Pedro’s Adventures in Spanish [Learn Spanish]

Pedro’s Adventures in Spanish [Learn Spanish]

Very simple, suitable for learning Spanish in a fun way; the graphics are in 2D but detailed enough so that you can see the details well.

The game has a plot that you have to follow, you play the young Pedro, the story starts with a beautiful princess who is kidnapped, but who took her? and where did it go?

You have to help Pedro to get to the Castle to find the princess and bring her back home.

There is no translation, but only the Spanish language, there is a tutorial that helps you at the beginning, it is quite easy to understand because we can associate the words with the objects we see or the actions we have to perform.

Hola soy Pedro.

I started this game knowing not a single word of Spanish but after persisting I was gradually able to work out a lot of the key words. You can just click around and try and do the puzzles without trying to figure out what people are telling you but I soon got stuck with this approach. Spending a bit of time in the world you will find obvious clues that people tell you. Sometimes they just outright tell you what to do which you can miss if you are not carefully listening. Music in the game is really relaxing and reminds me of Activate Jetpack cross with a JRPG.

The Light at the End of the Ocean

The Light at the End of the Ocean

I actually really liked this visual novel, and if you like queer based visual novels - you’ll probably like it too! You can play it multiple times to get different endings. It’s fun unraveling the mystery. It’s also very nice that the creator showed you how to unlock a special Easter egg. I circled around it for about a year, trying to decide if I pull the trigger or not. By the time I grabbed it, I was kicking myself for not getting it sooner. It’s just seemed so obvious that I would have enjoyed it.

Developer: Jane Titor

Pros:

1. The story is a unique mixture of mystery and pain, how each character has a large purpose guiding the main character through the mysterious place.

2. The characters are all presented in an interesting way in the beginning, just going by who they are instead of their names until later on such as Guest, Keeper, Archivist.

Another student project from Breda University of Applied Sciences , this one transports you into a magical realm of the Norse Gods, stranded on an island after a mysterious storm capsizes your ship and leaves you almost dead on the shores.

With your life slipping away, Odin grants you a blessing, tethers your life to this plane and sends Muninn, one of his loyal ravens, to guide you in escaping and returning to your home. The blessing has a duration and you need to replenish it at shrines dotted around the island that also act as save and respawn points if you die. Storywise, this is a great mechanic as it evokes the feeling of being in another realm and adds some urgency to your escape. Gameplaywise, the blessing runs out far too quickly and you will find yourself thinking about shrines far more than you need to. Depending on your patience, it can become a slight annoyance.

Positive points:

  • Graphics

  • Music

  • Story writing

  • Mechanics

  • Losing items upon death

I took my sweet time to sit down and play this game and let me tell you it was worth those hours I put in. The visuals are stunning and the music is there to match. The story captivates you and in fact it drew me in almost immediately. At first glance I was just going to check out the game and see what I think I had no intention of actually playing it till the end. But after a bit I got interested in the story and I really wanted to see how it would end so I did. The mechanics of the game itself are fun and interesting, combining exploration, parkour (to a degree), puzzles and resource gathering. While at some later stages this all does seem a bit tedious the developers made sure to include short cuts so you don’t have to walk around the long route each time and can quickly go back and forth. And to make the game a bit more exciting you in fact have the possibility to lose your entire normal inventory upon death (not your quest inventory) making walking across that small tree bridge over the ravine just a bit more tense.

This game, it takes the words from your very beating breast. It robs you of the very words you would only use to worship it’s form. It contains the pure essence of the great Bard himself, William Shakespeare. It bears his name but is no pretender, for it practically is one of his great works. Alongside Macbeth and Othello, this game should go down in history as a masterpiece of writing that shall be studied for years to come.

It contains life-changing dialogue that brings the characters to life with the ease and grace of a Toy Story movie. The line “my sauce transcends form” really speaks to the human experience, speaking of the uniqueness of each person’s true nature or “sauce”.

Jung’s Labyrinth

Jung’s Labyrinth

What an experience. Now I know what it truly means to be labyrinthine, frustrated, as the dev perhaps intended us to be, in the true nature of the journey to the centre of oneself. I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. The images and realisations it invoked, whether directly or indirectly, were sublime. The music flowed effortlessly with the scenes, some of which where completely breathtaking–the magician’s place and the puer’s playground to mention a couple. I especially liked the Trickster part and the role it played in the game, as I personally have a troublesome relation with that archetype. It was also personally rewarding to catch the various references, as I have been reading Jung for a few years now. There is so much I wish to say about this game, and yet I shall try to contain myself. Gameplay-wise, I am lucky that my system was able to run it, and the minor bugs (‘moon jump’ during the albedo segment to name one, unless deliberate) were thankfully not troublesome at all.

Whilst there are some stylistic choices that weren’t always to my taste, this game more than makes up for it with heart and integrity. I’m not typically much of a videogame enthusiast, but occasionally something like this will catch my eye that looks interesting and immersive. And indeed it was. I found the individual habitats of the archetypes most enjoyable and was always looking forward to who I might next meet and how the archetype might be portrayed. These little individual occasions felt somewhat museum-like in tone, as though I was exploring a virtual Jung exhibition, or experiencing a kind of immersive theatre. It was clear that a lot of detailed attention had been invested in creating an individual atmosphere for each archetype encounter. I do wish though that the player could have been more involved in each of these cases - maybe more options to pursue various threads of conversation, or particular challenges one must overcome to integrate each archetype.

So you’ve read the description and now you’re down here in the comments trying to figure out what’s it all about. Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game.

The Epic of Inanna is a visual novel with the occasional FMV thrown in. The voice acting is probably the best part of the game. The graphics, images and music are all pretty much average for what you’d expect for a visual novel.

Note This is like watching a movie. There are no choices to make, no multiple endings to find and probably no replayablity.

Covenanted

Covenanted

Covenanted is a hand-drawn rogue-like with RPG elements and an original turn-based combat system

A contract with the devil is always a bad idea [/]

The heroine of Covenanted, bound by a contract with the Devil, is on a journey through the magical world. Pursued by the Inquisition and blackmailed by the Devil, she has to balance between light and darkness in order to gain the support of powerful allies and break the endless cycle of rebirth

Combat Alchemy [/]

The journey is full of dangers! As the game progresses, the witch collects recipes for unique potions and gathers ingredients to make her magic even more powerful. Each recipe has its own unique effect

Procedural generation [/]

The global map of Covenanted is generated for each session. The variety of locations, the number of opponents and the available rewards are selected in such a way that each race is different from the previous one

Visual style [/]

We pride ourselves on the visual style of the game. All the main elements were drawn with ink on paper and digitized. The world of Covenanted is growing, our artists are working on new characters and locations

Random events and story quests [/]

We want players to feel the impact of the decisions made in story quests throughout the game. Despite one true ending, the fate of the Covenanted side heroes remains in the hands of the player

Fairy Middle Ages [/]

When creating the world, we were inspired by the worlds of the fantasy genre, world folklore, myths and legends. In Covenanted, elves and werewolves live in the same world with the characters of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales and ancient myths

It’s an old game but still a great game, never gets bored of the gameplay and stories, bought the deluxe during the autumn sale 50% discount. The new HD graphic looks good, main characters and some mobs now have voice acting, also now we can choose skills we need when fusing demons which is convenient. It was a pain and time-consuming before on PS2 that we had to keep shuffling until we get at least some okay skills. Hey Atlus, I wish you guys add Persona 5 Royal on PC too, yearning for that game so badly since a lot of us are unable to get a console.
