Mad Experiments: Escape Room

Mad Experiments: Escape Room

We played this for a Coronavirus stay-at-home team event, with 15 people in 3 rooms, and everyone had a great time! It is definitely challenging but generates lots of fun conversation. We ended up using Zoom to talk with each other, and used the Zoom “breakout room” feature to split into the 3 rooms. This worked well; however, things work much easier if you run Zoom on a different machine than the game (Zoom on a phone, for example). Great game! We are looking forward to Chapter 2!

[Update] We had another team event playing through Chapter 2, and it was also great fun! It’s harder than Chapter 1, so don’t feel bad about making more liberal use of the hints . . .

A pretty good escape room experience, and I’m looking forward to the next chapter (coming out Nov 11!). If you have the cash to burn, I recommend it. After all, it’s cheaper than a real escape room session. Not for people who get extremely nauseated when playing 3d or first person games; I powered through the first chapter and had to take a break before moving on to the second. A friend and I played together and we had different opinions per chapter; she preferred the first, and I preferred the second. The game felt very polished, we did not run into any problems with objects disappearing or falling through the floor, as per older reviews. Mild spoilers/hints to follow.

Sweetlads' Werewolf

Sweetlads' Werewolf

Sweetlads' Werewolf is a fast paced game of deception based in 16th century England. Werewolves have infiltrated our village and left us isolated in these deep woods. Find out who you can trust and who is more interested in your flesh!

Votes aren’t confirmed until the end so every second counts to state your innocence and share your theories. With quick communication at the heart of our game we support and encourage voice chat. play with up to 24 players online or locally. Please note, the art is still in progress and not reflective of final gameplay

How to Play

Starting the game you will be assigned a random team - good or evil - and a random role.

The game is split into two repeating phases, day and night:

Day

The day begins with who was killed (or spared) last night, along side their last will.

Everyone discusses and votes on whom they think is a werewolf

Night

The night begins with who was hung during the day, along side their last will.

Werewolves vote who to kill and special roles can use their abilities

Roles

Villager - Good - no unique abilities

Seer - Good - Votes at night to reveal someone’s identity

Bodyguard - Good - Votes at night to protect a player

Martyr - Good - Votes at night to die in place of a player if they are attacked

Witness - Good - Votes at night to watch a player that if attacked reveals the killer

Survivor - Good - Can survive one attack only at night

Spy - Good - Can view the evil chat

Werewolf - Evil - Votes at night who to kill and has access to the evil chat

Wizard - Evil - Votes at night to reveal someone’s identity and has access to the evil chat

Traitor - Evil - Has access to the evil chat

How to Win

To win the Good team needs to hang all the Werewolves.

The Evil team wins when they outnumber the good team.

Broken Lines

Broken Lines

It is an “ok” game if you have no better alternatives. The reason I gave a thumb down is because of so many super positive reviews with which I disagree and think they distort the picture here.

TACTICS / GAMEPLAY - 3/5

The challenge curve is rather flat, mostly without any complex or demanding situations. Maps are all very similar in terms of combat challenges (very similar setups of obstacles, terrain, challenges etc).

One of the top reviewers here complained about pulling extra pods in Xcom due to bad mechanics - IT IS THE SAME HERE! Once you spot 1 enemy then the time does not stop when you discover more enemies. So you end up pulling more and more enemies and your soldiers once told to go somewhere, will never abort the order even if going straight into the enemy guns.

I would recommend Broken Lines for those seeking a simpler, yet more raw/ intense tactics gaming experience than XCom. If you’re just a fan of third person tactic games and want to try something with a neat tactical twist, Broken Lines is a great purchase.

Differences from your average squad based tactics game:

  • Biggest difference is the 8 second command increments. You provide your soldiers a series of orders to execute in sequence, then let time flow and see how they worked out.

  • Set characters means being able to bake in things like how your soldiers work together or interact based on your back story.

Pretend

So yesterday I was eating with my family when all of a sudden a “crew mate” broke in through the front door. He had a ski mask on and a gun which was sus, but he a good skin. My father told us all to hide so we don’t get killed by the obvious imposter. I could see him from my hiding spot under the table and he looked sus. So I told my dad “DAD YOU THINK HE IS THE IMPOSTER? HE IS SUS!” I yelled as loud as I could. The imposter found us hiding and shot my father five times. The imposter was so dumb, who kills someone in front of crew mates? I ran to call the emergency meeting by grabbing my phone off the table when I heard my mother get shot and scream for me. Lol she was so bad at among us. My teammates sucked and were dying to the worst Imposter. So I called the emergency meeting and for some reason a S.W.A.T team rammed down the door and killed the imposter. Lol that’s not how the game goes, I think they were hacking.

THE TALES OF THE BOOGEYMAN ARE ALL TRUE

Deep in the forest is the old manor. The dark fairy tale from childhood is being challenged by 4 innocents. They want to know if the myth of Ouija is true, but they never expect the presence of a real devil. Now they have to pay for their curiosity and for their lives because the Boogeyman is going to hunt them down.

The Boogeyman

With his legendary power, Boogeyman has to kill survivors as many as possible before they escape the village, and before the sunrise.

The Boogeyman has multiple unique skills to help him hunting survivors.

Survivors

As the result of their curiosity, they have to escape the Boogeyman by taking advantage of the environment, and cooperate with each other – but don’t think your friends are always your friends, they have multiple reasons to betray you!

Although those 4 friends don’t have remarkable skills like the Boogeyman, they can utilize items spread around the map to fight against the Boogeyman, to make the Boogeyman get trapped, or even kill the Boogeyman!

Progressive Play

The player and each character have their unique ways of leveling up. More details of the progressive play will come soon!

Enemy On Board

Enemy On Board

This is my new favourite game. Currently I have over 500+ hours on this game so I can give my review with some experience.

PROS:

1. Game is short, can finish a game between 2-10 minutes.

2. There is a lot of social deception in this game. Similar to other games like Avalon, Secret Hitler, Among Us, Project Winter, you will need to work together to win as crew.

3. This is an Early Access game, and the developers are adding new content all the time.

4. There is a high skill cap in both reading people and combat in the game.

Before I say anything else I want to make it clear, I wanted to test the new controls out before leaving a review for it, that’s why I made a different review for the old patch.

Before the WASD update review: I liked the game with its unique movement system in the genre, the game had it’s own charm in that it wasn’t just mindless combat or just heres some randoms figure out who the non innocent are then vote them out. Crew could actually fight back against aliens and while there was moments where the crew or my partner were counting on me to 1v2 or 1v4 I managed to overcome it and feel good in my accomplishment. Overall it was 9/10 for me, fun, interactive and unique in the genre.
