Breath

Breath

Breath is not an easy game, but it is not a long game too.

Start as a simple life-form and evolve your way by defeating the bosses in any order you wish. One ability gained from one boss can help you to defeat another one.

Can you beat the game without deaths? How fast can you beat it? Try yourself in “1 Life Mode” and “SpeedRun Mode”! Compete against your own time or set a custom time to try to be the fastest in the world!

Play multiple times trying different routes and, as you play, unlock new abilities to start the game with, adding layers of complexity.

Don’t forget to try to find all the hidden spider webs.

If you ever feel lost on how to play, pause the game (esc or start) and a button map will show up.

Life is but a Breath!

No option for changing the background which is unfortunate because the default really sucks. It’s so busy that I have problems seeing the cards easily. The choice of card backgrounds is very limited all of which are the same type artwork.

Pareidolia

“The experience of human life is an alternation of joy and suffering”

Pareidolia is a psychological horror, where you can control your character from two perspectives, which imply artistic style and gameplay.

Pareidolia is the tendency for perception to impose a meaningful interpretation on a nebulous stimulus, usually visual, so that one sees an object, pattern or meaning where there is none. Pareidolia is a game about a game. You will live in and out of it, meet different creatures and choose whether to help them. It all reflects how you see things.

Dracula Frames: Review

I showed up for the vampire and stayed for the puzzles. Bram Stoker would approve. He might even be stoked cough Moving on… ^, ,^

Dracula Frames was quite enjoyable, relaxing even. Well, except for when I did fairly poorly on a puzzle or two. Then I had to check my frustration. It was my own blunders, the puzzles just take a little patience and perseverance.

The art was wonderful, and the game is satisfying to complete. I did finish all 9 achievements. But I confess that the secret would have eluded me without help from the community guide. Shout out to Jamkolero. I did some of it on my own but I sincerely doubt I would have completed all the steps without help. You can wrap up the game in under 2 hours if you do not run into too much trouble with the slide puzzles. There are some 3x3 and 4x3 puzzles, I believe the largest is about 5x4.

Shadowhand: RPG Card Game

Shadowhand: RPG Card Game

Shadowhand (Solitaire/Battle-Card)

Options include Full-screen/Borderless Window, Tutorial, Show Blood and Custom Cursor. There are 3 difficulties (Relaxed, Normal, Very Hard), and each is clearly marked as to what is different. Difficulty can be changed before each chapter if you so wish.

The Basics:

Gameplay is similar to that of Faerie or Regency Solitaire, with cards being placed one lower or one higher. The first big difference here is that there are no face cards (Jack, Queen, King, Ace). Instead the cards range from 0 to 9. Zero can go on nine, and vice-versa.

Real player with 34.9 hrs in game

Shadowhand is a very fun and (mostly) relaxing way to spend an hour here and there. It took me around 23 hours to 100%, playing only on hardest difficulty.

I found it best to play 1-3 chapters per sitting. There are 22 chapters in total, with 8 hands each chapter after the first few tutorial-type chapters. There are also three difficulty levels that can be toggled on a per-chapter basis, with each chapter being replayable, so there is no need to create new profiles.

The base gameplay is similar to the usual solitaire titles on Steam, where you have a stock or draw deck each hand, and the objective is to basically clear the board of cards in sequential up and/or down chains, one card at a time. The card numbers range from 0-9 rather than your standard deck of cards, and there are 6 or 7 total suits.

Myha: Return to the Lost Island

Myha: Return to the Lost Island

This is a little gem of a game. The island scenery is so beautiful, it encourages you to just walk around and look before you start solving the puzzles. Which is exactly what I did and why my time to complete this game was so lengthy. Yet it was time well spent and I am saddened it is over. The puzzles were interesting and in many cases difficult. They require you to be very observant and piece together information from different parts of the island. It is so satisfying when you eventually solve a puzzle, which usually opens up another puzzle to address. Kudos to the developers for such a great game. And this is just an aside, did anyone else think the little train car in the playroom looked a lot like the car in Rhem. I thought I noticed Knut Mueller’s name in the credits.

As the last opus in the Black Cube Series, Myha is also the first in the series that has been completely developed in 3D, giving free reigns to the player to explore every corners of a beautiful island located on a planet in a far away solar system.

The fact that the game shares the first two letters of its name with the famous exploration puzzle game Myst is no coincidence. Gameplay and settings are very much alike. You find yourself stranded on an unknown island after encountering a mysterious back cube. And you start exploring following clues that will, hopefully, help you get back home.

Boinihi: The Ki Codex

Boinihi: The Ki Codex

This is a remarkable game. I’ve played other Black Cube games so was familiar with a part of the back lore. Boinihi took me a little while to embrace. At first, it felt slow and the interface is a bit awkward at times. I kept wandering in a circle. But, the art is interesting (Asian themes), the voice acting easy to listen to, and the music is a beautiful score by Yazorius. Finally, I effected a change and I became totally captivated. Time stood still for me as I worked through each challenge that was presented and it took me more hours than I like to admit to work through it all.

Another excellent addition to The Black Cube series! This time using a slightly different approach, a hybrid of first person and 3rd person views. A very intriguing story to follow as you discover the mysteries of Boinihi and The K’i Codex. The scifi world is full of beauty and atmosphere with an amazing soundtrack that compliments throughout. Unique cutscenes, fx, and animations help bring life to Boinihi as well as some excellent voice overs. It’s these little details that really help it stand out! And let’s not forget the excellent puzzles which are well integrated and have just the right touch of difficulty, but don’t expect an easy adventure. You will need to think and take notes in order to solve these enigmas. :) Overall, if you are a fan of The Black Cube series and scifi myst-like adventures then you are certainly in for a treat!

Catyph: The Kunci Experiment

Catyph: The Kunci Experiment

I really enjoyed this classic point-and-click game. Although it’s a sequel, I don’t think you need to have played ASA before this, although it certainly wouldn’t hurt. The storyline is very good, with a great deal of well-conceived background, and the game’s flow fits the story well. The puzzles fit nicely into the overall story; the majority are challenging, with some really tricky ones, which makes solving them particularly satisfying (although I did have to get help on occasions!). In-game help is available in easy mode and a walkthrough is now available, so there’s the option of that for people who want to play in the harder modes. The artwork is great and there are some very lovely mini movies, especially at the start and end of the game. As others have said, overall it’s very Myst-like, but to me that’s a real compliment.

Real player with 55.5 hrs in game

An amazing puzzle game with a complex storyline!

But first of all, Catyph is not a game for everyone. As a sequel to ASA: a space adventure, it is a classic Myst-like or Rhem-like in terms of gameplay, but it is way much more difficult.

Clues are not directly apparent and require some very good observation skills and intuition (you need to figure out if something you see is a clue or simply just part of the surrounding world). Puzzles are very diverse as in the previous opus ASA, but are more difficult. Curiosity and perseverance are a requirement. But even then, it will still be sometimes necessary to take a look into the walkthrough…
