If you’ve read my review on Act 1 of this game you know I not only recommend it but love it. It is a truly unique work of art from my perspective. I adore the artwork in this game, the story and the music.

I am only an hour in but like to take my time going slowly through this game.

The character of Ilar is mysterious and compelling as always throughout the game. I enjoy that the game allows the player to choose their own gender and Ilar is also not defined as a gender so it is up to you to determine that for yourself. The game also uses gender-neutral pronouns implemented in a very natural way. Using they/them or xe/xer. I usually don’t mind if a game does determine genders for the player but this was a refreshing take that really, in my opinion, makes the characters more mysterious and wonderful.

I played through every single one of the endings of this game. And although I would love to say ti was worth it, I cannot.

The humor is funny at first, but then you realize that the writer of this game has an obsession with vore/cannibalism/vomit and it’s pretty easy to predict the direction of every single ending. Also, there were many times when perfectly decent endings were drawn out to the point where it’s completely ridiculous and unfunny, like it’s necessary for Kyle to completely change society every time he dies.

The trailer for this game gave me major Stanley Parable vibes so I was excited to play it. Unfortunately the trailer is pretty misleading. The narrator reads out your choices and the results in a normal voice. There’s no emotion (confusion, anger, exasperation, etc), and there’s no additional comments. The only similarities with Stanley Parable are that playthroughs can unlock additional options for the next playthrough. As far as humour goes, it had the odd funny moment but most of it was just stupid, and not in a funny way IMO. Humour is very subjective though so I can understand some people liking it.

this is a very tedious game.

i’m not quite sure if it was done intentionally, but i think that was rather well-executed. the creators did not bother with putting fillers in an attempt to lift the mood, but instead dove right in and sustained the immersive experience of dealing with someone who has bulimia.

the choices presented for your character’s response and alice’s responses to them can be extremely aggravating, frustrating, and tiring to listen to. their thoughts and feelings were never sugarcoated– and credits for the game for giving the character a diverse set of options rather than being just supportive or unsupportive. they can be supportive and effective. supportive but ineffective. in that regard, i consider the game well-thought out and realistic in the way we, as people, may consider the same responses to actual people like alice, and have an equally diverse range of reactions towards discovering alice’s woes.

This short and highly replayable game depicts bulimic and anorexic symptoms accurately, and does well to convey the experience of slowly uncovering and helping someone through an eating disorder and body dysmorphia.

The art is competent and quite stylish, fitting the mood of the narrative. A few details are odd and hint at the game’s indie origins, but overall everything is consistent and charming in appearance.

Much of the dialogue deals with bulimic symptoms in real-world detail, which was completely accurate to my own experiences, and may trigger players who recognize these symptoms. Paranoia and gaslighting are also depicted on the part of the narrator with the same narrative realism. The game has a “trigger warning,” and given its content and audience, this is warranted.

Really immersive game. I love it so far. I played it for several hours this evening and mostly just read the diary, which was a great story. Most games that have a diary, the diary is pretty bland but this was intriguing and I spent the whole time enjoying the story while also trying to anticipate what might be a clue or not.

The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature

As someone who thoroughly enjoys story-heavy games, I knew that I was in for a treat when I got the opportunity to play The Wanderer: Frankenstein’s Creature (by developer La Belle Games and publisher ARTE France), from the name alone. True to its title, the game heavily incorporates its source material, Mary Shelley’s notorious novel Frankenstein. However, the game has more to offer than simply story. It not only leaves open opportunity for a few diversions from the original and infamous tale, but also gives the player an artistically engaging and awing experience, that gives new dimensions to an otherwise complete character and story.

I could continue on about how the music is incredible (if Gris met Octopath Traveler) or how the visuals are some of the best you’ll see this year, but honestly, words feel cheap when it comes to recounting what I experienced. This is really one of those games that can change you because it makes you feel something that you thought you’d lost in your youth and would never experience again. Yet that reaction I had after the first stone was cast awakened in me something absolutely visceral — the pain and suffering of rejection by others due to the abandonment of those who were supposed to care for you. My creator, neglectful, should have gently eased me into my understanding of the world and shielded me in my youth; instead, I painfully learned that others feared me, and I, in turn, feared them.

“Project Vostok” is a non-linear horror visual novel about a group of airplane crash survivors finding a mysterious Soviet-era bunker in Russian mountains.

A plane flying from Moscow to Barnaul crashes in the Altai Mountains because of a crew error. Almost two dozen strangers are left there to survive. An indefinite list of their problems includes injuries, lack of food, risk of being frozen to death, and contradictions inside the group.

Things take a massive shift when the survivors find an abandoned Soviet bunker built in a cave. Warm rooms and an abundance of supplies lead them to move to this mysterious location. However, it soon turns out that all the problems they have encountered earlier were nothing compared with what is awaiting them now.

With the borders closed due the current pandemic, you can at least travel in your mind while playing this game.

Take a trip with your brother-in-law onboard the Russian Trans-Siberian Railway, the longest railway line in the world. You are starting from Moskow and (maybe) reach Vladivostok a few days later. The game plays like a visual novel, with a map of Russia showing your progress and photographs illustrating the journey. Keep your stress level low and your fatigue under control while managing your travel budget. Meet people while travelling, and get along with your brother-in-law. There are many decisions to make, which can lead to quite different journeys by train (or other means).

My Experience

After my first in-game day of choosing whose memory to wipe, I was annoyed. I didn’t feel like the flow of the game made intuitive sense. Initially, you’re choosing which three of the citizens to move forward to the next stage of the process. Then, at the next citizen line-up (after questioning each citizen you’ve sent forward), you’re choosing which two of the citizens to dismiss. I feel like it would make more sense here if you chose a citizen to move forward - in the same fashion you did at the first line-up.
