good! So, on the iceberg realm we feel that the wispy nature of the grass realms “worm(s)” would fit much more nicely.

Hidden Animals: English - Spanish

Hidden Animals: English - Spanish

A nice game as such, but containing unforgivable mistakes in the vocabulary that it’s supposed to teach you, and badly optimised in my opinion.

I bought this game for my 9 year old daughter, who likes hidden object games and is quite good in them - but there aren’t that many suitable for children, so I was happy to find this one. Since we are neither English nor Spanish native speakers, I was prepared to translate for her and the game wasn’t meant as an educational tool, but she learns English in school, so I hoped she would also pick up a few animal names while playing. But very early she got frustrated by the fact, that it seemed simply impossible to get three golden stars and thus uncover more pieces of the bonus puzzle, no matter how quick she was or how hard she tried (I tried to help with that and didn’t succeed either) - so she stopped playing because it was driving her to tears, and I bought her Hidden Animals Photo Hunt instead to make up for this disappointment.

Hey, want to have a good game? Check this indie out! :)

In Hidden Animals you will learn animal names too, while finding them - I don’t even know why they don’t teach languages like this; awesome idea. Speaking of awesomeness I liked the music so much, that I just had to stop at the main menu, just to listen. Nice pictures, user-friendly design. I also liked that it was a good fun my daughter as well: she likes animals and stages can be completed in minutes.

Blueplanet VR

Blueplanet VR

first, thank you for this beautiful game, a lot of work and times are put into it.

I enjoyed it very much, most locations are interesting to see, but some are not so interesting, like the empty warehouse , there are nothing interesting thing to see, just an empty huge warehouse or building.

please add more interesting and happy places to see and to visit. more tree, flower, bird, nature, river, sky, night star … etc.

My suggestion is to have a map of the earth to show where the location or place are on the map. this is more informative and educational way to learn about the place. Add some background music will be great as well.

Absolutely phenomenal. The photogrammetry in combination with the ambient music, sounds, and particle effects, do an incredible job of conveying the majesty of each scene. I honestly had goosebumps during my first experience, it was incredibly satisfying and shows just how powerful VR can be when done right.

I recommend this to anyone, the experience is much like Google Earth VR and visisting an exhibition. Some ‘exhibits’ are small and don’t give you much room to move around, whilst others let you explore them in greater depth as you navigate their twisting corridors, journeying deeper inside.

Fire Place

Fire Place

It’s the perfect time for a virtual Fire Place

with days getting shorter and hazy seasons approaching.

The game – or rather simulation – offers a variety of scenes/locations to choose from, generally season unrelated.

You might choose the bonfire at the beach or the mediterranean looking fire-place for some chill summer evenings.

The game offers to many options to manipulate the behaviour of the fire itself and also the rendering/appearance to list them all. You can change brightness and glow but also get detailed control like how fast the heat spreads or the ambient heat which affects the fire.

Real player with 3.7 hrs in game

Less game, more experience. Fire Place works as both a short-session way to chill and a long one if you need a sleeping aid. Once you’ve got a decent fire going it’ll keep itself active for about 20 minutes depending on available fuel, or you can tinker with it every 5 or so minutes to maintain it indefinitely. There are multiple scenes to work with, ranging from a generic campfire to an old Victorian-era fireplace in a vaguely spooky room.

Note here each fireplace layout features different audio, some of which is great and some…well, you’ll wonder why its addition to the game was celebrated lol. There are thankfully sliders for the music as well as everything else including how the fire reacts to materials - modifying some of these though can cause your GPU to break a bit of a sweat so low-spec users should be wary.

Quiet as a Stone

Quiet as a Stone

The game is well done and though super simple and even limited in the actual gameplay (can’t save maps you’ve developed, no!real goal other than just clearing the landscape searching for magical stones). But despite the games limitations, it’s easy gameplay and simplicity are actually addicting. Tried it for the first time today and when I’d stopped it was 3 hours later! LOL Only three downfalls I see are that you can’t save maps, can’t create a map from scratch, and there needs to be a gamma control as the game is predominently dark and its difficult to see the landscape clearly. Hopefully the developer will add some updates. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing experience that only costs pennies.

Real player with 43.0 hrs in game

Love the concept and the calm vibes, its very beautiful and relaxing! I do wish there were more variation in landscapes though, I imagine it gets same’y quite fast. Different climates and plants would have been fun! It is also much too dark, with no way to adjust the lighting up (as far as I can tell). Sometimes I cant see whats going on at all, its literally just pitch black, lol.

There are also some minor issues, like street lamps cant be picked up again once you place them.

Story Review

Plummeting down at sonic speeds towards the ground and saving myself from becoming a splattering heap of blood, my first moments of this new and strange world were quite horrifying. It was strange that despite my near death experience I couldn’t help but feel that these lands felt promising in being a tranquil place to live the rest of my life. Unsure of what was to become of me…

The world looked incredibly strange, full of triangle shaped forms, from the trees, caves and sculptures down to the animals themselves. Unsure of my surroundings I had to familiarize myself with what would be useful. Finding red triangles I noticed made me healthier while the blue triangles when gathered enough saved my life. Funny how these items were of similar shape and resemblance to my environment. Forming together a sort of harmony.
