It’s been a while since I played chess and when I tried this game I could remember that beginner feeling.

I Recommend this game for those who like chess and also likes a good mind challenge.

I liked some scenario items left behind … buckets, wooden decks and wagons that block areas in board, these kind of things got rid of predicables movements and make things more challenging. I also liked the way some parts got half-covered by snow, this increase the challenge and make me think twice on choosing where to move … specially against Bishops. A little suggestion to improve a sense of progress could be some kind of icon or text that tells the current chapter and stage.

Move chess knights across varying boards to pick up pieces from one square and return them to home squares while avoiding being taken by AI driven enemy pieces.

There are a lot of issues here, the difficulty wildly varies, though ultimately never gets particularly clever and many of the puzzles become just a matter of moving one of your safe pieces back and forth until the board state lets you win.

Some levels try to limit that which is where you feel a sudden difficulty spike which just ends up being more frustrating than challenging.

So, every time I would checkmate the AI, the game would crash. Due to the fact that most of the other reviews also have low playtime, I am assuming it is either a new glitch or they didn’t play long enough to run into it.

The description of this game does not do it justice. Roguelike based on mathematical puzzles sounds like an arithmetic quiz program or someone packaging puzzles in a mediocre framework. One of the reviews even said it would be ok without the math. I envisioned puzzles where there was a correct solution every time.

This is first a roguelike (oldschool roguelike), and the ‘puzzles’ are, like a game play in awell designed roguelike, emergent - naturally arising from the procedurally generated world. There are often many good solutions to the puzzles, and the game play revolves around finding good enough solutions, and using your resources wisely.

Very cool, but very specific game. If you are a mathematician, programmer, roguelike fan or just a nerd, most likely, this game is for you. Otherwise… Anyway, if you’re not outright scared with the concept of killing ancient beasts with the power of math, you should give it a try.

You can start with the free version . Keep in mind, though, that free version lacks some recent and/or steam-specific features.

This also includes when players decide to switch storylines to a different faction. For example, if you build up a character to a 20 during one storyline, you will start the other storyline with a 20 so you are not starting over. The games AI will scale automatically.

STORYLINES

  • War of the Aetherblade is the 1st season of the Mythic Legions Tactics game and is set in the high-fantasy world of Mythic Legions with Humans, Elves, Knights, Orcs, Trolls, Undead Skeletons and Vampires, and more

  • The game’s story starts with the coronation of the Elven Queen Artemyss Silverchord at Castle Silverhorn. During the ceremony, the castle is attacked by the Legion of Arethyr and the mystical Aetherblade sword is stolen. Queen Artemyss’s legion, along with other factions and splinter cells, are now racing to win back control of the Aetherblade before it falls into the hands of its master Arethyr and he lays waste to the realm of Mythoss.

  • Play the storyline as different factions – Mythic Legions has a deep storyline and there will be 5 factions included in the Single Player game.

  • When a player does decide to switch factions, the skill and power levels that they’ve already built up will be transferred to their new storyline. So players don’t have to start from scratch.

  • Boss Battles – every Faction will feature a boss battle featuring one of the core characters from the Mythic Legions universe

  • Side Missions – Each storyline will have side missions (like a jail break out) and challenges that will either advance the story or unlock bonuses.

WHAT MAKES MYTHIC LEGIONS TACTICS UNIQUE?

  • 3D Realistic Levels - Most Tactics games are 2D and won’t let you rotate the camera around to see different angles. The few 3D Tactics games that exist are made where the environment itself is made of just a bunch of textured 3D squares of Hexes instead of more realistic environments. Instead we place the Hex grid over the environment instead of making it using them.

  • Visual Customization - Lots of games allow for visual customizations, but we believe we have taken it much further. Not only are we customizing the standard things like skin color, face, hair, tattoos, but every piece of armor and weapon can be recolored to any color, mix and matched between different types, and effects can be added to each such as flames or frost. The customizer in this game will literally let anyone create a digital action figure and pose them in a display environment as well as shared with anyone to see your collection.

  • Slot Based Characters - This is slightly more difficult to explain. The basic concept is that all of the character data is stored in a specific slot. Since Mythic Legions Tactics lets you play 5 Single Player Faction storylines as well as Multiplayer battles, we didn’t want the player to always have to start back off at level 1 every time they choose a different story or played Multiplayer. So to accomplish this you can create a different playable Character for each Faction storyline and even different ones for Multiplayer all within the same slot allowing the slot to level up. This slot continues to grow the more the player plays the game, so no matter if you are playing Single Player stories or Multiplayer battles, the Slot keeps its experience, Skills, and unlocked Classes.

  • No Pay To Win (Everything is Skill Based) - Well when we set out to make this game, one of the most important elements was to make sure it wasn’t something people could just come in, buy a bunch of overpowered equipment, items, etc… and just destroy other people. So instead we removed ALL stat boosts, specials, and other enhancements from equipment. We made the game more about how skillful your characters are with each weapon, armor, or item. So by unlocking a skill, that skill then levels up as the character uses it more there by increasing the stats, attack, defense, etc… of the character. So the more you play the more your character improves instead of buying that improvement!

  • Melded Classes - This is probably one of the most unique features for Mythic Legions Tactics. This allows players to essentially merge two different classes into a new one. As an example, if you leveled your character up to unlock the classes for Priest and Mage. You could Meld the two into a new hybrid class called a Blue Mage which gives the player access to most of the same Skills and Spells for both classes as well as a few new unique ones to the new hybrid class called Blue Mage. A more extreme example would be melding a Barbarian with a Necromancer. Honestly I don’t know what the new hybrid class would be called just yet, but they are on opposite sides of the Classes hierarchy with very different Stat requirements. But at the same time it is absolutely something you could do and allows for people to have a lot more fun trying out the various options for potentially hundreds of unique classes!

  • Turn-Based Strategy with Auto-Battle - Most tactics game battles take a long time to complete even a single one. Some people love this. It means you can get 50+ hours of gameplay in a single game. However, others don’t like the tedium of having to choose every action for their characters to attack the enemy. While it is far more efficient to do so, it also isn’t always necessary if you are grinding to level up, or just want to play to see the story. To make the game more enjoyable for everyone, we have added what are called Battle Templates. The game will come with a few pre-made ones, but essentially a Battle Template allows you to select a set of predefined rules and action for your characters to follow instead of you having to decide each and every action. This will let you be able to just Auto-Battle levels by having your team just go through those actions automatically so you can enjoy leveling up, the customization, and the amazing story. Also, just so everyone knows, Battle-Templates work on both Single Player story levels and Multiplayer!

  • Win Conditions - Normally win conditions in a tactics game are just to defeat everyone. We are definitely going to have that win condition, but sometimes the win condition might be to sneak past guards and unlock something, get all of your players to a specific area on the map without losing anyone, or incapacitate the enemy instead of kill them. These different types will offer a variety of gameplay options not seen in strategy tactics games.

Each piece would also like to see its story to the end, but you, as the player, know that will not always be possible. Sacrifices have to be made. And stories will change and adapt because of them. Some will be cut short, some will be epic, but most of them will have to face tragedy sooner or later.

For those needing comparisons, think more Into the Breach than Banner Saga._

Pendragon has captured my attention in a way that very few games manage.

I describe this game as a chess-like narrative roguelike.

The roguelike aspect is straightforward, with each run following the same general structure : choose a hero and make your way to Camlann to aid King Arthur in the fight against the evil Mordred, dispatching enemies and recruiting allies along the way.

Mechanically, it is not a game of chess, but it is a very good analogy to get oneself into the mindset required to play Pendragon effectively - in order to be successful at the higher difficulties, one must be thoughtful in the moves they pick, their potential consequences, and how the enemies may react to them.

This is an excellent game, probably the best deck-builder I have ever played. It feels like a hybrid of Ascension and Thunderstone, without feeling totally derivative. Unfortunately, the game is rather unstable in its current state. The garrison area is a central part of the late game, but using the right-click menu to garrison a hero causes a crash a majority of the time, though you can drag a hero to the garrison area without a problem. There are a few other stablity issues where the AI will crash the game, but those are less frequent (maybe 10-15% of the time). The UI is also a bit clunky.

On the scale of Yuck to Feast, I’d rate this one a “Gruel”

There’s enough stupid-grindy nutrition to survive on here, but after giving it a solid effort, I’d say it’s comprehensively unsatisfying.

Disclaimer - I like these stupid games on the PC instead of my phone for some time-wasting (yeah yeah, Steam community generally hates them), and I’m still hoping Steam will provide a fresh one worth digging into (e.g. Onmyoji, Rot3K (RIP), Forge of Gods (RIP)). I generally don’t care if it’s P2W, and am more interested in whether it’s fun and/or semi-competitive to play for free or on a budget.

It gets kinda tiring if you are down for hardcore get things done.

But if you are just there bypass time. 10 mins a day, this is a game for you.

never think of making it a game of the day for you. no this is an idler game. only worth 10 mins or less daily for you. or even play it every two days.

Then this game will last awhile for you. I mean a few weeks till you get bored of that dungeon you never clear, even you have all the potions with you, but gears are just very grindy to get unless you spend tons of diamonds to get #pay to win.

I saw Celerity play this game on one of his streams and it looked fun. I’ve never played Into the Breach, but I do like Slay the Spire, Monster Train and other turn-based strategy games so I thought I’d give this a shot.

I will say, this game has an extremely steep learning curve. The mechanics themselves are pretty simple, however you will probably die a ton to boss fights in particular, mainly because summon effects are not properly explained. The scorpion boss in act 2 and the lion boss in act 1 are the most egregious examples of this. It would be nice to have a tooltip somewhere that showed what units were spawned when a unit dies.

Game was fun for the first few hours, but becomes extremely repetitive, because players are forced to restart the entire campaign (27 levels) every time they lose a level. This is not a bad feature for a hardcore game for the hardcore gamers, but considering that this is basically a mobile style turn-based tactical strategy game costing $13 (minus the pay-to-win gimmicks), the game is a bit simplistic and repetitive to force players to do Iron Man mode as the only mode.

RNG is the real determining factor in this game as well. You are guaranteed to fail on a run depending on what “upgrade tablets” appear for you to choose from, as well as certain units. The was 1 run I made where I got about 1/3 of my characters' upgrades to be Epic & Legendary ones, and another where I got to level 15 with only commons ones to choose from for each of the 3 characters for example.
