ChessCraft

ChessCraft

Never play the same game of chess again! ChessCraft is a chess AI sandbox. Create your own chess boards, rules, and pieces. Play against the computer or your friends online, or win loot by playing one of 80 built-in chess boards in adventure mode.

Many chess games already exist, but only ChessCraft allows the player to create such wacky boards, pieces, and rules and immediately play a decent computer opponent.

Create new pieces with any combination of the 8 bishop or rook slides, plus a 7x7 grid of knight-like hops. Create new boards with any enabled or disabled tile up to 16x16. Place promotion rules for any piece, anywhere, or other special tile rules. Create pieces that cannot be captured, or with ranged attacks, or pieces that restrict other pieces from acting. The computer opponent then uses concepts from computer science and graph theory to understand your creations and play against you.

So I really do like the idea of this game, and I did have a lot of fun playing it!

However I think the tutorial should be a little expanded? I still don’t quite understand how capturing the cities work and I played a few rounds with a friend.

I wish the sandbox had monoliths to fight so I could practice there, and I think it would be helpful if we could pick the Monoliths we’re using in the sandbox mode so that we could practice them against others.

Sometimes when you play the tutorial it freezes up and doesn’t actually play, but that can be remedied by closing the game and opening it again.

I recommend this game only because it is free. it seems like the game needs a little bug squashing and there is no single player. HOWEVER, I like the idea of it, the UI works, the art looks good, and the music is great! Here are some videos of gameplay and a broken tutorial:

Without multiplayer, there is not much to sink your teeth into, especially considering that the tutorial broke on the second “playthrough”. I would not suggest getting your hopes up for this until the player base expands or you have friends who are interested in playing.

I really enjoy the attack/defense dynamics. It adds a level of strategy beyond luck of random die rolls.

Being brand new, the game has a few quirks, but i’m confident the devs will deal with them in time.

Edit: I have found a few bugs. D3D error that froze the game, upon resuming that save, the AI’s kept rolling their winning shields but continuously used them for shields rather than winning the game.

A simple dice placement game. With dice games, luck is always a big factor and as long as their is a mechanic to mitigate the luck, the game becomes interesting. In Hoards of Glory your dice choices are: place dice on the board to try to fill it for the win, attack another players dice pool to set them back, defend your dice pool from players that have a large dice pool and may go on the attack, put dice in the bank so you can buy new ones at the beginning of your next turn, any combination of these can be done in a turn. The game has AI players and online, although I don’t know how many people have this game so I’m not sure if finding opponents is possible. This is one of those hidden gems, simple and fun.

Achilles: Legends Untold

Achilles: Legends Untold

Take part in the journey of Achilles, who stands in the middle of the centuries-long conflict between Hades and Ares. The young hero is being sent to battle the War God’s child – Phobos. His journey will take him to many different corners of mythological lands where he will obtain powerful artifacts that will aid him in his quest. Achilles is not alone as Hephaistos – the god of blacksmiths - is always ready to craft new weapons in exchange for materials.

Achilles: Legends Untold is an isometric action RPG game, greatly inspired by the souls-like genre and old-school hack&slash games. The players will venture through many unwelcoming locations, battling legendary creatures and trying to piece up the story of the world. The game is a bit lighter on the “souls” side, as the studio wanted to create an easy-to-learn but hard to master experience. Because of that, Achilles: Legends Untold may be enjoyed by the souls veterans and new players alike. And if help is needed, just summon your friends to play together in jolly cooperation, and explore various dungeons together.

The gameplay features enjoyable and skill-based combat, RPG elements, and resource management. Every item found on the journey might prove itself useful in creating new weapons and gear when brought back to Hephaistos. Throughout the game, players will become more and more skillful alongside the main character, gaining the ability to take on even more powerful foes! And you can be sure there are plenty of abominable and dreadful enemies that will cross your path.

Achilles: Legends Untold also features an innovative GAIA system, responsible for the AI characters’ actions who feel lifelike and work together in unpredictable ways. Experience immersive battles in which monsters adapt to your playstyle, try different strategies, or create ambush scenarios, driven by this contemporary in-house designed system.

Will you be persistent enough to grow in strength and take down Ares?

  • An engaging and original story inspired by the Greek mythology

  • Beautiful, eye-catching graphic design

  • Deep combat inspired by the souls-like genre and old-school hack&slash games

  • Easy to learn and hard to master gameplay

  • Jolly cooperation!

One of if not THE ONLY “God game” I have ever played that is not another RTS borefest.

You do not have to build everything for the people and I love that!

You place land tiles in a seemingly infinite grid. Land tiles such as grasslands, Forests, Deserts, Oceans, and the such. Each prividing different resources for little humans who live grow and die all on their own.

The game is still being developed and will continue to get better as the dev Myron continues to expand and advance the game.

Simply put, this is the first real God game!

It’s neither Black and White nor Populous, but that’s okay because Deisim actually manages to carve out it’s own identity as a God game somewhere in between. Actually, on the surface Deisim kind of makes me think of Godus, except this is actually a good game. And in fact, one mind blowing consideration is that even in its current Early Access stage, Deisim is already a better game than Godus, despite being made by just one guy.

So anyway, the emphasis is on the placement of land tiles that you use to shape the environment, which then leads to tribal villages popping up. The villages will then use the environmental resources you’ve placed to grow and prosper, and eventually evolve into small towns, leading to more believers and more mana. Although indirect interaction is mainly how you grow your world, direct interaction is possible too, such as picking up villagers and buildings, or casting spells directly on things to either help or hinder the villagers. Towns will inevitably begin to spawn heretics who if given too much leeway, will convert their town into a heretic faith, eventually causing them to wage wars of conquest on their neighbours. To deal with this, a good old dose of fire or locusts can convince the heretics the error of their ways and show them that yours is the true faith.

So, every time I would checkmate the AI, the game would crash. Due to the fact that most of the other reviews also have low playtime, I am assuming it is either a new glitch or they didn’t play long enough to run into it.

Hey Devs, great game. I found some of the levels challenging and a good use of logic. I did my first run in 14 hrs. and even enjoyed a second run to collect my missing collectible achievement. The jumping portions in some of the puzzles were quite easy once I figured out the timing sequence. A well thought out game and highly recommended. I’d like to see a sequel.

Awesome game. Addictive. Absolutely beautiful to look at. The puzzles are challenging and interesting. Its also pretty simple and straightforward but with a cool backstory. Would be fun to have a 2 player option, making the puzzles even more mind-bending. I really hope they make a sequel!

Malum

Malum

Malum is a gem among the likes of Pacify or Devour, where you complete objectives and narrowly avoid the demons and monsters chasing you.

Your objective, place relics found about the map in the summoning circle to complete the ritual. The location of each relic and summoning circle is procedurally generated, and to determine the type of ritual to complete, you’ll need your torch to find otherworldly runes emblazoned on the walls that aren’t visible to the naked eye. Three runes can be cross-referenced in a Phasmo-esque journal, but be quick, the demon doesn’t wait for you to leisurely thumb through pages of arcane text.

Fun game! I love that each level has a unique feel and slightly different gameplay. Fun co-op game to play with friends and challenging game to solo. The dev is very active and is still adding content!

The Hospital level, in my opinion, is the most challenging. It is the largest level and the main demon can teleport you around the map. This map is best played in groups, although I know people who enjoy the challenge of trying to solo it. It is absolutely possible to hide/escape from anything that can kill you, even if she teleports to you. There is a cooldown before she chases you, so that gives you time to escape, if you are smart about it.
