Detective Butler: Maiden Voyage Murder

Detective Butler: Maiden Voyage Murder

Nice detective kinetic novel for one or two afternoons I guess (yeah, there are actually no choices at all) and one that is completely FREE at that. It’s full of overused tropes and it doesn’t take itself seriously at times but I certainly wouldn’t call it bad either as it leaves some food for the thought in the end, so it’s probably somewhere in between.

So yeah - it was enjoyable yet also flawed experience for me. Women characters here are mostly likeable and detailed but all man except captain and protagonist father would benefited from more developement. The pacing was actually pretty good but the mystery was maybe way too easy for me as I guessed the culprit and how everything happend right after the murder happened. Which is good and bad at the same time but thankfully the rest of the story was interesting to follow at least. But the main flaws were probably both main characters - detective Butler and main character (Golder’s son) unfortunately.

Excellent! A free murder mystery visual novel. It’s apparently the first part of Misadventures of Detective Butler series. Originally released in 2013 and then got onto Steam in 2017 with some edits and improvements. I liked this a lot. Has a lot of personal moments and mystery itself is fairly interesting. Albeit I really would like to force detective to grow some beard first. You don’t get to choose anything in a game, which is shame, as I think they could at least test us with picking a suspect at the end of a game. But hey, at least it gives enough clues to solve it fairly before the murderer is revealed.

Legends of Murder Collection

This set of games from 1989 were ahead of their time, and are a delight to play now. Steam DOSBox integration has the games running smoothly with modern resolutions, with few adjustments needed. These games feel like a past retro version of RPG maker, and it’s uncanny how intuitive they are to play today. Highly recommend - just make sure you use the interact key everywhere, because characters and objects are often invisible.

The Door Of Redemption

The Door Of Redemption

very poor english translation. many of the features that drew me to this arent implimented. and the syntax and command structure are counter intuitive. ive played many text adventures and this one just feels weird. i like the idea of using wasd for easy navigation but the commands for everything else just feels wrong, and isnt enjoyable for me. instead of “get box” or “look at picture” you have to type it out as ‘Get’ [enter] ‘Box] or ‘look’ [enter] ‘picture’. its an extra layer of tedium. and that coupled with the poor translation, and the use of characters that a pc anywhere out of japan wont have in the font banks, i just cant get my head around of it. having a map of the shape of the room is really what got me to buy this, but it uses messy characters, and no color variation between you, items and walls, so it just looks like nonsense.

Very simple game - quite repetitive as well. Admired the difficulty curve but ultimately very easy to get all of the Achievements. The same characters keep popping up every so often so it lacks variety in that area as well. I give it a 6 / 10

Heal Hitler

Heal Hitler

The game is interesting as far as the history aspect of it, however I feel it lacks any gameplay at all. It’s more like an interactive story. It says your decisions affect the end result, which can only go two directions, however I don’t feel like t he decisions change anything at all. The conversation stays the same bar in the first session where one particular question end sour. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter what option you choose, the Therapist character will ask the other questions anyway, so that leaves you feeling like there is not real point in you making a decision at all. The order doesn’t hold substance either as sometimes Hitler would respond that ‘i told you before’ when he in fact he had not, this would mean that I was supposed to ask something else beforehand.

I went in thinking this was a shitpost but came out with valuable insight. Hitler is basically Shinji but more based (and I think he is in a perfect mental state for it). There is a lot of historical accuracy with details about Hitler’s life to methodologies and perspectives in the psychological field at the time (which was still fairly new in practice),

I do feel that the game is largely unfinished. It’s a short and fun playthrough (if you’re into the humor that brought you here or are actually interested in psychology stuff) but the dialogue options were few and held the same result in the conversation. There were also times when the therapist would bring up something and I wouldn’t know what he was talking about because I didn’t choose the option or maybe it was in a session that we didn’t get to see.

Choices That Matter: And The Sun Went Out

Incredible, a definite must play if you enjoy CYOA books and games. While not literally every choice you make is going to change the course of the narrative, they hel immerse the player into the main character’s role, this paired with the intresting story and characters, and the intriguing mysteries make for an amazing experience if you like this kind of game

I’m just starting arc 5 i think and wow has it been a cool ride so far. i googled it and apparently on any given play through you only read 150,000 of a total 600,000 words which leads me to believe that these choices that seem like they really change whats going on, really do. Which also inspires anxiety but hey that’s all in the fun of making serious choices. so far solid 8/10 8.5 because canada eh
