Game Of Puzzles: Slavic Mythology

Game Of Puzzles: Slavic Mythology

A very easy, relaxing game with beautiful artwork. The main draw for me was its educational jumping off point to look into the folklore creatures more thoroughly elsewhere. The game play is a simple jigsaw puzzle block mover, and I got through it all in less than an hour on my first play through. I’ve gone back to it a few times when I’ve been stressed and just wanted a pretty game where I had no possible way of failing.

I think the game would be good for kids.

Before the missionaries came to the Slavic lands to start writing down the known history, there was the Age of Mythos:

Forests, valleys and fields are full of creatures from Slavic beliefs. Even though they may look like monsters, you don’t have to fight them all. Make proper offerings to them and you will gain powerful allies.

Give your workers a roof over their heads and a good supper and they will build a thriving settlement for you. Do not disappoint your subjects, because dissatisfied people may leave you.

A long spear and a sharp sword will always be useful - your settlement is threatened by monsters, other tribes, Vikings or even demons from distant lands.

Follow Slavic traditions to earn points that you may spend on special blessings from the gods - the warlike Perun, the generous Mokosh and the mysterious Veles.

Apotheon

Apotheon

Apotheon is a 2D game about Greek mythology. Apotheon means “exalted to the state of godhood.” The Ancient Greek gods that we know from Greek mythology and their powers are on display in this game. The storytelling feels quite accurate and would make anyone with knowledge of Greek mythology feel welcome to play this game from the beginning.

The protagonist is Nikandreos. Nikandreos means “victory of a man.” Combine Apotheon with Nikandreos and you can imagine what direction the story of this game will be taking. As Nikandreos you will traverse the map ascending to Mount Olympus and be asked to topple Zeus, the father of the gods. The art direction is quite impressive for a 2D game, which includes patterns, shapes, and figures known to be found on Greek pottery. There are diverse weapons and armor that appropriately reflect Ancient Greece. The weapons and armor tend to wear out from use, so you must find or buy new weapons and armor. This is when marketplaces such as Agora and Acropolis come into play. Agora and Acropolis are marketplaces that include weapon merchants, armor merchants, and black market merchants are selling their items. Black market merchants sell the rare weapons, weapons you will find that have unique properties.

As a casual player I liked this game a lot: A God-of-War-like plot, classic platforming, a great variety of arms and enemies (though I hated all dog-like creatures, as I do in every game) and nearly everything of your heart’s desire (if you’re into platformers) apart from platforming challenges (as you can find them e.g. in Ori and the Blind Forest) make it really a great game. What I probably liked best was that every bossfight had its very own gimmick, so you don’t just hit and roll and rinse and repeat all over hoping you can finally kill the boss and then do the same thing all over again with the next one, no, the devs have been really creative in designing customized bossfights (Yet Poseidon is a tough nut to crack and also the pre-final fight against Zeus packs a punch, but all the others are less difficult. Personally I liked best the fight for the Aegis of Athena, since in my eyes it’s the most creative one and the reward one of the most useful in the entire game). Also the difficulty level is absolutely acceptable: It’s neither too hard nor too easy, even on Olympian difficulty it absolutely remains playable and does not even become as difficult as e.g. Salt and Sanctuary ordinarily is. All in all a fantastic game.

Chess Knights: Viking Lands

Chess Knights: Viking Lands

It’s been a while since I played chess and when I tried this game I could remember that beginner feeling.

I Recommend this game for those who like chess and also likes a good mind challenge.

I liked some scenario items left behind … buckets, wooden decks and wagons that block areas in board, these kind of things got rid of predicables movements and make things more challenging. I also liked the way some parts got half-covered by snow, this increase the challenge and make me think twice on choosing where to move … specially against Bishops. A little suggestion to improve a sense of progress could be some kind of icon or text that tells the current chapter and stage.

Move chess knights across varying boards to pick up pieces from one square and return them to home squares while avoiding being taken by AI driven enemy pieces.

There are a lot of issues here, the difficulty wildly varies, though ultimately never gets particularly clever and many of the puzzles become just a matter of moving one of your safe pieces back and forth until the board state lets you win.

Some levels try to limit that which is where you feel a sudden difficulty spike which just ends up being more frustrating than challenging.

God of Riffs does seem to have a lot of potential. The recent 0.8.3 update brought many QoL updates, which significantly improved the quality of the game, and the developers are quite active on their discord server.

Break Bounds: Exile 越界:流放者

Break Bounds: Exile 越界:流放者

Game Introduction:

This is an Early Access game. It’s kind of interactive story game. Players will take on the role of a legendary character in a near-realistic sci-fi-set world, learning about himself and others, and about their relationship to the world, through dialogue with other characters, psychological analysis, environmental exploration and combat; unlocking the great mysteries hidden about the world, and the character himself. In Break Bounds: Exile we have experimented with different artistic approaches to presenting different scenarios in the game to give the product a more dramatic effect. For example, we used 3D scenes to suggest a stage and 2D characters to suggest that the characters were actors on a stage, and we also used different art forms, both figurative and abstract, to show the difference between the real world and the dream world.

Version Introduction:

The game is currently 1.5 to 2.5 hours of gameplay, which consists of basic worldview background disclosure, basic plot construction, basic environment exploration and puzzle solving, basic psychological puzzle solving, basic interaction with scenes and characters, and basic action and combat. The pacing of the game starts with a soothing storyline and ends with a very first battle, combining psychological puzzle solving, interaction and basic combat elements, allowing players to immerse themselves in the world created by the game relatively quickly.

In the future, the full version of the game will further upgrade the environmental exploration and puzzle solving as the plot progresses, increase the level and complexity of the psychological puzzle solving, improve the complexity of the game’s action and combat gameplay, open up regional map exploration, open up item collection, open up prop synthesis and more.

Game Features and Pricing:

The biggest highlights of the game at this stage are the immersive game design, multiple gameplay styles and unique narrative, including the seamless connection between cinematic footage and actual game play, the musical atmosphere, and the enhanced immersion of the plot. The Early Access stage of this game is priced at around 30% to 40% of the full version, aiming to provide the best purchase price for those who have supported us since the early days of the game’s promotion, and we sincerely thank you for your support.

Follow-up Game Version Introduction:

The full version of the game is designed to be around 20 hours in length, and the gameplay will be heavily expanded from the existing one. The full version of the game will feature around 50 characters, all of whom will have their own stories, performances, interactions, and more. There will be over a hundred background characters.

The full version of the game will have 8 to 10 chapters, guided by multiple main storylines interspersed, each chapter will be represented by a unique style and different expressions, and the tasks to be completed in each chapter will be relatively independent.

We will do our best to bring you an emotional and playful experience with laughter and tears, sadness and joy, which takes place in a virtual world but is nevertheless engraved in your heart.

Hoards of Glory

Hoards of Glory

I really enjoy the attack/defense dynamics. It adds a level of strategy beyond luck of random die rolls.

Being brand new, the game has a few quirks, but i’m confident the devs will deal with them in time.

Real player with 52.4 hrs in game

Edit: I have found a few bugs. D3D error that froze the game, upon resuming that save, the AI’s kept rolling their winning shields but continuously used them for shields rather than winning the game.

A simple dice placement game. With dice games, luck is always a big factor and as long as their is a mechanic to mitigate the luck, the game becomes interesting. In Hoards of Glory your dice choices are: place dice on the board to try to fill it for the win, attack another players dice pool to set them back, defend your dice pool from players that have a large dice pool and may go on the attack, put dice in the bank so you can buy new ones at the beginning of your next turn, any combination of these can be done in a turn. The game has AI players and online, although I don’t know how many people have this game so I’m not sure if finding opponents is possible. This is one of those hidden gems, simple and fun.

Journey For Elysium

Journey For Elysium

Offers approximately 2-3 hours of beautiful scenery and mystery. One of the first vr experiences for me and I could handle it without teleports with regular breaks.

  • main voice actors are good

  • very atmospheric, especially in the beginning

  • In the game you travel with a row boat. The mechanics for that are great! I was able to avoid motion sickness altogether by going slow, it also fits the mood well.

  • puzzles and climbing mechanics do not overstay their welcome and never become a hindrance to the story.

Real player with 5.3 hrs in game

I’d recommend this! A fun VR experience that takes you down into the underworld to explore the path to your character’s afterlife. It’s a bit of a depressing story, haha, but the game was very enjoyable! The climbing mechanic is something I haven’t done in a VR game before, and it was really fun (and a bit of a workout!) If you want a fun game that comes with some new experiences, give this a play.

My two little notes for the developers are these: (1) Sometimes the hand-grabbing controls were a little off. For example, when trying to climb, it was easy to (apparently) not actually be holding on to the thing. This was mostly very annoying during the final (first) tower climb. Another example is when plucking strings, the hand didn’t always make the correct finger-out position, so it was a little more difficult to know where you were “aiming” your hand. and (2) some of the “cutscenes” are a little long to be standing there in the world doing nothing for. Especially the parts in the tunnel (while on the boat, discovering a string of past memories) and the final one (though, maybe that’s because I had to do it multiple times due to the way the game saves and having to restart it because the final arrow was glitching.) Well done finishing a game and getting it out there! I enjoyed my playthrough. :)

A beautiful adventure game with “retro” design sensibilities that must be experienced at least once in a lifetime.

A classic tale of an epic, heroic journey to defeat a powerful evil being, paired with a huge and fantastically crafted world to explore. Presentation is definitely this game’s strength, to the point it can sometimes become overwhelming. A few things I didn’t like was that the game draws out for too long on some parts of the story and because of this, the combat can become tiresome due to it not being used to the fullest. Port itself is excellent and while 60 fps would have been amazing, the 30fps cap is understandable and doesn’t get in the way.
