Shadows Peak

Shadows Peak

It’s scary. It really is. Not so much the jump scares kinda stuff, but more… the running of foot steps across the ground toward you. Tip-toeing through tall grass hoping you step in a bear trap. Sprinting along and hearing the hiss of a snake. And other things I won’t give away!

The game is roughly divided into two parts. The first is maybe a bit better than the second, but don’t listen to the reviews that say the last part is horrible. It definitely is not. There’s nothing that significantly stands out that says “the dev put more time/effort into the first part.”

As some of you may know as much as I love playing games on my PC I also have quite a lot of time for the console exclusive titles. One of my favorite games of 2015 was Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn. Ainslie and I played the shit out of that game. It hooked both of us together and we sat on her couch playing it for many many hours and made a lot of shared decisions to see how our playthrough would advance. It was one of the best gaming experiences the two of us have shared together. I was not expecting to find another horror game that would be comparable to that experience wise for a long time. That’s why when I found myself fortunate enough to play Andrii Vintsevych’s Shadows Peak I was more than a little bit surprised and deeply absorbed in its early access game play.

ATTENTION: REVIEW HAS SPOILERS!

First of all, I would like to congratulate the developers of the game for their work, because this is subject I am incredibly interested in.

I remember being 16 years old, and reading a magazine article about the Zodiac, and being equaly frightened and curious as I saw that drawing of the killer in his costume, as it was described by the surviving victim, Brian Hartnell. That, along with the letters and ciphers, is a case where what we expect could only happen in fiction became reality - someone was killing people, communicating with the public by sending letters to the press and challenging everyone to catch him (even making movie reviews, not kidding!). Since my youth, I have been acompanying the forums on the internet which discuss the Zodiac Killer case and all the recent news/info about it.

Meh. I wish there were a “Meh” button instead of whether I do or do not recommend. It depends.

I had this on my wishlist and anxiously awaited release, and when the first wave of reviews were mixed, and I read about issues with the stalker mode (and knowing my history f’ing HATING games where I’m trying to do puzzles while getting stalked/usually killed), decided to just play the story mode.

Wise choice. Was still spooky without constantly destroying my will to play by making me start over chapters when I would have been inevitably caught. For that, I thank the devs.

Evil Tonight

Evil Tonight

If Resident Evil Village hadn’t come out in July, Evil Tonight would be my personal Game of the Year. ET is the whole package; excellent art direction, great music, fun characters, and intriguing storyline, and a simple but sweet and satisfying gameplay loop.

Evil Tonight is a kind of survival horror action adventure, just without the horror. Think of it as more of a supernatural survival thriller through a whimsical anime lens, and you’ve got a good idea of what to expect. Sharp writing and clever puzzle design alongside simple but fun combat describe the experience perfectly.

This is a wonderfully challenging game. Great spritework, solid animations and character designs to boot. Just bear in mind that all the enemies hit like trucks so do expect to die a lot. The bosses I feel are challenging, but I do think that the stamina system isn’t necessary considering you already need to get close and personal with enemies most of the game if you want to conserve ammunition and you get hurt if you run into enemies anyway. Plus, you don’t deal a whole lot of damage with the knife, so most encounters you should expect to swing at your enemies at least four or five times to take them down at a minimum.

This game needs serious work! The atmosphere is quite ok, but the graphics are dull and uneventful. So is the time you spend playing - you sometimes see an undefined creature watching you, but it doesn’t really pose a thread.

The only thing you can do: run around and collect stuff. And sometimes the stuff you find can’t even be taken. The only deadly thing about this forest is dead by boredom.

If my own horror-novel becomes this boring, please shoot me…

i have completed almost all the three way to escape i just need to unlock the radio and escape from the helicopter rescue, it have some good tense moments and the freaking monster can follow you everywhere! i’ve tried to study his movements but he randomly patrol so quite hard but i think i found some patterns that at least can help escape, the graphic is pretty good it reminds me of silent hill good memories, about gameplay is very similar to outlast but more basic. As i understand is a very small team of devs so i understand if there are some small bugs but in the overall the game is really ok and i see their updating frequently

Real player with 9.8 hrs in game

The game is terribly buggy. Sometimes, it’ll randomly quit. Most manual saves are done at your own risk.

Escape from Zombie Tactics

THERE IS NO WAY TO KILL THE ZOMBIE!!!! That said, the best way to ESCAPE from it is by luring it to the warehouse up the stairs. Once it’s up there with you, jump down and run like the wind out the gates and to the right. It’ll stop being able to chase you for a time until it finds you again.

Truck Escape

need: gas can, pickup keys, bolt cutters, and wire hook. Go to the house truck. Place gas can in truck’s side. Use wire hook on back of truck. Use pickup keys on truck. Teleport to boulders. Use bolt cutters on fence. The End.

Strobophagia | Rave Horror

Strobophagia | Rave Horror

Okay, to start off, I really think this game is awesome. It’s got an interesting premise and a great atmosphere.

However, in it’s current state, it feels a little… lacking in some of the plot elements, especially towards the end. It is also a short game, and a little pricey for the length.

BUT, I believe that the potential in this game is very high, and that is what keeps me closely invested in this game’s development.

I just can’t recommend Strobophagia to the average player at it’s current stage. I’m leaving a negative review because I don’t want the average player to have a bad time because the game didn’t live up to their expectations. I will update this review(or make a new one) once the game gets smoothed out a little bit.

This game is amazing! I had to review it do to people giving it down rated reviews. I dont think thats entirely fair. The game is absolutely beautiful and it will run on anything. The sounds are great, the music is amazing and very industrial rave. The lighting is incredible, the game gets VERY scary at times and there is always a looming fear hanging over you at every turn. The game also has SO much potential. Ive only played it though once at the time of this post but i plan on replaying it again and again. I understand that 2.2 hours for a playthough is a bit short, and i hope they plan on adding more content, different endings, and things to do. However this game should get an up vote. If they added nothing to the game, the value would actually still seem fair to me. Give it a try, and if you feel its not full enough, maybe give it some time to build before down voting it as that can actually kill a great game, and this is indeed a great game. If you agree with me and want to see this game going strong, give it an up vote!

Apparition

man this is a great scary game

October 31 2020 UPDATE: It has been officially 2 full years since this game has come out on October 31 2018 and we have not have a single update but a date that telling us on Feb 26 2019 that the full release date of Apparition is in July of 2019 that never came true. No gravity games what is the hold up on this game beside dealing with Covid-19? I want to know because this game is not worth buying for 10 or 5 dollars for this if u only get one night in this game.

My previous review was glowing because it was in Early Access still and I expected a lot of the rough edges to be worked through. They brought the game to 80% and then walked away from it though. It has received no updates and will not be receiving any updates again. The idea is principally very sound but it plays like a demo more than a full game. The menus are very bad, you have to fail a lot to learn the rules, there are glitches that let monsters catch you through solid surfaces, the customizations are awful, and I was forgiving of those before when they were clearly still actively working on it on the assumption it was just a work in progress it but they’ve abandoned this project now. It’s not horrible as games go but you get what you get at this point and the end result feels like part of one level of what should have been a full game. Every time you escape the site with some paranormal evidence it adds to your running experience total which is used to buy more advanced gear so you’re effectively grinding one site with the exact same items in the same locations every time. Jump scares are the bulk of its offering.
