SHUT IN
Really captures the feeling of depression without being too… for lack of a better word, depressing? The game is still funny and doesn’t take itself too seriously. Somehow it’s very entertaining to be told how you’re an idiot and you’ve died horribly.
But then there’s also a really creepy atmosphere, very nice sound design, a solid sense of dread, and some very satisfying puzzles.
Really enjoyable, and I feel very smug for finding the secret ending!
Still not got that rocket launcher though…

I had so much fun with this game. Which is a weird thing to say considering it spent a lot of time all-too-accurately evoking the scathing self-deprecation and casual self-sabotage that comes with depression. Did it make me think about the times real-life-me had not wanted to get out of bed, and said mean things to the reflection in the mirror? Yes. Did it let me wave a spatula off a staircase and caress a questionable pile of black goo? Also yes.
Sometimes — especially in 2020 — there’s not much to do about the pitfalls of depression except to laugh and keep going. This game knows that, and in a rather tongue-in-cheek way, nudges us to remember. It’s a fun, satisfying little puzzle that rewards trial and error, persistence, and (if you’re going for the secret ending) the occasional madcap experiment. But most importantly, it tells us: Don’t worry. Try again tomorrow.

Kyle is Famous: Complete Edition
I played through every single one of the endings of this game. And although I would love to say ti was worth it, I cannot.
The humor is funny at first, but then you realize that the writer of this game has an obsession with vore/cannibalism/vomit and it’s pretty easy to predict the direction of every single ending. Also, there were many times when perfectly decent endings were drawn out to the point where it’s completely ridiculous and unfunny, like it’s necessary for Kyle to completely change society every time he dies.

The trailer for this game gave me major Stanley Parable vibes so I was excited to play it. Unfortunately the trailer is pretty misleading. The narrator reads out your choices and the results in a normal voice. There’s no emotion (confusion, anger, exasperation, etc), and there’s no additional comments. The only similarities with Stanley Parable are that playthroughs can unlock additional options for the next playthrough. As far as humour goes, it had the odd funny moment but most of it was just stupid, and not in a funny way IMO. Humour is very subjective though so I can understand some people liking it.

Hair of the Dog
This game is right up my alley! From the very beginning it oozes charm and hilarity. The pace is swift and the characters intriguing. I’ve smiled constantly and laughed out loud many times. It delivers straight away and is delightfully observed too - for anyone into history, literature, cinema. I think I’ll have to watch Tall Story Games closely and see what they do next!

I played this game after enjoying the demo for Lucy Dreaming - so much so that I joined the kick starter for it! This is a lovely game, beautifully made and with a great, dark sense of humour. The fact that this was made in just 2 weeks makes it even more impressive! A few of the puzzles really had me scratching my head (pun intended!) but it was always just difficult enough to be engaging, rather than infuriating.
If you liked this, then I highly recommend Lucy Dreaming.

THE CORRIDOR
Incredibly simple concept for a game that manages to not only create different puzzles to solve but also leading you on a fun and quirky adventure to push every last button out of spite for the narrator. If you’ve ever played The Stanley Parable, this is a game that’ll bring back fond memories and create new ones that you’ll love to go back to! From going rogue and disobeying the narrator, to meeting a cardboard man with a cardboard plan, there’s bound to be something that brings a smile to your face and gets you laughing and having a good time! Highly recommended, honestly one of the funnest games I’ve played in awhile and it really deserves a chance!

Read the whole demo and i gotta say im not surprised at all what I read. Its another piece to put down lonely men in their 20s for not having success with women. The game has the same narrative that most media has on incels or adult virgin men. They are all either mass shooters waiting to happen or just smelly neets in their mother’s basement, while the game attempts to sound smart with its quotes from Otto. Notice how no where in the game a woman seems irrational. Of course that can change when they release the whole game but i highly doubt they will show the ugly side of women in todays society cuz truly lonely men are the worst of our race right? Normies will never understand the lonely male which is why they will just throw all of them in the extreme category of the incel group. Congrats on the cringey ass demo cant wait for the whole game so i can shit on it and laugh more

Is a novel, no a game-novel, rather full novel with no relevant decisions. The following comment is therefore a review of the plot (No Spoilers).
This stuff is not for everyone, hardcore incel issues, 90% of the characters are assholes (except for Jhon, love that bastard), thick text, references to a certain goverment in Germany in the 1930´s, and so on. However, I would argue the plot is pretty well done, the conflict of the main character is real, the characters are all flesh-made weak-but-true people and one can even extract an idea or two from this philosophy-elevated 4chan rant. The backgrounds and the music are perfectly aligned with the plot and so on.

Cataplexy is a short visual novel that combines incompatible genres of comedy and horror. It all depends on the chosen interpretation of events and the mood of the reader. To believe in the mystical nature of what is happening or to make out logical explanations. To be horrified by the state of hopelessness or to laugh at the comicality of the situation. This is for you to decide. Although the hero of our story in any case will have a hard time.

Cyanide & Happiness - Freakpocalypse (Episode 1)
The game gives a few laughs and so far the story seems to be intriguing, so I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes next. And it’s nice to see some familiar characters from the animated shorts in it.
Some problem I have with this game is how much of it is exploration and how little is a part of the story itself. The game can be completed really quickly if you only focus on the tasks they give you. But there’s a bunch of locations and countless of objects you can interact with in each of them. So vast majority of the game is just clicking everything and listening to your character saying something funny about it, coming up with another pun (I swear this game contains every single pun you could ever come up with), sometimes unlocking a costume piece or giving you some easter egg. I don’t think the balance is right if I have to spend hours examining all the new locations open to me, but when I move on to actually do the tasks to carry on in the game, it turns out it only takes a few minutes and suddenly I’m back to having to explore more locations.

Or whether you’ve come because of your malnutrition or your terrible body odour … well, that’s how you constantly get treated in Cyanide & Happiness - Freakpocalypse. Funded on Kickstarter, it is based on the dark yet humorous Explosm comics. To ensure that the humour and character design of the comics is also reflected in the game, publisher Serenity Forge and developer Skeleton Crew Studios have worked closely with Explosm and I-Mockery. With Cyanide & Happiness - Freakpocalypse, subtitled Hall Pass To Hell, the first of three planned parts has now been released.

HARTS ISLAND
Ben Lunato has a talent for making walking simulators with relatable narrative and intriguing visuals, I think he does it better than a lot of the $20 games in this genre, but the scale and technical limitations of those games are completely understandable. I played a couple of his indie games that generally work as short aesthetic experiences, and even though they may lack in content, they always have an emotional impact on me. I will say that I didn’t enjoy this game as much, mainly because I found the environment a little hard on the eyes, often causing me to walk in circles and backtrack to previous locations, unsure where the next event was - not to mention getting stuck on invisible artefacts. If this was like a $10 game I would say it’s probably not worth it, but luckily Ben prices his games dirt cheap, so I would recommend this strange journey if you enjoy a psychological experience.

Imagine if J.K. Simmons' character from Whiplash was given free reign to narrate a game about… traumatic experiences and a mental breakdown? I don’t know what HARTS ISLAND is about exactly but the voice actor is the best thing about it. I just feel bad for anyone playing this called Jake, Gretchen, or Morty. Walk around the island off the coast of New York City and get teleported around into more bizarre, avant-garde experiences. This is a 26 minute, mostly cinematic experience with some very basic interactions, running on the Unreal Engine. It is unpleasant visually and audibly, at times. It is artistic, experimental, and just plain weird. I think it may be autobiographical from the dev and it certainly feels at times as though he is talking to himself mostly and then sometimes at you.

This was pretty wild to me when I played it back in the day on Viveport. I think it had a different name. It has a unique art style with very high contrast and funky pixelation and color grading. I don’t know what those words mean. I don’t really understand the theme, something about game development. Wolfenstein 3d is name dropped once, and is likely the most memorable part of the experience. I liked the last scene on the beach where the gummy bears down by the water look at you. You might also notice a certain review blurb down on the steam store page. That’s me! What happened was I uploaded the viveport video, and the developer was like ‘hey can you please remove it’, and I demurred. Now I understand that I was in the wrong, and should have complied with their polite request. Other VR developers (3-4 at least) have clipped my youtube videos and I’ve gotten strikes just because I had the temerity to say that their game sucks, or sometimes that the game is good!
